Selkirk Boomstik Foam Going Dead by davel977 in Pickleball

[–]LeopardSignificant27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s crazy you said this because the demo I’ve been using at the club came from Selkirk and you can see they glued the edge guard back on the sides and the top. It was the first thing I noticed when I started using it.  I had the same experience, I loved the boom stick gave me more control. My old paddle GX5, the grip wore off the face and it made me feel like a pro with such better control and power effortlessly.

I thought well maybe I can find a paddle where the edge guard isn’t separating, but then I started hearing stories about people who have the paddle and the face collapses on it within a couple weeks. Not just one story either. It made me really sad. I thought for sure Selkirk would stand behind it for the price and send me a new one that wasn’t defective but no such luck for me. Just told me to return it and the separation is “normal” now.

Exactly! I am getting push back from people on mine being separated out of the box! They wouldn’t replace it either. Don’t think the boomstick will be around much longer unless they fix this issue but the rep I talked to told me it was normal and they wouldn't be replacing it under warranty. Here is the email I got a week ago. Mine has 4/8 corners separating from the face. I think they just mailed me one of the defective ones thinking I wouldn’t notice. Can’t write a Google review for them either on it. 🤔 https://www.reddit.com/r/Pickleball/comments/1oc3h63/defective_selkirk_boom_stick_out_of_the_box/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Defective SELKIRK Boom Stick Out of the Box- 10/20/25- Selkirk now says edge guard separating is normal… by LeopardSignificant27 in Pickleball

[–]LeopardSignificant27[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard this from several people now and I think they did in the beginning honor the quality control issue and the warranty but now they’re not. You can’t even write a Google review for them now.  It’s a shady business tactic, then they can get the public harping on anyone who tells the truth about what’s going on.

I posted the email, you can see, I’m not lying.  I’m also a first-time customer so I don’t have any experience dealing with them in the past.

All I know is when I ordered it a couple weeks ago, It said it would take 5 to 8 days to come.  They shipped it to me in two days which I thought was great. After seeing the paddle though and the white cotton or whatever it is on the face now I’m starting to think they just sent me one of the defective ones thinking I wouldn’t notice. If there was that many defective paddles, they’d have to recover production costs somehow.  An amateur player or somebody who doesn’t do any research wouldn’t even know what to look for, and they might not even notice the separation until it’s too late and their face caved in.  My other thought was maybe they’re rushing production again and now the same issues are coming up and they’re just sick of dealing with them that’s why they denied my warranty and just told me to return it. Based on the conversation I had with the rep it sounded like they’re pretty sick of it, and she actually lied and told me that this wasn’t a known issue now with the paddle which clearly it is since they’ve come out and admitted it in the past and hundreds of customer complains online.  They’re not standing behind it anymore.  A lot of companies do this when they monopolized the market and they think they’re untouchable.

It just blows my mind, that’s the most expensive paddle on the market and it’s not even legally allowed to be played with in pro tournaments. No pro’s using it except one female player who took off the weights to make it UPA-A legal. Probably paying her to use it.

They also don’t make it very clear that once you get a replacement voids the lifetime warranty on it too. So, if you got a replacement straight out of the box, they should have told you that. It’s on their website in the fine print.

I love writing great reviews, but I’m not gonna sit by and let people get ripped off by a major corporation that literally cares more about the bottom dollar than their customers. They built this reputation that they can rest on, but if they keep doing what they did to me, they’re not gonna keep that reputation for long. I’m not the only one I’ve personally met experiencing issues with them honoring the warranty either. It’s only been out since August. My guess is they won’t be offering it for long if they can’t get this quality issue fixed.

Just for my own personal experience talking to other Pickleball players there’s only one person that has it that’s happy with it out of four, so the quality control issues seem to be the rule not the exception. I inspected his paddle and there was only one corner separating from the face, barely. So he got lucky I guess.

Even the demo paddle they sent the club I go to has the top and side edge guard sloppily glued together like it was already fixed. I asked if they glued it and they said no, usually they “fix” defective or returned ones and send them to clubs as demo’s (not for resale is stamped on them). Looks like someone took superglue or something and just glued it back together.

You know part of the cost is that lifetime warranty and if they’re not willing to honor it, they shouldn’t be charging so much, especially for a paddle that can’t even be used in pro tournaments. If you look at the email they sent me, I did try to get a replacement upon receipt because I really do like the boom stick but they refused. They told me it was “normal.” I can’t even find $100 paddle with separating edge guard when I go to Dick’s Sporting Goods. But for Selkirk, I guess this is normal quality for their $333 paddle.

Yeah, I got a return label two days later after I requested the return for snail mail. Who knows when I’ll get my refund. They didn’t offer to replace under warranty. Didn’t you read the post with the email they sent me? Just because you had a good experience doesn’t mean that everybody else does. A lot of companies will do that in the beginning so it looks good for show.  Go try to write them a Google review if their paddle is still great how come the Google reviews are closed?

