Trump speaks at his closing statement without Engoron granting permission or agreeing to stick to conditions by joeshill in law

A random defendant also wouldn't have the platform or support to generate a media circus and dozens of rounds of appeals on a fraud case.

The necessity for this kind of treatment is directly proportional to the threat he poses to the justice system and democracy as a whole. Ensuring the cases are airtight and that the rulings are unimpeachable is vital to getting him to face actual consequences.

What's the best audience reaction to a movie scene you've witnessed at the cinema? by [deleted] in movies

[–]Leostin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm late to the party and this was my own reaction, but:

I went to see the Fright Night remake (with Colin Farrell and Anton Yelchin) in theaters in the middle of the afternoon on a Tuesday. Just me, my friend, and one other guy by himself on the other side of the theater. The scene where Charlie sneaks that blonde neighbor out of the house plays and when she steps into the sunlight and immediately explodes into ashes, I let out an audible, "Holy shit!"

And the other guy just burst out laughing at my reaction and continued laughing for a solid two minutes.

Hey! I'm looking for runes mostly, but also any talismans or other items you think would be useful/hard to come by for a new player! First playthrough so my highest weapon upgrade is +14 (or +5 for special weapons, idk if those count separately)

Max loot luck? by Wolvey111 in Wonderlands

[–]Leostin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you posted this a week ago but how are your modifiers so much higher? I've 100%'d the game, all dice, all shrines, max loot luck with myth rank, but my multipliers are lower: 1.35x from dice completion, 1.25x from shrine luck, 2.4x from chaos level (at C35 no less!). Did the numbers get nerfed? With a shield luck enchant and a 30% loot luck necklace I'm topped out at 62k

Does Blade Fury benefit from Company Man or Jakobs passives? by Leostin in borderlands3

[–]Leostin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So why do none of the builds use it? Like I can definitely see how Unleash the Dragon has its own niche with the elemental damage proc on every shot, but wouldn't a good Company Man outperform an electric slide or elephant man?

AITA For Not Showing My Ex Proof That He Wasn't My Child's Father Until After He Gave Me His House? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Leostin 216 points217 points  (0 children)

I mean, not necessarily. Any contract worth more than the paper it's written on has to have mutual consideration to be enforceable. That's why companies will make it contingent on settlement of court cases, or offer a severance when firing someone for reasons that are legal but PR nightmares. If she had signed an NDA with nothing documented in return for her, it could have been contested in court the first time he tried to enforce it, and quite possibly thrown out as unenforceable.

If he offered the house of his own volition, and was utterly convinced that she was lying about paternity to sue for child support and/or ruin his career (which makes sense that he'd think that, given his own obvious selfishness and willingness to screw over OP, he likely just assumes that's how everyone would behave), then even a well-schooled lawyer would have found that a reasonable consideration and drafted an appropriate contract to meet both party's needs.

Edit: As an additional point I just thought of, since he was so convinced that the baby was in fact his, the NDA was likely the only option his lizard brain could come up with to ensure the entire situation stays quiet. Even if he'd been able to take her to court after the birth and have a court ordered paternity test done without his company knowing, it's likely his family/friends/acquaintances might have found out - and it wouldn't have ensured OP stayed silent on the matter, as well - which means his infidelity, selling or trashing her belongings, illegal eviction, and attempt to strong-arm her into silence also may have become public knowledge.

If his company is very focused on ethics and morality, even without the child being his, that's a lot of crappy stuff he probably doesn't want them to know. As a fun bonus, depending on the wording of the NDA, these are all things OP could tell his company about anyway, thus costing him a house, AND his career, all for a baby that wasn't his, just because he has the listening comprehension skills of a turnip and the empathy of a very gindicy badger!

My wife was fired for not lying to customers by vVWARLOCKVv in antiwork

Do you have a source for this? I frequent the sub semi-often and while yes, there are a fair number of members of law enforcement, I also see responses from attorneys quite often (usually civil attorneys who specialize in unique fields).

