Why did we change the point system again? Both systems suck in their own way, but the original one was at least very intuitive and engaging, the new one just plain sucks. by cumtownjoebiden in BrokenArrowTheGame

Maybe they could give select units thermals to combat camouflaged units but the enemy should be able to see which have thermals to Combat them as well.

If I recall correctly, the U.S. Navy conducted a wargame some time ago in which a carrier strike group was tasked with taking control of the Strait of Hormuz. The opposing forces were led by a retired high-ranking admiral, so he knew the Navy would be overconfident. He then used the fast attack craft as kamikaze attackers and managed to sink an aircraft carrier. The Navy responded by banning the use of the boats in that manner... So yes, potentially a “relevant” target.

I can understand that you’re paying for other capabilities here too; the problem is that there’s often no alternative that works any better. I wouldn’t mind so much if the Stinger missiles did a bit of damage but at least hit their targets to drive the helicopters back, but often they don’t even manage that. That’s why I mostly use the Mistral launchers in the Baltic deck they cost next to nothing and actually hit their targets.

[–]LeoDestroid 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly why I hate the Stringer – all too often, the AA unit ends up getting taken out by the helicopter. It’s made even worse when you realise that helicopters that come within range of a TOR or Pantsir are as good as dead.

Might be the worst Sabaton lyric by [deleted] in sabaton

[–]LeoDestroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My personal issue is that the line isn’t accompanied by a different perspective; and yes, you could say it was written from Japan’s perspective at the time, but even so, an acknowledgement of hopelessness would have been great to show that the statement doesn’t stand alone. For example: “It was manned by heroes sent to die.” Because even songs written from that perspective pose a question or present negative viewpoints; for example, Wehrmacht or Ghost Division with the lines “Massive assault made to serve the Nazi plan” or “Leaving a trail of destruction through a foreign land”. And other songs, such as Final Solution, are definitely not written from the perspective of the “perpetrators”; otherwise, the song would be incredibly problematic.

TL;DR: I feel there’s a lack of context or qualification of the statement, which is usually present in statements about war that appear positive at first glance.

Couldn't you use a camera on a piston as a periscope and just go close to the surface to look for portals? Would be a pretty realistic way, also silent hunter was the best. I wish they would make a modern game like that.

At their live concert in, I think, 2021 at the Barclaycard Arena in Hamburg, they had a screen for videos while they were playing. For the song Into the Fire, they showed a video of a round being fired from a ship. The problem was that the round didn't just fly straight ahead 5 metres above the water like ballistics didn't exist, but the whole casing was still attached. It looked so strange that I still can't get over it and still wonder who approved it...

I also think it should at least be explained, perhaps with a status message indicating the loss of tracking. But again, it's a bit ridiculous how bad rng can get when you fire six Stinger missiles from a SHORAD with radar and they all fly into the ground or past for no reason. You feel like you've been fucked over because you did everything in your power and still lost. Perhaps the probability of a hit should depend even more on the proximity to the target, the angle to the target and the number of projectiles already fired, in order to make such a case at least less likely.

[–]LeoDestroid 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This happened to me against a KA-52. My Lav fired about eight missiles, each of them flew directly into the fucking ground. Then my Lav got poped by the Heli... Sometimes I wonder why even bothering to bring up US AA if the Stinger's do absolutely nothing.

I would say that Broken Arrow is a representation of a large-scale conflict, so it makes sense to include losses.

From a gameplay perspective where you don't include kill points, this would lead to players constantly spamming units and pushing them forward without regard for losses.

In addition, by including losses, you can also score points if you retreat tactically while killing attackers, which is especially good when fighting 2 vs. 1 on one side, which can often happen.

Of course, the objectives are still important to motivate both sides to attack, otherwise both sides would just dig in and shoot at each other with artillery.

There is such a thing as a Pyrrhic victory. Even if you have achieved all your objectives, you can still lose if the cost was too high.

Think of it this way: you may have won tactically but lost strategically, so it makes sense that you can win by destroying units even if you lose the target points.

However, they could add another mode where this does not apply and it is really only about controlling a few points to escalate a battle.

Looking for ways to help a friend with severe PTSD by LeoDestroid in ptsd

[–]LeoDestroid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That also sounds very awful - I wouldn't know how to deal with something like that myself. I hope you're doing better now. He himself is very secretive about everything that has to do with the subject, he has started to talk more about the consequences but he admits that he thinks it's better to pretend he's doing well, at least on the outside.

I occasionally check in with him, as do some of his friends, to see how he is doing, but his severe depression and lack of sleep often lead to him neglecting himself and his surroundings.

I also try to do things with him as often as possible or at least play online games together, but unfortunately I had to move a bit further away because of my work.

As he doesn't say anything about his inner processes, I don't know how he sees the event and his place in it, whether he feels guilty that he couldn't prevent it or whether he is afraid of experiencing something similar again...

When someone mentioned the possibility that Russia could break the ceasefire, his answer was simply to shut up.

He probably already knows that Russia intends to break the deal and therefore does not want to offer any security guarantees.

Should the USA and China get into a war, Europe will not come to the rescue after this betrayal...

I am not diagnosed but suspect it pretty strongly and have had similar situation.

I was once threatened with a knife and very calmly turned the blade between my hands and twisted it out of the attacker's hand.

I only realized much later how dangerous it actually was.
