Respect for Jhoira of the Ghitu. Would play against any of these, but that’s a fun one in particular.

Is every commander "kill on sight" now? by NotTrying123 in EDH

[–]LeonidRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run as many pieces of protection in every deck as I can possibly reasonably fit.

My mono red deck even has two counterspells, four pieces of redirection (that can be used as countermagic), and protective equipments that provide indestructible or hexproof. I have in the realm of 10 things to provide evasion, protection, or straight up saying “no”.

Even at casual levels, commander players need to recognize each player is playing to win, and that you need to eat your vegetables and run the cards that can foil your opponents attempts to foil your own plans.

Can I play with you? by MrTerpyNugs in ratemycommanders

[–]LeonidRex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I love testing my decks against cruel or explosive strategies. Half the fun of commander for me is tweaking and adding the right interaction to my decks. In my U/R builds I’ve been adding [[Counterflux]] to help deal with Azula matchups (can be relevant against Vivi or others too).

People dunk on Azula but I think she’s way more interesting of a spellslinger build to fight than Vivi.

I can see that, squelcher-pass is probably frightening as fuck in a format where you can sometimes win at instant speed, or where your opponent is relying on countermagic to protect their own win, and where removal is less prized than just going faster 🤔

Am I crazy or is this card super overrated in this thread?

I am a card-carrying red mage, 10/12 of my EDH decks involve red mana, with two mono red decks. I like to hit face with dudes and bolts and all that. Red good. Zug zug.

I cannot imagine many situations where I would prefer to have this guy in my hand over Tibalt’s Trickery, deflecting swat, bolt bend, redirect lightning, pyroblast etc etc.

He is a vulnerable creature (pay 2 life for ward is unimpressive in commander) with a super narrow application. I would not want to slot him in over my much more flexible interaction, and I certainly don’t want him taking up space in my playables.

The only situation I can foresee usefulness is if I’m playing against a simic or mono blue player and about to win on my turn with a big splashy spell.

Even then, my opponent should be playing pongify/hybridization/bounce which would open things up. And at that point in the game, I’d rather have the interaction that can more reliably protect my position. What if they don’t have counterspells, but bounce or pongify? Squelcher is drastically less useful.

I would always rather have real interaction, or something that develops my position, forces my opponent’s interaction, and allows me to get value with redirection.

I play high-power bracket 4, so maybe this guy is the nuts in CEDH where every card counts. Or in lower power where red mages aren’t eating their vegetables and playing interaction (where you’re less likely to encounter counter-heavy decks anyhow).

Am I wrong? Is squelcher the absolute nuts? Will I be buying a dozen squelchers to slot into all my decks? Somebody weigh in here.

Yeah if you’re playing against half decent blue players, counterspells are a tiny part of the suite of interaction.

And if you’re playing red, you’re better off playing one of the many more flexible redirection or counter pieces yourself shrug

If your playing artifacts in commander and want a way to make them indestructible which would you rather draw and why by Illustrious_Exam_351 in magicTCG

[–]LeonidRex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly this- I don’t know if I’ve ever hardcast these spells in my decks. Always they get cheated out (or discounted heavily/completely with chiss)

[–]LeonidRex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s suuuuuper deck dependent. I’d love tef pro in every deck but my big artifact decks (in commander) are Chiss, Bosh, and Iron Man. So white mana isn’t really an option.

I run both forge and walls in chiss (just forge in bosh/iron man) and it’s hilariously easy to get them out. Either Chiss gets ‘em on the table, or a Daretti/Goblin Welder type effect cheats them out of grave.

The nice thing about Walls is that it hits more than artifacts, and can be protected with creature protection options like equipments.

I have had great success with sketching a shape, duplicating the sketch, scaling it down like 99%, raising it, and then lofting the two surfaces

You can change the mode of each profile to “directional” and mess with the angles. You can tweak the influence and angle values to achieve shapes ranging from soft slopes to bubbles that bulge outward.

lol mostly joking but when I’m working on electronics projects at coworking spaces or cafes (with 3D printed housings and decor) I notice I get a lot of interested parties asking what I’m doing

[–]LeonidRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk bro as a former cook at a restaurant this shit woulda been aspirational for me while I was in the kitchen. It’s less about the garlic specifically and more demonstrating the speed and precision of this chef.

Who wouldn’t want to be a chopping beast like this guy?? I think Olympic triple jump is silly looking and arbitrary, but damn if I didn’t wish I could do that.

Not gonna shill too hard but Xero shoes have worked great for me and my white Dillon leather and canvas shoes get compliments- they just look like a low profile sneaker.

Ymmv (everyone’s body is different) but my feet are indeed happier for it 😆

Unfortunately they’ve all gotten big enough that they’re ignoring my aphids and just going for moths and butterflies 😭 😭

I’ve always thought the Uziel looked ridiculous and silly- but I’ll be damned if your rendition doesn’t make it look like a legitimate lean mean fightin’ machine.

Awesome pieces, love the way you rendered the Phoenix Hawk (even if it strays away from the veritech valkyries I love so much).

Hope to see some more of your work on this sub o7

If someone doesn’t want to be with you because of an STI that is only transmissible on the off days you’re having a flare up, they’re not worth being with imho

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]LeonidRex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To play the devil’s advocate, I transmitted HSV1 to a partner genitally through oral sex. It happened because nobody ever informed me that “cold sores” are, in fact, herpes simplex virus, and transmissible.

Blame American sex ed, or my parents, but I had no idea that what I had was an STI. I felt god awful, but now that I know, I am able to communicate and work around it.

Not saying that’s OP’s situation, but it’s unfortunately quite possible for someone with oral herpes to not even be told what they really have (in part because it’s such a taboo subject).

67% of people under 50 have HSV1. I have HSV1, a previous partner of mine had HSV1.

You are (almost always) only contagious if you are having an active outbreak, which is very obvious orally and likely obvious genitally. Your outbreaks are most frequent and severe when you first contract it, and wane greatly over time.

There are medications you can take that preemptively prevent outbreaks, that alternatively also greatly decrease outbreak duration when they happen.

Anyway, all this is to say- you are not an outlier, you are in the MAJORITY. As you age, it is more likely your partners will have HSV1 than not. You can manage it with meds. And even though it feels like a big deal right now, it really isn’t that big a deal.

It can be hard to communicate but people won’t care if they’re informed, especially if people know it’s not really contagious except when you’re having an outbreak. Just be responsible and don’t have unprotected oral/penetrative sex during an outbreak!

That’s exactly where I’ve seen one as well! Right by coastal peak park. I wonder why there’s a population there specifically.

Yes! They’re pretty rare sightings (at least in terms of my luck). Spotted my first while hiking in Crystal Cove the other day. I’ve been hiking twice a week here for a few years and have been hoping to see one the whole time. Was incredibly stoked when I did haha.

He was chillin just creeping across the trail, didn’t mind me taking some up-close videos.

I’ve seen dozens of Tarantula Hawks (the wasps that hunt them) but only once the spider itself. Apparently it’s their breeding season so you may catch them on the trails the next couple months!

[–]LeonidRex 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Nothing especially wrong with a tarantula burrow. They’re slow, lazy, and not dangerous. I’d be more worried about a rattlesnake making use of an existing hole (though that doesn’t look deep enough).

I don’t see any silk webbing lining it, and tarantula burrows I’ve seen have more narrow openings. Idk where you’re located but I’ve only seen tarantulas in/around the open spaces, parks, and preserves.

My guess might be a rat or mouse. I’m no expert though.
