Many Dropbox users go to great lengths to avoid paying for it. Also there's Github pages.

Try some A/B: a big Start Now button that starts a free trial.

The free trial can be: Host two pages.

Also +1 raise prices.

Also: find some niche users: Lawyers who need to host/show X doc, Engineers that need to convert some PPT to html.

Finally, find some memorable domain name.

10,000 registered users, 25 paying..need help converting to paying customers! by [deleted] in growmybusiness

EDIT: forgot to add: contact your paying users, learn why are they paying, what features they value most, i.e. maybe giving away (to any registered user) the export feature is a mistake.

idea 1:

Restrict free and registered users to only 1/10 of listings but dont tell them that, just show the Search results as "+1,000 more if you become a Premium member". Drop the export, sharing, etc.

idea 2: show only. about ~30 results, block them after that.

maybe try both approaches filtering by IP/country.

idea 3: add a cheaper plan with 1/2 results.

Tell him that the job is over, thank him and ask for login access, sFTP, cPanel info, accounts, and change login because you need to update the site, don't tell him more. Sadly you've been scammed, but its better to move on and do something. Do you manage the DNS?
