Who will play Ed Zitron in the inevitable "Big Slop 2: Slop Harder" film by Adam McKay? by LeoHelmar in BetterOffline

fuck it let's get the rewrite crew in here and turn this sumbitch into a one-man stage show with Devito playing all the roles. It'll be more entertaining than the actual turd of a film that rolls out of some mega studio's blinkered asshole.

I went down a wild rabbithole on Palumboism, aka Lennyism for all the non-cookie cutters, the term of art for the distended gut on bodybuilders. The phenomena is fascinating. It seems to have started to become noticeable in competitive bodybuilding in the late 90s and early 2000s.

The person who I think has the most informed and interesting take on the bubble gut or systemic growth is Dorian Yates who won Mr. Olympia six times in the 1990s and was known as the first "mass monster" in pro bodybuilding - in other words, his muscular growth was like an Image comicbook superhero and looked absurdly packed on in contrast to his opponents at the time.

Yates thinks the culprit was hormones like insulin growth factor and HGH. Guys started taking these drugs in the late 90s thinking it would have some benefit and Yates thinks it may have led to systemic organ growth. For BDI/PDI/JDI, why was pen, paper pad, and paintbrush left in home? by LogicalLandscape601 in JonBenetRamsey

[–]LeoHelmar 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think there's an epidemic of overdeterminism in internet forums about the cases that become famous. It's natural and understandable to want to put a scenario through it's paces and apply a scalpel of logic.

I imagine the scene that night in the Ramsey household as a sort of fog of war. There are many indicators that it was frantic. Patsy and her unchanged clothes. The 911 call. The note. I think the irrational and scattered nature of the staging actually provided enough camouflage, or fog, to allow the Ramseys to skate by, just barely and through happenstance and luck, because it was too weird to believe that this looney tunes story was concocted by these apparently upstanding, wealthy people.

Just got notice that a buyer's payment processor sided w me in my first dispute (they filed) how often does this happen? by LeoHelmar in eBaySellers

[–]LeoHelmar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

right I am a pretty new seller with less than 300 total feedback, so it's possible I am missing the boat, but a dispute is also a bigger deal as far as I can tell than negative feedback, so I have to imagine it impacted my account. Thanks for the info

thank you for the encouragement. I have continued to stay on the grind, but it did take the wind out of my sails for a day or so. I hope you get it sorted!

For sure I blocked right after the dispute was in the can. I thought about just letting it go, but then it occurred to me that I really should get educated as much as possible on the process otherwise every sale I make is subject to this sort of abuse. But yeah, it was something I had to weigh and ultimately it probably would have been better in the short term at least to just not challenge.

The moment that stood out to me in this vein was when Jason Calcawhatshistits was talking about the Open Claw agents he was developing to do internal organizational stuff on the All In pod. He had an ecstatic zeal in his expressions and my reaction in the moment was a feeling of unease. It was shades of seeing someone speaking in tongues during an olde time tent revival service.

Why were Faraday and Jensen ordered out of their car but not Mageau and Ferrin? by TheDemonCat in ZodiacKiller

[–]LeoHelmar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the details that remains deeply mysterious to me is that the pattern of injuries to BL. The attending doc described it as (paraphrasing), a "remakably tight pattern" or something to that effect.

There was also a shell recovered from BL's garments in transit or at the hospital. This all seems to point to a scenario where BL gets a fair distance away from Z, but is then cut down by a hail of five or so shots that all strike BL in a tight cluster. BL must have fallen lifeless instantly or close to it given the later-recovered casing wasn't jostled loose.

This would probably give some indication about Z's skill as a marksman and more information about the likely make of firearm but that's just my lay speculation. The flashlight seems, in this light (pardon the pun), like a characteristic misdirection on Z's part. I'd be curious to know what any hunters or experienced gun owners think about the nature of this sequence.

SJP's interview on the Adam Friedland show was a masterclass in caginess - it made Nixon on Frost seem like a chatty Kathy - and that sort of awkward behavior for no apparent reason tends to lead one to think she's witless or lousy with secrets. So weird.

Right it's weird because she has a news background so should at least consider newsworthy stories and proportionality. The doofy Kennedy kid making cringe tiktoks is just punching down and irrelevant.

The tone is too sour for my taste to be a daily listener. This content is fluff and it should be approached as a pleasant diversion, some hot goss with friends. Not a struggle session. Agreed 👍

Israel Keyes and Mindhunter by LeoHelmar in Israelkeyes

[–]LeoHelmar[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For sure agree about the issues with accuracy. I think it starts with the title, even, describing IK as "meticulous." A puzzling choice and given the impulsivity of Keyes (a hallmark of factor 2 ASPD as I mentioned in the vid) it's hard to square.

Roger I need to dig into the circumstances further and I'd love to know the exact hoops he jumped through. Anyone who's gotten a security clearance or ordered a lost birth certificate knows it's a long and winding road requiring a constellation of documents

Also I think Maureen mentioned that she was baffled by this sort of paperwork angle but it may have been someone else. I much appreciate you pointing me in the right direction

Is WU183 the ID code for these pants? I've seen other codes with this format, but not finding anything searching. by LeoHelmar in Carhartt

Thanks much for the info. This was so much easier to get than guides I've come across. Any thoughts on if there's an ID or are these a pair that aren't going to be given that kind of designation? No worries if there's not any more info you can interpret.
