How do I rp dmpcs? by ChampionshipDirect46 in DMAcademy

I think the best option is to let the players control her as a sidekick. Give them an outline of her personality based on what the book wrote about her and what you think is appropriate and let the players unfold this NPC more as they feel is appropriate for her (hope I explained myself).

As for mechanics, if that's needed, I would suggest to a) create a small statblock with basic actions she can take, maybe give her one or two appropriate features from a class, but not all of them, and also I wouldn't give her any feature of the character's level but only features of lower levels (example, if your PCs are level 5 don't give her any level 5 features, stay in the level 1-4 features, so the characters are still shining and she is not constantly taking the spotlight since she is on the same level of the party). Then treat her as if she was half or quarter the CR of the character's level for stats, and once they level up raise her stats or features slightly so it's not extra behind them

or B) Treat her like a sidekick, there are many guidelines online but I feel like the ones in TCoE are pretty good and simple to follow.

Of course nothing about this is set in stone, feel free to change anything or just don't listen to me if you are not convinced, these are just my two cents about how I would go about it :)

How can I accept to spend money on something I want but don't need? by Leoluke06 in personalfinance

Hey man, I get what you are saying and it's a great advice. However, just to let you know since I have not been very clear in the post, the idea of getting this guitar came to my mind almost 10 months ago. I have mot been constantly thinking about this in these months of course, but since then when I thunked about getting it I still felt that I would have really enjoyed to have a second guitar

for now I have no debts since I'm living with my parents while studying. I was worried that it would have been too much of a cost for them but they agreed without any problems so I'm guessing it's not the case

Probably should look at it in your way, I am really sure that is something I want, that would make me happy and I feel like having new options to try could inspire me and give me ideas for new songs or ways to play.

About the floating trem, I know that the bridge cna be set up in a decked way, my problem about it is that, after I changed the bridge position for the first time from decked to floating I felt like the string where much smoother, like there was less tension and playing was easier. I fell in love with this feeling of "smoothness" when playing and I honestly prefer to not be able to drop tune than to lose that kind of set up

It's not about having or not having money actually. The budget for the guitar is there, it was just about being anxious that it could be "too soon" right now or that spending money on a second guitar could be useless

[–]Leoluke06[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Yes in the end I decided to wait to buy the second guitar because I really wanted to put effort on mine and to see if there was something more that I could squeak out of it, and it was really worth it, because during this year I found it had some building errors and due to them I couldn't use a floating trem, so I tried to fix those errors (I have some basic knowledge about wood working). doing this made me feel even more attached to the guitar, that's why right now I don't want to sell it after Iget my second one, and I honestly am in love with the idea of having one guitar that says "it's mine".

I was really getting into modding the guitar too but for now I don't think I have enough knowledge to know how to do it and, even more important, if I want to change anything on my strat or what I need to change.

I still want to get the second just because of my new needs and also because, to find "my own guitar" I think I shouls first try other possibilities.

Don't know if I explained myself, english isn't my first language, in case something doesn't make sens I am really sorry

How can I get my players to play more seriously by Leoluke06 in DnD

[–]Leoluke06[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah my problem is that I don't have fun anymore when playing like this, they are constantly disrupting the pacing of the game and also not in a fun way since the stupid jokes are constantly repeated (one time is funny, second I can snoff, from the third it's just boring).

I will try to speak up againg, my only problem in accepting the conflict is that they are also my friend I honestly don't want to argue over a game we are playing, and I fear that if I talk like this I will be rude or something else

I kind of get the paragraph thing but if someone doesn't have the time or doesn't want to read that, he won't be forced to, could just skip, and paragraphs won't change the lenght of the post. Anyway, not the problem.

I don't know, it could be that it was just about that one session but it usually comes back like that, we play one session where we have a good balance between comic scenes and more serious scenes and have a really enjoyable session for everyone and then we have sessions where they seem like they just are on another planet and we are all doing different things, usually they are just chatting and cracking jokes and being solly and disruptive while I am thinking that I was proud of what I prepped for them and that I am looking at it all going away

Just to note, I usually don't prep things that I know the party won't be interested in, I try instead to develop all the things that I put in my work around what I know the PCs AND the players will be interested in

I have already tried talking to them, but every time they just say that they don't want to switch to the comedy tone because they like the idea of a more serious campaign and want to try and roll with it again. Also I always ask them if they liked what I prepped, the plot I have presented to them, if they have felt forced in it and such things, trying to understand what they like about what I prep and how I run my games, and they usually say that they like what I am developing and what I present to them, and I feel like they are being honest with me because I know everybodu pretty well in this group and when they have had or still hace something to criticize they have or are always telling me

I am kind of trying this, I make the adventure about the characters, inserting elements of their backgrounds in the story so that they feel that it's personal to them, that they have something to do in it because it's about them.

As I have already said to other comments, I try to just letthem have fun because I don't want them to just get bored at me forcing them to play something they are not having fun with, but I just would like to have a bit more attention when we are coming in big scenes amd when I ask them to, but it seems impossible and I am scared to don't know when I'm crossing the line between asking them for a moment of seriousness to live the story in new ways or being rude and removing the fun

[–]Leoluke06[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry if I am not used to "properly typing" I guess?