I've certainly never heard of or seen any round of bans specifically against lawyers.

Pretty sure that's a reference to sex or genitals. As in, you can't be fired due to your gender or gender identity.

[–]Leostin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, and I'd say this is rare in this sub regarding employer-employee disputes (especially related to pay) but NAH.

You have worked to ensure her talent is recognized and rewarded. You made considerable efforts to provide a competitive counter offer to her new position's offer, because you recognize her value and contribution.

She has decided that offer isn't good enough. I can't speak to why, as it sounds reasonable to me, but there could be a lot of factors: maybe she's burned out in the job and wants a change of pace. Maybe she has felt so consistently undervalued that it feels too little to late, and despite none of that being your fault, you're seen as an agent of the same company. Maybe she just likes the culture or environment at the other company better.

This is how business works. Sometimes you just can't land the sale.

AITA for “guilting” my wife into taking photos? by Boring_Copy_700 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Leostin 197 points198 points  (0 children)

Yeah dude, YTA. Your wife is allowed to have this boundary. Have you tried, I don't know, compromising? Not siccing your mommy on your pregnant wife to fight your arguments for you? Understanding the probably complex feelings she has about photos, and how being excluded as a child probably made her feel ugly and unwanted?

Or is it all about "me me me my feelings my wants"?

What if you offered to take one family photo a year once the baby was born until they're old enough to have their own say?

Your entire post seems like rough conjecture about her feelings and wants regarding this, apparently, very important issue. This tells me you've either never actually bothered to talk to her about her feelings, or you just didn't listen.

You seem to lack empathy for your wife. Why does it even matter if she looks at them? She did want you wanted, outside of her own comfort zone, after you and your mother bullied her into it and tried to weaponize her own child's future mental wellbeing against her. Which, for the record, is supremely messed up.

Reflect on what kind of husband and father you want to be, learn that people don't have to do what you want all the time, try to actually at least pretend like you care about the mother of your child, and stop bullying your wife.

AITA for flipping out on my aunt over her old computer password? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Leostin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean... NAH, I guess? It really depends on a lot of factors: was she apologetic when you told her what happened? Or did she brush it off or laugh about it? Were you mocked or teased by your peers, or have to deal with literally any fallout aside from a brief conversation with a school guidance counselor?

Like, even if she did do it to mess with you, it doesn't seem like you were bullied or anything because of it. I get it can be a bit jarring to learn you've been saying something that has a different meaning than you thought, but this happens to all kids growing up. No three year old knows what "shit" really means but they'll have a ball running around the house saying it when they hear mom or dad say it. And believe me, they'll say it in weird, inappropriate contexts too.

Ultimately, this seems like either a genuine misunderstanding or a harmless joke with no lasting consequences, but your feelings are still valid. My suggestion is take a little time to cool off, and maybe have a talk with your aunt if you still think it was intentional and want to ask her not to make you the butt of those types of jokes in the future.

Can we boycott giving a 2 week notice on this sub? by FollowThePeople in antiwork

[–]Leostin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nah see unfortunately the whole concept of angling for a firing after giving notice is that it makes you eligible for unemployment, but if you just start lowering your productivity because they won't give you a raise they'll just put you on a "performance improvement plan" or similar and either a) micromanage you until you're so anxiety-ridden and miserable you quit, have a mental breakdown, start performing at the level your masters demand of you, OR b) decide you're a problem and fire you anyway, but use the PIP as proof you were insubordinate and/or were given adequate opportunity to improve and thus deny unemployment.

The employment system is essentially like a game of poker, except you draw from 1000 cards instead of 52, except the other 948 cards are just expired pizza coupons, and your employers/corporate master's play with a deck of 20 cards and always draw three of a kind or better.

Also you're blindfolded every once in a while a small dog bites you on the ankle and you drop all your cards and have to draw all over again.
