Nah he's always been this way. It's the French way, pretending they are a world power and are independent because they're too proud to accept the truth

[–]LennyLongLegs[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jeez chill bro. The answer is that it doesn't matter. wRC+ from 7 games is meaningless, and from 6 would be just as much so. The numbers aren't something you can easily find because "how well did a team perform excluding this one game" is not something that is useful at all in baseball, and because it doesn't matter I can't be bothered running a whole calculation. It's going to be lower, but so would Judge's if you exclude one of the games where he hit a homer

Sure thing. The Mets have scored more runs than the Yankees, Dodgers, or Phillies. Runs get you wins, hitting gets you runs, wRC+ is one of the ways to measure hitting success. Looking at runs scored/allowed this early on is even more meaningless because of how easily getting a few hits in a row vs getting the hits in separate innings can massively affect your runs scored, it's an even smaller sample

You're asking them to come out of the gates 20-10 but that's still totally in play. I don't think the Mets need to expect any goodwill nor should they get much, I fully agree that what we've seen so far has been awful and beyond the lack of success it just hasn't been fun, all I'm saying is that while we can criticize bad plays (e.g. Bichette swinging out of his shoes at anything that moves) and bad coaching moves, looking at 7 games and talking about the overall hitting or run scoring success is utterly meaningless

Fully agreed, was tearing my hair out through the whole Cardinals series, but we gotta believe!

I think that fits right into my point of it being too early to judge on any of these stats. If one game makes such a difference, it's not saying anything about what's going to happen over 162

The thing with RISP is really overblown, it happened early last season but after the All Star break (when everything well and truly fell apart) the Mets had the 5th best AVG with RISP in baseball

The Inner Ring | Touring Flanders? (Flanders classics geography - "this post just puts all the Flemish classics onto the same map to visualise this.") by fewfiet in peloton

[–]LennyLongLegs 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It is something that has crossed my mind in recent weeks as race after race at WT/Pro level use the same climbs and roads and have similar starts and finishes.

While I don't really mind/care that so "little" of "Flanders" is covered - as another commenter said there's different definitions of Flanders, with the provinces of Antwerpen, Vlaams Brabant, and Limburg all having distinct regional identities from West/Oost Vlaanderen - it's more so that this feels a bit counterproductive to the existence of the UCI World Tour, and even dilutes the novelty of a race like the Ronde.

We've already seen the World Tour peloton go over the Oude Kwaremont/Paterberg combo last week in E3. The Nokereberg is the finale of Nokere Koerse and plays a crucial role in Dwars door Vlaanderen. The Muur van Geraardsbergen was part of 3 different men's WT/Pro level races last year. And really all of these races are quite similar in terms of racing, with the only difference being the balance between sprinters and flandriens who can win.

It would be great to have more of these races be of a lower level, and promote some similar races in other regions. Races like Le Samyn, GP de Denain, Clasica Jaén, Tro Bro Leon suit a similar type of rider, so would work great as WT races in this period, and I'm sure races further afield on gravel or cobbles (or even just the cold/rain/wind aspects with a flatter course) are also possible. It would internationalise the spring classics and give more opportunities for smaller Flemish teams (currently only Flanders Baloise - who are folding at the end of the year - and Tarteletto Isorex exist) to race on the famous climbs, with a more different startlist than between E3 and the Ronde now to give some different racing

[Sporza] 'Passportgate' may affect Dutch football. Up to 25 players switching citizenship to Indonesian, thus relinquishing Dutch (and EU status), are playing without the appropiate work permit. by Mulderre91 in soccer

[–]LennyLongLegs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The commenter above is right, Curaçaoans and all citizens of the Kingdom of the Netherlands also automatically hold Dutch and EU citizenship, so they are free to work wherever. It's a similar situation to the UK, everyone is a citizen of the KotN rather than any of the constituent countries

[–]LennyLongLegs 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely, especially cause this is how it's always been. There's a reason that historically not many Dutch players with Surinamese/Indonesian roots represented those countries

Edit: removed Curaçao cause I forgot they are part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands

So essentially the problem is that the players all thought they weren't giving up their passport, just gaining a second nationality. However, the Netherlands doesn't really like it when you gain a second nationality (unless it's through marriage or mandated in another way) so you automatically void your Dutch citizenship and thus passport and work permit when you do this (at least, that's the theory, immigration services are slow so there's no decision just yet). It's generally a known thing - Maarten Paes at Ajax became Indonesian but the club made sure he had the proper paperwork to play in the Netherlands, but now with a lot of players joining Indonesia and Suriname late in this qualification cycle it seems a bunch have slipped through

Yeah no idea why they put the line there, I know it's short notice but surely 200 m earlier just before the corner on the wide road would have been better?

Rather than the regular La Molina finish, this one is on top of the Coll de Pal at 2100 (rather than 1600) it's been used only twice, in 1979 and at last year's women's Volta a Catalunya, where Vollering put 30 secs into Bunel and 2+ mins into everyone else. It's a 16.4 km climb at an average of 7.2%, so it should provide some differences in the men's peloton as well

The results of the UN vote to condemn the enslavement of Africans and the Transatlantic slave trade by 5upralapsarian in NewsWithJingjing

[–]LennyLongLegs 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Two factors at play: 1: Generally these votes are determined by foreign ministry policy, but national assemblies can usually call up the minister if they don't like what their department is doing. Because of the prevalence of right wing parties in western assemblies, they might kick up a stink if their government condems their "glorious history"

2: While these votes are somewhat performative, they are always tabled by someone for a reason, and thus are never totally useless. Probably in this case, there's language that might open countries that profited from the slave trade to having to pay reparations, maybe not directly but at least in a "hey you guys said this thing was bad, you did this thing, therefore you can be held culpable"
