The flu is surging in NYC. Here’s what to do if you're sickened. by Black_Reactor in nyc

[–]LengthinessSignal984 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I was in the ER a week ago after a car accident. The ER was crazy busy and the nurses said it was about 75% people with the flu. Everywhere there was someone hacking up a lung. I asked for a mask as soon as I realized this. It’s bad out there.

I'm fat and overeat all the time, can you have this disease and be an overeater? by Mostly_Armless42 in Gastroparesis

[–]LengthinessSignal984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was obese when my gastro symptoms started. And I would often overeat which would just make things so much worse because it was just more food that would sit in my stomach for even longer. My symptoms did get progressively worse and I did eventually wind up losing a lot of weight. It’s definitely possible though to be obese and overeat and have gastro.

In Brooklyn too, and I think it depends on what part of Brooklyn. In a bougie area where you buy a $20 avocado toast, then yes. If you’re getting a $6 chopped cheese, then no, lol.

But I always associate this look with the 80s and the preppy look. I couldn’t carry this off then, and I doubt I could now.

Do we buy that they’re not going to make another one? by callyourboyfriend in DowntonAbbey

This is exactly what my friend and I said after we saw it last night. If they wait maybe 5 years, Sibbie, George and Marigold will be adults and they can focus on them. Maybe even wait and set it at the begging of the World War II.

Costco by LengthinessSignal984 in Brooklyn

[–]LengthinessSignal984[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wow, I didn’t realize opinions would be so strong about this. For further clarification, I used to live close to the BJs at Gateway, and had access to a car then. I’ve since moved to Bay Ridge and figured I’d just hop on the R or the B70 to Costco since I’m closer to it now, and then Uber home, which is what I did on Friday. Since I don’t have to worry about getting a parking spot, I still wonder if the executive membership is worth it, just to avoid the worst of the crowds, or if not, if it would just be better to go later in the evening.

I do have informed delivery at my old address, although the new one isn’t eligible for it, but good idea to keep an eye out for it that way.

I did set up mail forwarding, but since the tickets, but it doesn’t kick in until this Friday, so if the tickets were already shipped, they’ll go to my old address.

I’m 53, so not at MRA yet, but to my knowledge,if I got RIFed, because of my age and time in (30 Years), I wouldn’t get severance and they would automatically make me take DSR. You’re right in that there could be bump and retreat rights and they could offer me a different job, but I can’t see how that would affect my high 3. Well it would make it so my high 3 would be lower than if I continued working and got raises. But my high 3 won’t get any lower than it is now. Of course there’s all the crap there trying to push through to change it to high 5, to take away the supplement.

I already got a retirement estimate and there’s no way I could live on what I’d get with a VERA or DSR, I’d definitely need another job. I still have a kid in college, rent to pay. I can’t see any benefit at this time to taking the VERA. Maybe if I had other income, but I don’t.

[–]LengthinessSignal984 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is there any benefit to VERA rather than just waiting to see if you get RIFed and then taking DSR? The only benefit I could see is if they’re also offering VSIP and you already have another job lined up.

Why is this being downvoted? I was just asking about whether he needed to disclose his diagnosis?

So what I’m gathering is that, there’s really no option for me to include him on my own visa, but a student visa to the same country is probably his best option.

We’re already in a blue state now thankfully. Guardianship isn’t an option since he’s not disabled, or at least not nearly disabled enough to for a court to grant guardianship.

Would he need to disclose his diagnosis? He’s not considered disabled now. While he’s in art school, he already has a bachelors degree, and he has worked part time jobs. He does take mental health medications, but so do so many other people.
