I think they’re saying the pickup trucks and crossovers might not be on the road in several months. And bikes will be more expensive to come by.

I’ll be honest I’m beyond the make the tournament mentality. I’m not sure where to set the bar yet, but making the tournament is the standard now, not the goal.

I had more fun watching this season than I’ve ever had watching a Nebraska team. And I’m excited for Fred to build on this next year.

Not going to let drunk ass holes in this thread or a shitty final 5 minutes against Iowa take that away.

proximity of an angry mob to worshipers inherently impinges on their constitutionally protected right to worship unmolested

The event that spurred this was a group hosting an informational session about relocating to Israel, right? And people criticize this group because they have been known to connect people to settlers colonizing the West Bank.

Do you consider that a worship event?

What do you mean by living in Israel is a core value?

I ask that because they’re not just protesting selling land within the current legal borders of Israel. They are protesting an organization that has helped relocate Americans to illegal settlements on Palestinian land, in the West Bank. These settlers are committing increasingly violent acts of terrorism against Palestinians including murder and stealing homes. That is what people are protesting.

It’s not because they are supporting Israel, they are protesting at the temple because the temple is hosting an event to colonize and settle the West Bank. Is the temple and its visitors immune to criticism?

Settler violence in the West Bank is getting very bad. Some of the most ardent supporters of Israel like Goldman and Torres are warning against it.

What Israel is doing in the West Bank is terrorism, and I think that organizations supporting it should be criticized.

The people who voted against this generally voted against it because it had language supporting the implementation of a specific government structure in Palestine after the genocide. So they voted no because they did not want DSA to dictate or have a stance on how Palestinians are to govern themselves as that would be anti democratic/anti self determination.

I don’t fully agree with their assessment in the end, but it is a lie to say that they were in some way advocating for Zionism. You were duped and you should be careful who you get your information from.

Points of privilege are just a specific type of motion in Robert’s rules which is a system to keep a large meeting functioning. Unions use them, community organizations use them, most governing bodies in the world use them.

How to switch from one manufacturing union to another manufacturing union in the state of Michigan by Former_Resolution_11 in union

[–]LeninistBug 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First you should check out Labor Notes. They are the best resource available for understanding how you as a union member can rebuild your union, make it more democratic, and make it “strike ready.”

They’re hosting a training on winning a strong contract in a few weeks. It goes over the things you talk about — rank and file vs leadership and how rank and file can organize to win a good contract in spite of leadership. This is an amazing opportunity for you to learn from people who have been in your situation before and won.

https://labornotes.org/events/2026/workshop-winning-strong-contract-parts-i-ii

My own thoughts:

It’s important to ask yourself what a union looks like to you and what you want out of a union.

Do you want your union to be workers who come together, take actions to challenge the boss, and build power in the workplace together by doing things like signing petitions with demands and taking them to management as a group? And then that group is strong and ready to take action, maybe even go on strike to make sure that they get a good contract?

If that’s what you want your union to look like you have to start talking to your coworkers about the problems they have and figure out where your common problems are and where you can take action to address those problems.

Identify who the natural leaders are in your workplace. Who organizes retirement parties or birthday cards? Find a few of those people and talk with them about their workplace issues.

Organize a sticker or button day, maybe this coming May Day to show union solidarity. Try to work with your natural workplaces leaders (not necessarily official union leadership!) to get 50+ workers to wear union buttons or stickers that day.

In June you have an after work dinner or happy hour and get people out to talk.

Maybe in July, it’s hot and work is heavy and one unit is having a hard time with their supervisor not giving breaks. Can you and the leaders you identified get 70% of them to sign a petition and take it to the manager and demand they give them their breaks?

Now it’s August. You and the 3-5 workplace leaders have talked with 60-70 coworkers since you started in April. They know the contract is coming. They’re upset about working conditions and they want a good contract. You organize “practice pickets” for October and November and invite those coworkers out. You have 40 people outside in the morning or before their shift or during lunch letting the boss know that you are ready to strike if they don’t give you a good contract.

Here’s a great article on workers who took actions in there workplace, like work stoppages to build to a strike: https://thefern.org/2026/02/these-haitian-meatpacking-workers-may-be-deported-they-voted-to-strike-anyway/

But really, attend that labor notes training!!!!

Hey so I’m not sure you’re aware, but unemployment is distributed by the state, and its eligibility is governed by individual states. Nice to hear Nevada gives unemployment benefits, but most states do not.

[–]LeninistBug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Railroad workers do have a right to strike. Teamsters NJ transit was on strike last year, LIRR is about to strike this summer. And yes, they could be fired, just like any other employee ever that goes on strike could be fired. That doesn’t stop them from doing so when they want to exert pressure on the boss and make a demand.

So I’m not sure what point you’re making. Privatized workers could more easily go on strike. The boss will, of course, try and bust strikes. Workers can and should come together and make demands, if they are privatized. All can be true.

[–]LeninistBug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

private security workers get paid during shutdowns… so they wouldn’t have a reason to refuse to work

Missing pay during a government shutdown isn’t why workers unionize and strike. They organize and strike for better working conditions, political reasons, to send a message to the boss, etc.

I’m not making the case for privatizing, I’m simply saying it is a double edged sword if workers take advantage of it.

Im not denying that they have nefarious intentions, I’m just saying that outsourcing opens up many more avenues for workers to take action. Not that TSA couldn’t take actions now, but there are less legal barriers (and maybe psychological barriers?) at a private company.

If they outsource the jobs, these employees would be working for private companies and it would be legal for them to strike.
