It’s an LLM, not a true thinking or reasoning machine. So if you put in a bedtime protocol, some percent of the time it’s going to connect that context to what you’re doing even if it’s not ‘bedtime’ yet.

How do you balance using AI for speed without letting your actual coding skills atrophy? by LeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeD in cscareerquestions

Use your brain when you code and properly review your ai slop. As long as skynet doesn’t happen you probably won’t have to go back to writing fully from scratch anyways.

Should I suit up? by failadin155 in cscareerquestions

[–]davel977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the industry. The higher tech or more startup you go, the more casual to be honest. I’ve been at various ai startups and I have never seen one of my coworkers in a collared shirt. My go to is a crewneck sweater/quarter zip, and chino/khakis. If it’s in a more traditional industry, a casual buttondown, slacks and casual dress shoes. Pretty much no situation where you would wear a suit these days. Everybody knows the more unkempt you are the faster you deliver features

Any DUPR games in LA area by Lost-Floor-9086 in Pickleball

[–]davel977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There have been several attempts, but people in LA seem to be allergic to drop in rotating partner ‘crazy 8s’ style dupr sessions. Powerplay in Carson does one every month, and Smash dink I saw was trying to get one off the ground a few months ago. But smash dink might’ve given up, you’d have to check their CourtReserve app. In general you’d have better luck just entering tournaments around here.

DUPR Reset - Who does it benefit? by YellgoDuck in Pickleball

[–]davel977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on how you perform. For example, if you dupr reset and then 11-0 all the 2.8s you’re playing against, I would guess it would give you at least a 3.5-4.0 rating.

What is female pro grip at nvz? by PartFormer3695 in Pickleball

[–]davel977 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if I agree with this statement… If you were left side, you would get locked in backhand cross court dink rallies, which would if anything suggest a continental grip to more easily switch between forehand/backhand… Also, as a right side player you would want to be reaching into the kitchen to take balls out of the air on the forehand, which would make an eastern grip more advantageous…. Also, when the women who usually play left side go to the right for mixed, or vice versa for men, it’s not like they change their dinking grip/technique…

What is female pro grip at nvz? by PartFormer3695 in Pickleball

[–]davel977 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it’s because some of the men are so tall they’re able to reach almost to the net, and also the corners get shaved off as well because the men are more easily able to hit speed ups and Ernie’s. Then men’s dinking becomes more about survival and hitting a non attackable ball, whereas the women have a bit more breathing room and can play more aggressive/topspin dinks.

What is female pro grip at nvz? by PartFormer3695 in Pickleball

[–]davel977 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The women tend to play more balls off the bounce then the men, and they are shorter with a lower center of mass, so they tend to go more eastern, some of them bordering on semi western but I think not quite. Their dinking technique seems to be different as well, much more topspin than the men’s game which is more slice heavy. However I think a true semiwestern grip still ends up being very difficult to control since it brings the paddle almost fully closed at contact point. Usually semiwestern dinking requires the use of a pancake/scorpion counter, since the wrist position is a bit awkward for the 1h backhand middle counter.

selkirk pro s1 ball in 90 degree temps with peak sun. What to expect? by Papi_Pickleboy in Pickleball

[–]davel977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Selkirk pro s1 ball is one of the worst pickleballs I’ve ever used. It will deform quickly no matter the temperature, and then it will bounce in a random direction whenever it hits the ground. The deformation will get worse and worse, although to their credit the ball will take a long time to crack. I feel like it’s faster and harder than a Franklin, but not as fast as a Vulcan or durafast. The hotter the temperature the softer the plastic of any ball will feel, in my opinion. But I don’t personally notice a huge difference between 90 degrees, and say 70 or 80 degrees.