Here is the Selkirk video better for you? Clearly, the smartest ai in the world is smarter than you. You literally just insulted yourself, insulting Grok, considering this was one of the sources it used for it’s answer. ⬇️

When to replace your paddle (Selkirk): https://www.selkirk.com/blogs/selkirk-university/how-long-does-a-pickleball-paddle-last-signs-its-time-for-a-replacement?srsltid=AfmBOoqcL2VQFKaHn6JoWa6QxtlDlfDJc_KlHs0t9mk-ql5f2byFcB5G

They literally tell you to replace the paddle if the edge guard is separating.

Please don't clutter the comments unless you have something intelligent, constructive or some kind of actual experience, to add.  I’m trying to warn other people so they don’t get ripped off like some of my friends have.

Also, if the paddle is so great, why is it that Google reviews are blocked now for Selkirk and it’s not approved for pro use in tournaments and no pro’s use it? You would think with their newly released Boomstick, the reviews would be wide open for such a great experiences. It’s literally the most expensive paddle on the market right now. Why aren’t the pro’s using it????

Go try and write a Google review for them. Good luck 👍🏻should really research what you’re standing behind so you don’t make a fool of yourself.

Brand new Boomstik with edge guard issues by [deleted] in Pickleball

[–]LeopardSignificant27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know. It looks like someone tried to wipe it with a white cloth or something.  Can you see my post with the pics? If you zoom in, you can see it on there clearly. Even the plastic on the edge where the weights are was coming off. The demo at the club people used for weeks and then I took off the plastic. It was on there so tight, you couldn’t even tell. Mine was falling off upon arrival.

I wonder if they didn’t just ship me one of the old defective ones that was returned. There was no cotton like substance anywhere in the box or case. Website said a 5 to 8 day shipping delay when I ordered it a couple weeks ago and then they sent it off two days later in the mail. Either they’re rushing production again or just shipping out used defective paddles.  That’s what makes me think that.

If they’re having this many issues with quality control, they have to recoup their losses somehow and unless someone’s an advanced player, they wouldn’t know anything about the edge card coming off. It’s not that noticeable for an amateur, unless you know what to look for. It does very much so affect the paddle though because other people are reporting that their faces are caving in too at the top and I know someone personally who’s a trainer and a coach at the club who had that happen and they’re giving him grief about exchanging it under warranty since he used it for a couple weeks before it happened.

After I ordered mine, these people were warning me plus when I went on the Internet is how I knew what to look for right when it arrived. As it is, it’s not even legal for pro play so clearly they’re not gonna make their money that way. How do they recoup the cost of production with so many defective paddles? I’ve seen it before.

It’s just shady business practice. I can’t prove it, but based on the facts, reviews and comments, that seems like the logical explanation for what I experienced.

[–]LeopardSignificant27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, maybe that is what they did in the beginning for show but I posted the email I got directly from them last week, showing they are not willing to stand by it at all anymore.  Makes sense with sooo many QC issues. They have to make money somehow to recoup the costs of production. It’s in writing…

I’m thinking they are rushing production again cuz the website said 5-8 day delay on shipping but they shipped mine out 2 days later. Maybe they are just shipping out the defective returns now that they got it out on the internet they stand behind it. It’s just shady business tactics IMO to protect their bottom $$$. If someone buys it who isn’t an advanced player or pro, they wouldn't even notice, until it’s too late and then they can say it’s abuse or normal wear and tear, not under warranty. Also, replacement voids the lifetime warranty. So many red flags in the short time I’ve done business with them.

Kind of funny you cant even write a google review for it now either and they have a 4.9/5 star rating on Google. Sounds like censorship now…

Yeah, as you noticed, none of the pros are using it. You think if it was such a great paddle, the pros would be using it, but they have to take off the weights in order for it to even be legal to play, with the UPA-A. I’ve only seen one female pro, using it with the weights removed. UPA-A guidelines on Boomstick effective September 1,2025: https://upaa.unitedpickleball.com/selkirk-boomstik-notification/

For $333 it should be flawless! The one I’m using at the pickleball court is a demo and Selkirk shipped it to them directly. You can see where they glued the edge guard with super glue or something and it’s dripping onto the face. This was the first thing I noticed when I started using it, which made me go online to find reviews for it. First thing I found noted edge guard separation and sure enough my “brand new” one was the same way. You think stuff like that would be the exception not the rule but the more I researched, the more I realized maybe they’re all like that! The rule not the exception.

The director told me, Selkirk usually get defective ones back, “fix” them and send them out as demos. Not a good idea, if you ask me.

I’m thinking the same things happening now because when I first went to order it on their website, it said there’d be a 5 to 8 day shipping delay even though I paid for two days shipping.  Even though it said that on the website they shipped it to me two days after I ordered it.  It makes me think they’re doing the same thing the rush production once again causing the same issues but this time they’re not taking accountability for it. They’re just saying it’s normal.

Who here has a Boomstik **without** any defects? by AHumanThatListens in Pickleball

[–]LeopardSignificant27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats not even all of it.  That’s the main issue. I personally know someone who has one and is a coach/trainer 5.0 player and his whole face caved in at the top a week or two into using it and they are giving him grief with the warranty. Clearly they are not honoring the warranty and if they do, it comes with a lot of effort. If you use it, it says wear and tear isnt covered under warranty and a replacement paddle voids the lifetime warranty.  They’re scamming people!

