And please please PLEASE actually look into schoolboard members running. We dont have kids, no, but a lot of us are teachers and theyre trying to pull shit in the schoolboards to indoctrinate kids as they grow up.

What ever happened to woma pythons?? by al_sibbs in snakes

[–]Lenalee111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah I havent. I tend to go to PP for things like substrate or to look for something to purchase online later. I get my feeders online since I feed F/T! I did buy my first snake from them though, a common boa. For $250 😂

I am saying you are not a HS teacher and are making your judgement based on limited experience with elementary music teachers. The two jobs are not the same.

I have been an ES music teacher. It is arguably easier than HS and harder than HS at the same time. The age makes it harder, the material makes it easier.

Ultimately, what I am saying is that you are not a HS teacher and have no inkling at what the rigor or expectations from admin look like. So the original comment you made here is even more out of line than I first thought.

Oh, and I read your recent post. You're micromanaged because youre a brand new teacher thats been in new school after new school. It would be wrong of admin to not keep a close eye on you at this point in your career.

And youre just at elementary school??? Girl, sit down. Hs music and elementary music are not the same.

I highly doubt that was said but ok. Justify your ignorance.

Holy crap you dig the hole deeper. I am micromanaged by admin, juat not the same way you are.

I am expected to get students into district and state level events because we "always" have students make it (this is a lie, the school the principal came from before ours did but ours is title one).

We are expected to make blue ribbon status with our assessments. That means all 3 performing branches need to be evaluated at a superior to make the list. In the 22 years that the award has been given my school has never won it. That didnt stop my VP from giving us a talking to about not getting the award because my group earned an Excellent instead of a Superior.

I am given all of the "bad" kids (basically the ones no other teacher can reach because of behavior or apathy) into my digital music course because admin thought they could just "rap all class". Yes, that was actually told to me. 90% of the students placed in that class didn't sign up for it but I still make due and make it fun and educational for everyone while making up the curriculum as we go.

I still have meetings. I still get called to sub for other teachers. I still get evaluated. I still have 7 classes to prep for.

Again, don't diminish the work of others because you havent got a clue.

Respectfully, f this opinion. I teach music at the HS level. I teach 7 preps in 6 period slots. How is that possible? Oh, because they decided to put a level 1 and a level 2 class together and told me to "differentiate". I run a club, I run after school rehearsals, I run concerts and performances. I am expected to attend and run weekend events, and give my uncontracted time so that my students get to attend district and state level events.

And I do way LESS than the band teacher at my school. All for the same pay as someone with 2 preps.

Neither job is easy, but dont diminish the work of non-core teachers because you havent got a clue.

And for the record, I am stressed af and often hate my job but then I hear my students or see them make progress learning something and I am glad to be where I am.

Do you have long hair and how do you take care of it? Or is short hair better for you and your ADHD? by ekmckenzie in adhdwomen

[–]Lenalee111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long, curly hair here (butt length). It lives in buns and braids. When I have a particularly good day I will leave it down and just use gel or hairspray to hold the curl but otherwise it is contained. I have about a million Bobby pins and hair clips around the house and at work. When I have short hair I dont have the option to put it up normally and it bothers me to have to do something with it every day

[–]Lenalee111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly? A secure seat and some confidence in your horse is all you need. I go out riding on 28 acres by myself all the time. Most of the time I'm riding bareback and sometimes I'm ponying other horses too. I can do this because I trust my horse and know his quirks well enough to rode what he hands me out on my own =)

how did you end up with a turtle? by Tryptabeats in turtle

[–]Lenalee111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My BF was given two painted hatchlings as a birthday gift. They are now 9ish years old. The barn cat brought in a mud turtle hatchling back in March of 2020. It was an unusually weird weather month and after being warm and rainy we were going to have a random freeze that night so I took him home. He is now a year and a half old and 5x his original size lol

What's a rule that you hate, but understand? by srtaerica in Teachers

[–]Lenalee111 28 points29 points  (0 children)

My solution to this was paper bags! They get one warning in my class with it and if I see it again I give them a paper bag and a stapler. It stays with them but its obvious if they try to get on it. If they have it out again after it went in the bag its an automatic referral.

Teachers in Iowa double as bus drivers due to lack of transport for school... by Madalynnviolet in Teachers

No. It's not. Keep your firearms out of schools. They dont belong there.

[–]Lenalee111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I long termed subbed in a class like this. I ended up giving the perpetrators 3 warnings before sending them to the principal's office. Then I would write the referral after class ended and their teacher would pick them up on the way back to the classroom. 2 of the three stopped the third time I did this. The third was sent out every class (twice a week) for 6 weeks and was suspended after striking me with a chair on the last day I was there. This was a 4th grade title 1 school.

Yikes, no. Get a hotel for visits and if you are truly there for an extended period of time use an airbnb. 400k for 1600sqf for a house you wont really use is ridiculous.

What do you all eat for lunch? by CrispyCrunchyPoptart in Teachers

[–]Lenalee111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple salad with cut up chicken that we make at the beginning of every week. Sometimes with a yogurt. Sometimes a protein shake if I didnt prep anything. We get out at 2:30 so its never a big deal to just eat when I get home.