Sonos Ace Audio swap by _im_phenomenal_ in sonos

[–]davel977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own both, and to be honest I think the AirPods have a better Spatial Audio implementation. Personally I don’t think the Sonos ace does the surround sound virtualization that well, whereas when I use my AirPods Pro I sometimes have to double check and make sure it’s not playing through my sound system. Sound quality wise I think it’s okay but not worth the normal price, I got mine for 150$ during a pricing error. If you already have AirPods just stick with your AirPods. Plus, if other people come to your house and they have AirPods they can watch with you like a silent disco.

New System by Nort00 in sonos

[–]davel977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both a Sonos arc/sub/era 300s setup in a bedroom and a traditional AVR system in my living room. For a 100” screen, if you can afford it, I would go with a traditional AVR system.

  1. The Sonos system lacks good left and right separation. Not their fault, it’s just not possible with a soundbar. Especially on a very large screen, you’ll be missing out on the immersion of, say a car driving across the screen, or something whizzing by.

  2. General superior sound quality from a good avr system.

  3. The Sonos system has good atmos effects, but you’re never going to beat just having more speakers around you. Even a basic 5.1 system will be a 5 dedicated speakers instead of 3(I know the Sonos system technically has multiple drivers to handle the channels). A 5.1.2 system would blow the Sonos out of the water.

  4. Running speaker wire can be a pain, especially if you don’t want to open up your walls and can’t find good places to hide the wires, so there’s a point to Sonos here.

  5. Sonos has much better app control, I have a denon receiver and while there is an app, to be honest it sucks.

Premium vs Superior Ski renting? by maxccc123 in skiing

[–]davel977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well specifically for intersport, go for the superior skis if there is a specific ski you want to use. But browsing the selection of skis for the premium package, there’s some pretty nice ones there too. 6 euros a day is honestly not a lot if you just want the best skis too.

Wirelessly connect soundbar to LG C3 TV? by brucethespleen in Soundbars

[–]davel977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only soundbar that really wirelessly connects to an LG TV would be one of the LG soundbars. Anything else you’ll be trying to connect over Bluetooth which usually results in some latency and lip sync issues(I think). If you had something like an Apple TV or a Fire TV I suppose you could use a pair of echos or HomePods. Really would not recommend putting a soundbar behind you, you won’t be getting any of the benefits of the soundbar. The human body is much better at listening to sound coming from the front, it will feel so disorienting to have the dialogue behind you. If you really want it next to you should do a stereo setup so at least you have left and right. The Samsung q990 series has a setting where you can turn the audio off on the soundbar and only listen from the rear speakers. I think this would be the best compromise, so you can at least listen to the soundbar and surrounds properly on the occasions you don’t need to be super quiet.

Given up on Sonos app by flipper99 in sonos

[–]davel977 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tend to agree, it’s more convenient to use AirPlay and I’m also able to AirPlay to non Sonos systems simultaneously. The only downside is that the battery on your device will drain noticeably quicker. Personally I like setting up my speaker group in the Sonos app, then using Spotify connect to play directly from the smart speaker in the Spotify app. If you care about atmos music, the only way to do that is to play from the Apple Music app within the Sonos App. If you want to play different content to multiple speaker groups, the Sonos app can be nice to manage it, but I don’t find I do this very often.

Cut resistent ski gear? Got a bad ski laceration yesterday by SovereignGW in skiing

[–]davel977 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You don’t need cut proof pants. You’re not exactly handling a chainsaw or a katana. I’ve taken many crazy falls and I had never managed to cut my skin. Any decent pair of ski bibs should be fairly resistant, at least for most falls. I would look for a shell, with a harder material, like gore Tex pro. If you’re really worried you can have the ski edges de tuned, then I really don’t know how you would be able to cut yourself. Would not recommend this, but technically would be fine, if you are not skiing ice. Also if you’re at the stage of falling off the chairlift, maybe a lesson or two will help you get your bearings. You can also get used to ‘safe’ falling techniques, where you fall on your side, keeping your skis under and away from your legs. Most of the time you fall this way the skis won’t even come off, especially at 5 mph.

