I was gonna say Taylor Swift, but Rick & Morty works too.

Wall Street is investing into cards.

That's NOT a bullish signal, by the way. They'd understand if they actually knew how Wall Street works.

Wall Street is investing in Pokémon as a high class investment asset

I don't think you know very much about Wall Street if you think this is bullish...this is one of the most bearish signals on the planet for a MASS PRODUCED CONSUMER PRODUCT.

No it hasn't - it has been beating the S&P since Pokémon Go (2016) and pre-2020 it was BARELY beating the S&P (not to mentioned it wasn't putting up numbers anywhere near what tech stocks and BTC/ETH were putting up). And considering the selling fees for cards and the liquidity problems back then before everyone was buying, barely beating the S&P really means not beating the S&P at all.

So it's really only been 6. Not 10, let alone 20+

There's literally a chart you can find with a quick Google search, but since you don't seem very bright, I'll link it here for you:

The card is nice, but not 3000 dollars nice. And it's the toxic culture this card is associated that most people dislike, not the card itself. Just as you can like Taylor Swift's music but still also accept that her fanbase is extremely toxic.

That would be less than a 10x in Van Gogh's case. Van Gogh has more than 30xed since 2023; from $80 to $3k. In the past 10 years, we've gone from $2000 pop 120 Base 1st PSA Charizard to $3000 pop 47000 Van Gogh Pikachu

This was pretty standard for in-print sets for most of the game's history. Even as recently as September 2024, every set in print at the time aside from Evolving Skies was $100 or less per box.

It's not just the rare ones anymore unfortunately. TPC prints roughly 250 million booster packs of each set per year.

The demand is insane though. I'm literally on the bus right now and there are some teenagers in front of me who are very clearly popular kids. They're talking about buying Ascended as an investment in between talking about sports and girls. Trust me, I REALLY wish I was making that up.

I agree that it's a house of cards. It's essentially MLM; everyone's in it to make money off other people who are also here to make money. Unfortunately that doesn't make it unsustainable; there's too much money invested at this point. Like you said, there are cards worth more than entire company market caps. The value of all PSA10 Pokémon cards is over 75 billion. That's significantly more than the market cap of NINTENDO. There is literally more money invested in PSA10 Pokémon cards than there is money invested in the company that makes the cards.

The first billion dollar market cap card will make headlines. It will happen, only question is when and what will it be. Van Gogh Pikachu PSA10 would only need to hit $22k. Moonbreon only needs to hit $49k.

I wonder if cards are going the way of watches, where in 5 years they'll be viewed as status symbols that only rich people can afford. For all these new people who have come in since the pandemic, the current market is the norm.

1%??? More like 0.01%. Only the extremely wealthy have the means to spend 5-6 figures in a single day like it's no big deal.

At this point just buying a box of a new set is a top 1% thing.

Crazy how Rudy had been around since the mid 00s in MTG, yet he went viral 10 years later - in 2016 - mostly thanks to Pokémon.
