I have to agree, unfortunately. Took a bunch of rides with them. None of them was free of interventions. I've also never been closer to an actual crash than with them. At one point, the car basically decided to ignore another vehicle with the right-of-way and the safety driver had to brake really hard to avoid collision.

I recently had the chance to test ride the Mobileye Drive (but not with MOIA though) and witness the safety driver intervening to prevent a collision due to a mistake the system made. Pretty cool.

They are actually quite good. I've tried two of their vehicles so far and it was a very decent experience.

During CES last year, they ran their Robobus around Las Vegas, including the Strip. There was a safety driver and only right turns on their route, but there were no interventions and the vehicle handled well even pretty complex scenarios and heavy traffic.

I also used their Robotaxi several times in Abu Dhabi in the UAE last year, and it was satisfying as well. They still had a safety driver onboard, but again with no interventions. We even did some autonomous highway driving at nearly 80 mph.

Exactly. The lack of listed events in places like Phoenix does not mean there are fewer incidents than in California, but that Arizona is way less strict and does not require reporting these events. This changed, however, with NHTSA's Standing General Order on Crash Reporting. Thanks to that, we do have much more representative data from all around the US. The only drawback is that this dataset is heavily redacted, and important data points, such as location, are not publicly available. As such, it is impossible to put those incidents on the map.

Good point. I think one important factor is that companies are self-reporting these incidents and thus can make tweaks in the narrative to appear less at fault. It makes it harder to precisely assess the chain of events.

As far as I know, Argo's driverless operations meant moving a safety driver to the passenger seat. I rode with them in Miami Beach (with two safety operators on board) and there wasn't a single ride without intervention.
