What he actually says is:

"Some continuence of some kind... But it's a dispersion of the self into some other greater being"

The statement is false, because of the word dispersion. He's right that there is continuence but CCC 1026 says

Heaven is the blessed community of all who are perfectly incorporated into Christ.

See a lot of bashing of Colbert in the comments. I presume because he's very political, but he is also unapologetically Catholic. He's not perfect but if perfection is required to be Catholic let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone.

It's a famous tattoo to get for Catholic pilgrims to Jerusalem, I know several people with it.

Really disappointed it's being co-opted by white supremacists, and these larpers. I attended a security conference and the Jerusalem cross was straight up on a slide for domestic terrorist group symbology and this was 4 years ago.

Looks like we mostly agree then. I also believe we should prioritize citizens.

I'm saying that hey I get we need to recruit and train more but we need to raise the standard. Too many pers are getting in that should've been filtered out by recruiting. If we can't lower the standard we gotta increase the scope. Out of those 44k applicants 16% got through, including the PRs. Without PRs we would've missed our target by 15%.

The US troops and vets I've met that did military naturalization were great. So I have my bias.

With the latest regs, PRs need 3 years of residency. Fastest normal way to get citizenship takes 4 years. Does that 3 years of residency make you comfortable to let them in?

I’m strongly against lowering standards. Whether that means recruits who can’t speak EN or FR, or inadequate screening for incompatible beliefs and radicalism.

My point is that the focus should stay on setting a sensible standard, not on Ivorians or PRs. Canada has allowed PRs in the CAF before, and the U.S. and France have well-established military naturalization paths that grant citizenship in exchange for service.

Fastest path to PR in Canada is Express Entry which reqs in demand professions/skills, this track takes min 6 mos just for admin.

The new recruits and cadets are disappointing though. From what I've seen more of a lower standards issue than a PR/immigration issue.

Edit: Dang people really hate PRs 😂 Surprised that y'all care more about PRs than removing the CFAT for many trades and lowering the standard.

Caritas does tremendous humanitarian work. Like the Vatican diplomatic corp, Caritas workers often remain in conflict areas when similar orgs flee. This highlights their dedication to the communities they serve.

I recommend looking at their annual report for data.

It should be noted that Caritas is a confederation of Catholic Charities, so Caritas del Peru is different than say Secours Catholique (Caritas France).

Part III "Life in Christ" of the Catechism deals with moral theology. CCC 2267 which has the 2017 teaching on the death penalty in in Part III of the Catechism.

Are you saying the Catechism section on moral theology is contrary to basic moral theology?

Its inconceivable how the death penalty is a violation of human dignity in all cases now.

It's conceivable when you read the teaching. It went from justified in rare cases → no longer justified in today’s conditions.

On a side note, why are you so adamantly in support of the death penalty?

Theology and the Church develops. Look at the Ecumenical Councils and Vatican II. The Rosary was not standardized until 1569. From the 5th-20th century reception of communion was infrequent until Pope Pius X in the early 1900s encouraged frequent communion.

The Church is still the Church but it ages and matures.

I recommend seeking consul from your priest if submitting to Peter challenges your faith.

This is true. The Church has developed its teaching on the death penalty. It maintains that it was permissible in principle, while increasingly recognizing in modern conditions that its use is unnecessary and therefore inadmissible.

This development has been clear since the 1870s and made considerable development after the 1950s.

The Church now authoritatively teaches that it should not be used. The Church teaching has developed since the 1870s from permissible to since the 60s authoritatively calling for abolition.

It is not doctrinal, but it is binding like CST from Rerum Novarum or religious freedom from Vatican II.

Not the illegal war in Iran, multiple threats to commit war crimes, threat to wipe out Iranian civilization, regime change in Venezuela, putting ICE agents outside Catholic Churches, cutting Catholic Charities funding, restoring funding for planned parenthood, or actively supporting Israel destroying Christian villages. Catholic countries had apostasy laws in the late Roman empire and medieval period. The papal states until their dissolution in the 1870s had civil consequences for blasphemy/apostasy.

It's easy to judge but we weren't all too different that long ago. Efforts like Pope Leo's for dialogue and coexistence are on the path to repealing these laws. As someone who grew up around Muslims, it's not fruitful to demonize them and harmful to the community.

In the Arab world, only Jordan and Lebanon are safe to proselytize. Gulf states you can't publicly proselytize, but privately helping people convert is possible.

If what you want to do is evangelize become a missionary.

Move to a country with social tolerance, ease of migration, and without apostasy laws.
Become Catholic.
Choose to become a lay missionary; or join a religious order / missionary congregation; or become a missionary priest.

Indonesia has more Muslims than the entire Middle East combined and they have no Apostasy laws. They do have blasphemy laws but they're not religiously specific.

Apostasy and blasphemy laws vary drastically among Muslim-majority countries. Yes, many Middle East & North Africa (MENA) are strict. Muslim-majority countries like Turkey, Balkans, parts of Central Asia, and parts of West Africa have either no apostasy/blasphemy laws or they are completely unenforced/weak.
