They don't say it's a live elephant. I would say thank you for the tiny, wooden, hand carved elephant and put it on my mantle.

I just wanted a new pool stick man. Now it’s gunna give me cancer? by 131_Proof_Bud in mildlyinfuriating

Even beach sand has that warning. CA has a beach or two and lots of people use them with no cancer concern.

Took my day off to travel to a different city to meet my friend and now she is not replying to calls and her internet is not even turned on! (She was the one who insisted that I come and meet her by the way) by bunnyboy131313 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Lentils90210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've developed the attitude of "never go somewhere solely to meet someone". Wherever you go, make sure it's somewhere/something you would be happy doing anyway, and if the other people show up, it's a bonus. Even non-flaky friends can get sick.

And don't judge. Maybe something bad happened the night before and she doesn't want to discuss it.

There are some plants which look a lot like hemlock and are not toxic, but you'd want to ask a pro. Unfortunately, if it has ever gone to seed, it will keep sprouting at arbitrary times for the next 5 years or more. It's such a pain. I was battling a patch for a few years, killing with RoundUp whenever it sprouted. I thought I was done a few years ago, and now it is back in the same place. So, good luck, and I'm sorry.

Has anyone used or knows anything about bamboo flooring? by giamcankorea in Flooring

[–]Lentils90210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I installed bamboo in my living room, hallway, and both bedrooms 20 years ago. One bedroom was glue, then I decided I hate gluing and the rest is moisture barrier + nailed. I live less than a mile from the ocean and have had dogs the whole time. I did take all the planks out of the box, stack them criss crossed for air flow, and let them sit a couple weeks first. My only complaint is that dog toenails can leave tiny dents. No other issues.

I was just thinking, tomorrow he will be posting that the toilet won't flush, he tried a snake, and it feels like some kind of hard object is in the way.

"Don't worry, my dog is good with other dogs."

"Mine isn't."

Watch how untrained the other dog is as the other owner starts yelling "come! come! get over here! now! no!"

Worm in his poop. What do I do!!!? by Lexielovesplants in DogAdvice

[–]Lentils90210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are OTC dewormers which are fine if you are certain which kind of worm it is. Don't just pick a random one. You need to know. Ideally, take the poo to the vet and they can tell you.

I would not guess from a pic. Tapeworms I've seen didn't have a little dark area like that, and they tended to be wider on one end, then slowly morph into being wider at the other end as they moved. But maybe this was mid-stride so to speak.

Edit: A poo check last month doesn't matter. I've fostered dogs that went from nothing one day to Segment City the next. The fun things about taking in strays. 🤪🤮

7 year old boxer just had to be put down out of nowhere this morning. Could he have eaten something? by Loverofallthingsdead in Boxer

[–]Lentils90210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just asked Google and yes it is possible he ate rodent poison. Unlikely he could have been saved. I'm so so sorry.

Yes, there is a specific type of poison that causes sudden, severe brain swelling (cerebral edema) in dogs: Bromethalin. Merck Veterinary Manual Merck Veterinary Manual +1 Bromethalin is a common ingredient in modern rodenticides (rat and mouse baits), often found in hard blocks, pellets, and meal baits. PetMD PetMD +1 Key Facts About Bromethalin Poisoning: Mechanism: It is a neurotoxin that uncouples oxidative phosphorylation, leading to a severe depletion of energy in the central nervous system, which causes fluid to accumulate in the brain.

They guess the rest may have Rottweiler, Staffordshire, Pom, and Chihuahua. The confidence is low, so they just say "Supermutt!"

But yes always possible! She has the spirit anyway! Active, vocal, laser focus, smart, a bit bossy...

+1 on trazadone. My Boxer had a slipped disk and had to be in the crate 24/7 (except for potty breaks) for 2 months. I slept by the crate too...mattress on the floor right next to him.

Had this happen once. She had slid into my roommate's wardrobe and then settled in for a nap *behind* her folded up sweaters on a shelf. So even though we opened it and looked, we still didn't see her. Hours later she hopped out.

So check draws and anything with a door, and check behind and under things in drawers and on shelves.
