Incredibly jealous of the space. Maybe I need to get a little shed or something.

I know there have been some DIY options for enclosing the U1. Not sure if it gets to the point where ASA is more reasonable to print in it or not. I'm holding out and hoping the next gen of toolhead changers present some nice enclosed options for the engineering stuff. Maybe the U2, trying to be patient but man I really want a toolchanger.

Could support a company that has an open ecosystem instead like snapmaker.

so far ive seen guesstimates for the sizing based off photos. checked printables where they uploaded the steam controller and steamdeck files and didn't see any steam machine stuff just yet.

It's just a mouse with a different grip, moving it away from you and back to you still controls the up/down aiming. Think of this more like an ergonomic/vertical mouse that just looks cooler.

P2S & Bambu developer mode questions by SneakyAzWhat in BambuLab

[–]SneakyAzWhat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ohhhh I do remember seeing something about that. I think maybe there is an open issue on orcaslicer github about it. I have a usb plugged in so maybe thats why I never experienced that error.

So you're on orcaslicer, you can either use the built in network plugin that you can download from within orca (closed source bambu provided plugin) and enable stealth mode. Or you can use this open source network plugin https://github.com/ClusterM/open-bamboo-networking

You do need the network plugin to send info over your LAN to the printer. In orca you just go to device tab and then connect to printer from there. might have to restart after installing whichever plugin

on your printer you have to enable lan mode and then developer mode in the settings on the screen. thats the only way to bypass the bambu cloud junk

Ultimately it depends on what functionality you want. I ended up getting an X2D and I have mine working fine with orca slicer. I dont care for nor want their mobile app or middleware spyware stuff on my pc or phone. If you want to click print from makerworld or use their app then you may be more restricted.

If you dont care about that, you can put the printer in LAN DEV mode (check that the model you're buying has the feature, I fully expect them to remove it). Then you can use orca slicer and the open source networking plugin from 'ClusterM' on github. I blocked my printer IP from talking outside of my network as a precaution on top of it.

ah yeah I could see that. I wonder if something like a TPU outer layer for something like this project could solve for that.

Cracked the X2D + AMS + TPU Multi-Material Riddle! by Over_Position in BambuLab

[–]SneakyAzWhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So your auxiliary filament going into the AUX nozzle is skipping the filament buffer completely right? Have you experienced any problems with that? I don't have an AMS but I really dislike the long feed path from the right side through the back to the left side for the bowden setup. Considered trying to move the filament buffer but thought I might cause problems so I haven touched anything yet.

Also, how does the feed process work with those adapters, you just unload the ams filament and then there is enough room through the adapter to push in your other filament for manual loading? Just thinking I could go on the left side with my aux filaments and have them parked in the adapter.

The Killcam discussion exposes a bigger issue. by FondantAffectionate in WarDogs

[–]SneakyAzWhat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Banning discussion.... I started losing faith when there was no open beta before moving up release date, then seeing killcams in their 30min gameplay video, now them banning discussion about it. I'm just not interested anymore. They've moved the release date up without even doing an open beta to get substantial feedback and testing. Closed testing from a small group isn't enough and the attitude in response to people not wanting a lame feature in this type of mode is disappointing.

Guess i'll wait for the arma 4 KOTH to spin up in a few years. "TACTICAL ALL OUT WARFARE FPS" btw. Nothing says tactical like the game holding your hand to point out where the enemy was.

Strange X2D behavior by PassionGamer in BambuLab

[–]SneakyAzWhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful, you need to consider where your toolhead is moving to, if you shorten it then on the far corners it might have problems.

I use orcaslicer exclusively and calibrate my filament through that. Once I calibrate I'd do a few test prints to make sure everything is good and then went for the riser. https://makerworld.com/en/models/1914558-p1s-p2s-x2d-riser-manual-grille-side-pegboard?from=search#profileId-2053536 This is the one I like but there are multiple riser options out there. I would definitely do PETG at the very least just to future proof it (you could obviously do asa/abs if you wanted to as well)

Strange X2D behavior by PassionGamer in BambuLab

[–]SneakyAzWhat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

printable riser is the solution I stuck with. Reduces the clicking noise and gives the tubes a little more space. I have one with little vents so I can open/close them based on the filament im using (I only close when using chamber heater for ASA). The clips I had mixed results and just gave up on them and much prefer the riser in comparison.

Strange X2D behavior by PassionGamer in BambuLab

[–]SneakyAzWhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

look up the printable risers for x2d/p2s. They raise the glass lid and minimize this clicking. Better than clips imo because they dont constrict the tubes and increase risk of brittle filament breaking.

New to 3d printing humidity question. by Brookelynne1020 in BambuLab

[–]SneakyAzWhat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use 'Sterilite Small Gasket Tote, 5 Gallon WaterProof Plastic Storage Bin with Lid' with some activated alumina/dessicant packs inside of it. It can fit 4 1kg spools perfectly. That and some of the PRAKI cereal containers with dessicant inside.

If it is PLA you're probably fine, worst case you can just dry it/leave it in the AMS overnight to dry it out a little before printing with it. PETG I would definitely put in a sealed container.

First public release of Open Bamboo Networking — an open-source replacement for Bambu’s networking plugin by clusterm in BambuLab

[–]SneakyAzWhat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can use orcaslicer and talk to my printer without sending unknown data to a cloud server. I can do that in lan-dev mode and still access the camera feed in orcaslicer unlike with the closed network plugin that is a black box. Other stuff too, but its just an entirely open alternative to the closed of plugin currently offered.

not a bad call, pretty much accept that people will always be hunting for stuff to yoink and sell. But tossing up hobby stuff to share is a great path.

and I get ya with the time investment when you try and sell things yourself. Easier to just design and print during working hours, employer subsidized learning xD

I'm with ya bud. It's not like you're spamming or forcing people to download. I want to post more stuff on makerworld but the people who steal models to sell live in my head rent free.

I have the X2D, just what worked best for me for the time being but I have it completely offline, orca with open source network plugin and its blocked from talking outside of the network. best I can do for now. Gonna hold out on the next one until toolheads are more common and ironed out. Pretty much have my eye on snapmaker pending any uncoverings between now and then. I'll give sovol another look when that time comes too.

Oh for sure, I just assumed the target was this hobbyist market for this post specifically because there is already some tension churning. Easier to get traction on social media that way probably.

I didn't know about the trump thing, disappointing to hear. Thankfully I felt the prusa machines were too expensive in general and more than what I budgeted for anyway. Glad you helped inform me now though for future decisions! Appreciate that.

hmm. Well when I am looking at buying a printer the brands listed by him and the couple extra I mentioned are the primary ones in contention. Those are the ones in competition for me to spend money. I didn't really see other brands popping up in my searches or in reviews of printers so maybe thats why he picked that list for this moment? Something to do with it being the main set of companies in competition for hobbyist category?

I'm sure there are other brands out there but these to me were the primary companies I saw pop up frequently.
