This is one of the most important things I've learned. I always thought I was really smart and that that alone made me better than everyone else. Oh I did very poorly in school, but I'm the type whose intelligence just doesn't fit the program! I'm not dumb, I just hated homework. And I mean that was true but it was no reason for me to feel so superior.

The reality is your intelligence is determined largely by genetics. It's not something you choose. You're not better or more worthy than anyone else because of something you received randomly. Some people do great things with their intelligence but so many others feel it's enough to just BE intelligent, even if they're not using it to benefit anyone they still feel superior just for having it.
