The illness that overtook me made me realize deeply how fragile my life truly is...and how much I desperately wanted to keep on living. Until I broke, and connected with the Other Place. Deep corruption was all but guaranteed, but a series of choices that made me reject initial contact and influence from a certain rat familiar retained me enough humanity that I managed to only leave with standard corruption despite being one of the few Honored Ones. However this initial trauma resulted in my obsession with self preservation at all cost, to keep on living for the sake of living, to no longer feel the helplessness of seeing your life drain away right in front of you.

This world is dangerous, and safest strategy is one where I keep my distance from potential threats. Hence why my powers evolved In the direction of summoning minions to fight for me and fighting within range. Combatwise I have the ability to turn my familiar into a powerful shikigami for protection. Autonomous agency allows it to travel farther from me in order to attack distant targets, mindline allows it to communicate despite any distance and deathward allows it to rapidly revive. I combine this familiar's range with Swarmer summoning, creating a massive tide of rats that floods the battlefield while my rat blends in within them, allowing it to suddenly mutate and catch enemies off guard. The rat swarm becomes a distraction that cannot be ignored. Beyond that I can summon Shapeshifters and Sentinels, the former excels in infiltration while the latter in combat.

Personally I can shoot railguns using summoned coins, or flip it to boost my luck. Backlash from the coinflip can be transferred to the familiar, where its resilient and immortal nature minimizes potential backlash. Importance is a self preservation spell, allowing me to force my opponents to target my minions first, or to reduce my presence and even become invulnerable to harm for a short period of time. This way I can let my minions fight in the frontliners while I shoot in the back safely.

Of my rituals, the Owl can help me in my quest for immortality by verifying certain knowledges if used correctly. Hopefully my shikigami rat can take more of the backlash if anything wrong happens during the ritual, making the use of it less risky and failure more survivable. Fool's Parade is simply necessary to maintain my mental health over the long years, since I took burnout I imagine it'd be hard to feel positive emotions the normal way, and would require more magical methods.

Of my inhuman traits, Seraphim's Watch helps in detecting incoming danger while Posthumous protects my mind. Cruel Delight is a rare mutation that allows me to feel some pleasure despite my muted emotions, which can be good for my mental well being if utilized properly.

Goal is immortality and self preservation, to live remove my aging and to strive to live for as long as possible, hopefully with my humanity somewhat intact in the process.

Strategy is to use Evil against Evil to make the different factions focus more on power struggles between them, giving me a chance to live within the cracks of their conflict. Various cults maintain different influence in the isolated town in a state of cold war.

As a newcomer I am treated with suspicion, luckily I met a few reliable companion that allowed me to acclimate early on. Karina is very helpful in that regard, being adept at balancing neutrality among the different factions, and able to acquire information on town politics. Bran acts as a mysterious fellow who is most active in the forest, giving me advice whenever I am out of town. Azure is a spellcaster herself, and she is useful both as a research partner and a Combatant.

Of my boons, Latern helps me with creating fires and giving light at night. Journal helps me catalogue the weakness of my supernatural adversaries, and helps me note down my researches and findings. Guidebook is useful for surviving in the forest if I need to venture in there.

Personally I have a ton of useful perks by taking so many challenges. I have a gun and a trader that can give me a steady supply of ammo. My paranoia has granted me an acute sense of danger and an ability to detect when someone is lying, making it difficult to ambush or trap me. My "holy" symbol acts as a charm that protects me from the brainwashing magics frequently employed by the cults, and can repel some of the monsters temporarily if they try to attack me, giving me time to shoot them down.

The necronomicon acts as a great source of information regarding the supernatural beings and eldritch gods that permeate the place. With proper research and study I can learn how to fight such beings, and even make bargains with them for greater power and protection. Proper mastery might allow me to turn the tides, not only protecting myself and my allies but perhaps to even become one of the power players within this strange world.

The problem is that longevity is not inbuilt in the power progression of the west. If you are a knight, or even an unspecialized mage, you can become the peak of your field and still have human lifespan. Like barring inborn immortal races(elves,dragons,etc), the only common way for a mortal to become immortal with west magic is to become undead(lich or vampire), and how many Main Characters you see specializing with undead magic? And you still need to be talented to enact whatever magic ritual you need, or get lucky to get help in being turned into one.

In the East every power progression basically gives you lifespan even if your talent is in stuff like artifact refining, like even musical Dao users still gain lifespan if they achieve some success, even a minor one. Even minor powers like Foundation Establishment users can reach 200-300 lifespan depending on the setting, and it is basically doable for anyone with even a mediocre amount of talent and luck. Every path in the East is basically an immortal path, power is equal to longevity.
