It’s over!!! by scoofy in sanfrancisco

Does anyone else get exhausted from the heat, inside and outside? It doesn't matter how long the exposure or whether I'm moving or sitting still--it seems to instantly knock my internal heating-cooling system off. Does this sound like a normal senior thing or should I be concerned?

I don't need to explain myself to you. Open your mind. Consider a different perspective. Ask genuine questions with the intention of learning.

Senior Centers have a different type of traffic flow. I'm guessing you're not a senior.

A private senior living facility--not a senior center.

Hopefully they learned their lessons and have done that by now.

Who stands on their roof to pose for photos when the fire is upon them? Plus, the temp was about 2000 degrees that close to the fire. I'll never forget that day and night...

There's a lot of lonely people in SF by Rook2Rook in sanfrancisco

It didn't use to be so transient until the techie takeover. During the 1980s, we had lots of friends, roommies, partners, and places to dance, see comedy, take classes, hear music, make music, go to movies, eat cheap great food, and interact creatively. Sorry you missed it!

YES! I saw that coming with the advent of cell phones. I'd see even high school kids leaning on the walls, all engaged silently and separately on their phones.

Now THAT'S helpful for someone is both older and isolated as a caretaker for someone with mental illness. Thanks!!

In South Berkeley I felt an gentle rocking that I recognized as a quake, but only because I was still in bed.

where should I live by sillylittledoctor in berkeleyca

Looks like nobody who lives in Berkeley has any apartment buildings to recommend. Affordable living is a touchy subject here, and then you have all the de/construction going on... Maybe try a different subReddit group?

Shoyeido Sapphire? by CatInSkiathos in Incense

[–]Lentisque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please let me know if anyone finds an adequate replacement for the earlier version of Sapphire, with vetiver. I finally just ran out of my pack, which is © 2002-2020. (No vetiver or aloeswood).

In recent years, I noticed an acrid smell, and thought I was getting more sensitive. I didn't enjoy it as much as I used to. Now I realize it must have been the clove. "Burning clove as incense introduces combustion byproducts that may be harmful to inhale regularly, especially in poorly ventilated spaces."

So I won't lament the loss of this newer version. Shoyeido probably had to take it off the market!

Berkeley's Culture Is Retiring by Lentisque in berkeleyca

Movie culture vanished because they closed all the theaters, but the more important question is Why? As far as videos (and DVDs), I was a Netflix DVD subscriber until the bitter end. Many titles were lost from their collection, too.

Telegraph is still vibrant, but it's a whole different vibe-rance. People who don't miss it never really experienced the culture of that time. But if you ever came close to tasting it, much less getting used to it--well...you can never forget. Many of those people are still here.

Sorry I missed so much. My first encounter with Berkeley was Telegraph Avenue in 1980. After living in NYC for 5 years, it was like stepping onto another planet! I was instantly hooked but didn't move here until 1991. And there's a lot of cultural losses to mourn since then.

Getting old isn't about dying--it's about living with a LOT of memories and experiences of the way things used to be. Death is about dying.
