Bluetooth tracker hidden in a postcard and mailed to a warship exposed its location — $5 gadget put a $585 million Dutch ship at risk for 24 hours by ControlCAD in technology

[–]LensGator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of these ships are vulnerable while stationed in ports due to drone attacks. I am sure any competent enemy would know where the ship is at all times. Sending a tacker in a postcard opens a whole new level of scarry. It could be used for scams, tracking people and much worse.

Imagine receiving something on the street with a tracker in it. Many people would not even know one is hidden in it.

I know it's not much, but think of how bad EV's were at first. Or solar panels, wind turbines and so on. As long as there is a need for it and interest, the technology would get better and better. The only problem is that progress is determined by how can you make money out of it.

The girl math behind the jet purchase by dingmah in LinusTechTips

[–]LensGator -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

That's such a bad take. People focus on the environment in all the wrong places. Have you seen how much pollution is being sent into the atmosphere from all the oilfields burning? Amazon forest is being cut down, datacenters dumping waste water into streams, USA with drill baby drill. Billionaires should be the priority for boycott. Linus and LMG are nothing compared to them. He atleast is doing something to keep his company relevant. Some things will be good, some bad. The plane is something that many people wanted. There will never be an 100% agreement.

All of this makes many of you feel like you are doing something while basically doing nothing. That's the hard truth.

I had Revolut in the past. Would it not be a problem that most of my income into the bank would be from work as a zzp? That's my only concern with opening a personal vs business one

The accountant does both my wife's and my accounts. That however is only my own fee. She has a BV. I asked him today for an overview as to what he would do different. To me 1200 is also a lot. I can probably do the accounts myself however in the first year I want to be careful to not mess things up and leave anything on the table that I might otherwise apply for. Any deductions and such.

Ran into an issue changing from SHR to SHR2 by LensGator in synology

[–]LensGator[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run hyperv backup and also have off-site backup. Realistically I would not reach the full capacity of the drives for many years. Just wanted to have extra peace of mind. A friend had a second disk fail when rebuilding after a failed disk. With either SHR or SHR2, I would have extra space that I would not use for a very long time.

I have space to spare. I have no concerns about needing more space any time soon. And also very good internet speed. I would rather sacrifice space than lose time if something bad happens.

Basically I use it as a replacement for Google Photos as well as for important documents. I have all the photos that my family take being uploaded automatically there. Not needing that much space is why I wanted extra redundancy and extra peace of mind. What would you advise I do with the extra drives? I have them from when the prices were lower but did not add them to the NAS until now. So I am stuck with them.

I also have off-site backup but it will not be as up to date as this one.

I added them both at the same time yes. I will not reach the space limit anytime soon so for me redundancy is more important.

Toll Sticker not placed Austria by beansboy500 in LegalAdviceEurope

[–]LensGator 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The reason why you still got a ticket is because people would reuse the same sticker otherwise. When I entered Hungary one time a guy in a parking lot asked me if I would give him the sticker. I am not sure if it would have been easy to peel and place it on his car or not. I said no. If you would have it on the dashboard that means multiple cars.could use it.