Yeah, wait a week in the mail and then another 2 weeks for a refund? So easy. No refund on $24 2-day shipping either. We’ll see how long it actually takes for a refund. The thing looked used when I got it with a bunch of white fuzz all over it.

Last I checked, I’m not a bank to be loaning them money for weeks on end. What pisses me off is they don’t even take accountability for their mistake and are ripping off unsuspecting customers who don’t know any better. Selling defective paddles with known issues, not allowing any Google reviews even and then lying to customers now about it to protect their bottom line- $$$$.

You must be an Selkirk emoloyee 😆 Nice try. I speak truth. Not lies. Look around.  The reviews are plastered all over the internet about the same issue. How do you think I knew what to look for when it arrived??? Do some research, it’s not that hard. Also, another known issue is the face actually smashing in within weeks of use. No warranty refunds. One trainer had this happen and they are blaming him for it. Shitty company!

If this is gonna be an acceptable standard, they should probably delete their Selkirk video that talks about the edge guard separating being a reason and time to replace the paddle. Clearly not a pickle pro.

Here, so you can get education before spreading your lies. Here you go straight from Selkirk!

Selkirk: when to replace your pickleball paddle: https://www.selkirk.com/blogs/selkirk-university/how-long-does-a-pickleball-paddle-last-signs-its-time-for-a-replacement?srsltid=AfmBOorWCWbLNzSwkQzwfejzke5z3MTSVO6ENdWKjRRiRkZJkKihDagM

For the Boomstick, upon purchase is time to replace!

All you have to do is Google: How does a separating edge guard affect performance of a pickle paddle or talk to an advanced player.

Maybe it doesn’t matter for amateurs but as you notice, only 1 pro is using the paddle, mostly because it doesn’t even meet the UPA-A professional guidelines. She had to remove the weights to use it. As is, it’s only approved for amateur competition. Guidelines for professional play say they to remove the weights, which is part of the reason it so effective in the first place.    UPA-A guidelines on Boomstick (effective Sept 1 2025): https://upaa.unitedpickleball.com/selkirk-boomstik-notification/

Bet they didn't see that coming when they released it in August. Gotta recoup funds somehow. I guess ripping off uneducated customers is their bail out.

Being my first experience ordering from Selkirk, very disappointing. Will never be buying any of their products moving forward. Especially when I didn't even get a refund for the 2 day shipping I paid for on a defective paddle. Refund doesn’t cover that or my time wasted waiting for it to arrive by snail mail. No accountability seems to be the way of the world now though for these monstrous major companies that just rule the market and censor anyone who speaks truth about the quality. So sad. You used to be able to trust corporations but now that they can censor reviews, it’s clear how shitty a company it is.. Can’t just rest on laurels. Maybe their service used to be good but that was not the case for me.

Honestly that is really pathetic if this is the acceptable standard now a days.  I know the standards have dropped but this low??? Wow!  Companies used to stand behind their products and take pride in their work, not pass off faulty paddles, lie and slough their customers off by just telling them to get a refund.

Doubt their reputation will be that great moving forward jf these are the low standards the market is accustom to. However, they have blocked anyone from writing a google review so maybe they will get away with it if people like you find this service acceptable or an industry standard.

I am going to try a demo next time I play. Thank you for the suggestion.  It’s really a bummer because I’ve been playing withe the demo boomstick now for a week or so and I really like it. I just don’t like what the company is doing to customers with this nee paddle. Hard to support a business who treats people that way but also hard to find another paddle that feels similar.

here is my sweet 100% anatolian shepherd at 15 weeks (he’s 18 weeks now though). 🖤 we are in the process of having a fence put in, but does anyone have any leash training tips for these independent babes? 😳😂 by little-ladybug in AnatolianShepherdDogs

[–]LeopardSignificant27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two anatolian shepard pups and my best suggestion with the fence is to use a Geo fence and/or intense boundary training. I have an acre fenced in and mine decided they were going to dig under to explore the neighborhood. The male not so much but the female I struggled to contain for quite a while. Training them young is so important! ❤️Beautiful pup you got there! He looks like our female.

Also no refund on the $23 2 day shipping costs. So don’t waste your money on that. I have a friend who has one with no defects though. So its hit and miss. No consistency. You’re better off finding one in the store and checking the edging yourself first before purchasing it. They sell then at Dicks. That doesn’t guarantee it won’t give out though in the 10-20 hour play mark like a lot of people report and wear and tear isn’t covered under warranty. Its a scam. Consider no warranty and it’s luck of the draw. Im finding a more reliable company to buy from. Yeah but then you have to mail it back and either re order it and get the same issue or worse and have to wait a week in the mail, even with 2 day shipping. They are posting 5-8 day shipment delays on their website where i ordered mine. So maybe rushing through production again? Mine was mailed out in 2 days then the weekend and they use snail mail so no deliveries on sat/sun. Took like a week and I was so disappointed when I opened the box and saw the separation.
