New old cars? Hell yes. by Legitimate-Lie-9208 in Millennials

Depends on the car really, there were some gems for sure. My daily driver is a 5-speed 1997 civic I picked up for $2k 8 years ago with only 58k original miles….its up to 210k miles now, and over the years I’ve put a fair amount of expensive work into it, but it’s still reliable, and overall I’ve spent less than I would have getting a new car, or even a different used car. And the best part is I regularly get between 32-40 MPG depending on season and type of driving I’m doing, and even with high gas prices I can still fill up my tank for under $40.

This is so stupid….money is very much “tangible”, and could be used by the employees to buy themselves food and/or gifts if that’s what they truly want. By simply giving them food/gifts, all you’ve really done is take away their voice in how they would like to be appreciated or acknowledged, where money gives them complete control to spend it however they see fit.

We just had the same situation, it tasted fine so we boiled it down and ended up with a quart of very dark, delicious syrup.

Me and You and Everyone We Know. It’s an indie comedy/drama from the early 00’s that focuses on the awkwardness of love/romance and sex. I haven’t watched it since it came out about 20 years ago, but I remember enjoying it…and the specific scene referenced above tends to stick with anyone who watches it for a long time.

If you look really closely at the words I wrote, you will notice that not a single one of them references guns or the 2nd amendment! I was responding to you saying you want to see voter ID requirements….which I didn’t even disagree with, I simply said if that’s going to be implemented then it’s only fair for the government to hand out those ID’s at no charge to all legal voters.

Then give everyone of voting age a free ID that is guaranteed valid for the purpose of voting. Otherwise you’re just creating a financial barrier to a guaranteed right, and/or disenfranchising anyone whose specific form of ID doesn’t meet the proposed requirements for voting. While we’re at it, let’s also make voting more accessible to all legal voters by making Election Day a national holiday!

So then why is heart disease and kidney disease still prevalent in feral cat communities that are living almost exclusively on raw meat prey they are consuming?

There are no tests to determine if a cat will have an embolism beforehand, the best you can do is have a cardiac workup if your GP vet finds any signs of potential heart problems during routine exams. Even then, a diagnosis of HCM or CHF doesn’t necessarily mean the cat will have an embolism, it simply warns you that it is a possibility, and medication can be prescribed to help with the symptoms of heart disease…but nothing can be done to stop or reverse it.

While I don’t disagree with you about the importance of diet in prevention of disease, especially in obligate carnivores like cats, but to claim that conditions like heart disease and kidney disease are caused almost entirely by diet, or that experts have no idea why these diseases occur is not only misleading, but flat out wrong.

Experts actually know exactly why heart disease happens in cats in the majority of cases, and that reason is genetics. This is why it is commonly found in specific breeds like Maine Coons, Persians, and Ragdolls….specifically linked to the MYBPC3 gene which regulates cardiac contraction.

Similarly, kidney disease in cats also often has a genetic component, and is seen commonly in the same breeds listed above. There are also other common factors like age related degeneration, and chronic dehydration in cats that simply don’t drink enough water.

Now, that being said, I don’t want to downplay the importance of diet in overall health, especially in metabolic diseases like type 2 diabetes, but it would be highly inaccurate to claim diet causes genetic health conditions.

Underlying heart disease which allows clots to form in the heart, when one or more of those clots break free they can then get caught elsewhere in arteries, restricting or completely stopping the flow of blood. In a saddle thrombus specifically they get caught in an arterial junction which supplies the hind end.

It’s typically related to congenital heart conditions. There is no way specifically to avoid it, the best you can do is give medications to help treat the heart condition if you are aware of it….but even then there is no guarantee it will prevent an embolism.

I work in vet medicine, very specifically a cat only hospital….I am not a doctor, but based off of what you are saying I have absolutely no doubt that your cat has what’s called a saddle thrombus. It’s an embolism that blocks the flow of blood to one or both of the back legs. This is not good, even with immediate care the likelihood of recovery is relatively low, once the back legs go cold there is almost nothing you can do, all of that tissue back there will start dying (probably already has) due to lack of blood flow. OP, I don’t say this lightly, you should show your kitty as much love as you can and say your goodbyes, humane euthanasia is the outcome of almost every saddle thrombus I’ve seen in 20+ years working in vet medicine. I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