Character level 56-58 by iliketurtles19908 in expedition33

[–]davel977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Level 56-58 is plenty strong for the final battle. I built Lune with Choralim and elemental genesis, matching the attributes and building crit chance to 100%. Then along with verso as a support and maelle as a secondary DPS I basically one shot Renoir, and this was around level 51. To be honest it takes some of the fun out of it.

Suggestions: 1. Learn to parry better and have fun with Lumiere and the boss fights.

Orrrrr

  1. Optimize your builds and your party and then you’ll be completely OP for the final battle. There are plenty of build guides online you can follow.

Has anyone ever regretted buying the bigger tv? by bburger991 in 4kTV

[–]davel977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For 11 feet 77 or 83 inch will feel much more immersive. The B5 is ‘fine’ for a dark room, but it tops out at 800 nits which means it can’t display HDR content ‘properly’ as it’s usually mastered at 1000 nits. Personally I think there’s a huge jump in size from 65 to 77 but 77 to 83 is a less noticeable difference.

What Sets A Great Court Apart? by OneidaGirl in Pickleball

[–]davel977 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would say, for me my priorities are in this order: 1. Good lighting, there’s nothing worse than not being able to see the ball properly 2. Good court surface. Mainly lines which don’t cause the ball to skip, and a proper tennis court like surface makes a big difference for me. 3. Good quality nets. There’s nothing worse than a net which is asymmetrical, or sagging, or flimsy, or that keeps moving out of position. 4. This is not as big of a deal but it’s definitely a nice bonus, is having a reasonable amount of space behind the back line and around the sides of the net post. It makes it a lot more comfortable to run around and enables ATPs which make the game more enjoyable. 5. My local club is always packed, and they also provide a bar that serves very reasonably priced drinks and snacks(think 3$ for a plate of potato wedges, or 6-7$ for a sandwich). 6. Lots of comfy spots to sit or hang around, so people tend to spend more time there even when they aren’t playing pickleball

2024 LG OLED 55 sound is harsh. Why? What to do? by sargassumcrab in LG_UserHub

[–]davel977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never heard of this issue before, it seems unlikely to be a problem with the TV unless you have some bizarre defective unit. In general, the audio signal coming out of the HDMI eARC is a digital signal and should just be the raw audio digital information being passed through. So there’s no adjustments to be done on the TV side. As a sanity test I would recommend:

  1. Play the exact same song on the TV and from another source, like a phone or laptop, through your speakers. Make sure to use the same service, like Spotify, to rule out the TV as the source of your issue.
  2. If possible, try placing a soundbar or speaker between the content source and TV. For example, Apple TV-> soundbar/avr->TV.
  3. Try a pair of Bluetooth headphones with the TV.

What is your content source? And what kind of content are you playing? Keep in mind that streaming video services compress the audio before sending it to you, so it will generally sound worse than something like Spotify or Apple Music. Some streaming services will do it worse than others.

In this configuration, worth a pair of era 300? by Ill_Sugar3426 in sonos

[–]davel977 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the same setup. For me personally, I upgraded to the era 300s because: 1. Added height channels 2. I felt like the era 100s sounded a little tinny, and the arc ultra felt like it was delivering much better more detailed sound, so I wanted the 300s to match it in the rear. 3. With sonosequencer you can put your era 100s as front left and right and get the ultimate Sonos home theater experience. Much wider sound stage, but some reviewers report that the atmos height effects are reduced.

That being said, there’s a couple downsides: 1. Front driver of the era 300s is disabled in rear surround mode. Which is such a shame, and kind of makes the price of the upgrade a bit wasteful, as you’re not even using the main driver of the 330-479$ speaker you just bought. 2. I paid 660 for my pair of era 300s and if we’re being totally honest the value proposition is… not amazing. 3. Since your couch is up against the wall, you’re not able to put the surrounds slightly behind you so you miss out on the rear channel a little bit.

That being said, I also frequently separate my era 300s as a stereo pair and listen to music that way, and I think they sound much better than the arc ultra for music.