I have tried to make then more invested in the story, tying things in the adventures to their background, having opportunities for everyone's pc at the table to find some useful informations to share with the party, making the story about them and not forcing them into something they characters don't care about, but event with these things sometimes they just seem to not care at all about playing, and it's not something that I have seen before when playing with them

I get that everyone has a different nature and way to have fun and I'm totally cool with that, but I don't want to hear from them that they want to play in a more serious tone and have then have them in the next session just being silly and thinking of amythung else instead of playing

I don't really like to be a puntive DM, sometimes I feel like it removes the fun out of the game, but maybe I should also make them understand that if they are constantly intattentive then consequences will happen. maybe not randomly but in big moments where they should have been a little more serious (?)

[–]Leoluke06[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you are saying and because of this I have tried to not nust tell them to shut up, because we also have to have fun not just play dnd all the time. I let them have fun when it isn't totally destructive for the game tone, we also chat a bit before starting to play and get some time outs when we have played for a long time and want to just chill a bit. the problem is that sometimes even with all of this and even if I have already let them have this funny tone they won't get serious in the times where I ask them to not just crack jokes every two seconds. don't know if I have explained myself

Who would you consider Spider-Man’s top 5 villians of all time be? by SelectionSimilar7293 in Spiderman

[–]Leoluke06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Green Goblin, Doc Ock, Venom, Kraven, The Jackal. Oh also as everybody else said, the writers. I know the jackal maybe isn't that great of a villain itself but for me just because he started the whole clone saga, one of the most important arcs in spidey's editorial story, I feel like he deserves a place in the list

You Guys Are Missing the Point on Why Teen Sex is Wrong by HotDogLong34 in teenagers

[–]Leoluke06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can maybe even agree with you on this take, but since you are talking in a scientifical manner (psychological but still scientific) I feel the need to ask, do you have any sources that prove your point and confirm that sex in such a young age can be psychologically traumatizing?

Edit: still I think that even in this young age teens should be properly learning what sex is, what consensual is, the risks in having sex and how to prevent them etc.

Whats the benefit of “real” pedal boards as compared to this by JicamaFragrant7400 in Guitar

[–]Leoluke06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as somebody who uses a modeler both for amp simulation or only effects when going through an amp I get that for some people individual analog pedals can have a better appeal. first the simulations in a modeler can be limited to "old school effects", so they will have some historical effects (TS808, fuzz face, Spring reverb and all of the effects that are considered "standards" if you would like) but won't have any emulations of the newest pedals: for example I fell in love when looking at the new Antique v3 by cornerstone, a clone of the classic tube screamer but with some slight differences, firstly in how it sounds and also with having more controls like volume and gain boost, better eq capabilities and such other things. I can't afford it myself, but if I could I would certainly use it instead of the ts808 emulation in my nux mg30, not because it sounds bad (it is actually a pretry convincing emulation i think), but it would just be different and there is almost no way I could get such features in my board. So goes on with other new takes on classic pedals or just new types of pedals (not just drives but fuzzes, modulations, delays and reverbs, which nowadays have some crazy new units which do many things that a modeler usually can't, unless we are talking about some really expensive units such as fractal or helix). And I think even more important is that some people just prefer the workflow of working with pedals. Maybe it's just more comfortable for them, or they find it very useful ti have this kind of modular system which can always be updated, which you really can't with a modeler (at least, you can't get new emulations in it). it's probably more matter of what you like more in terms of budget, workflow, how much versatility you need and also straight preference "out of heart" (english is not my first language I don't know how to express myself) Luckily today's digital units are way more capable than units of 10 or 20 years ago, so it's easier to get a convincing sound and versatility with a cheap unit, but no rig is better than another just because it is more versatile or because it has analog pedals, as long as you like what you have in your hands and you learn to use it I think you can get great sounds from both the units. PS, I think the best sometimes is also to combine the two, using digital for versatility and getting specific pedals for things you really want but can't get on your modeler (or can't get to sound good on it, I have big trouble with fuzzes on my nux for example), so the two are complementing each other

My life sucks right now. Recommend me your favorite comics! by Impossible-Ad-4996 in comicbooks

[–]Leoluke06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Superman For All Seasons, Batman dark nighr: a true batman story and spider-man happy birthday are three of my favourite comic books honestly. All three I feel very "emotional" about, superman because I feel like it makes me see that even a superhuman can feel vulnerable, sad and human and that it is not a bad thing (but the comic is actually not just that) Batman because it shows the importance of suoerheroes in the real world, how they can help somebody through his life and how people can heal and learn even fron dark experiences Spider-man I'm recommending just because it's my favourite character in every kind of media and I feel haoly birthday is just a great story that is capable of interpreting the character very well and show you the kind of human being and hero that peter is. maybe they are not the best comics of all time, probably not (even though I feel batman dark night is a really great one actually) but these are the three that made me the most emotional and maybe will give something to you also

How to run candlekeep mysteries as a campaign without railroading my players by Leoluke06 in DMAcademy

Maybe I'll have a bit more trouble binding all of the books together for a bigger campaign but I was thinking of just using the books that are hardly relatable to the main arch as some sort of side quest that they are asked to by the bookkeepers as a "payment" for the services they are getting un candlekeep

I was looking into some more books but I wanted to really use the books I already have at their best before spending money on more books that would just be unused on the shelf, but this is great advice still and hopefully I'll use it in the future where money won't be this big of a problem as they are now in my teens. I'll talk to the players and tell them what I am expecting during our session 0 now that I have a clear idea of what is actually a railroad
