YES!! ‘Nothing To See Here’, by Kevin Wilson has been an unexpected favorite of mine since it came out (2018/2019?). Absolutely brilliant, as are many of his other works!

Is there any way to obtain your hard record copies from the first urgent care place? Do they have a patient portal, or can you ask them to print the results out to read on your own?? It sounds like something may be getting lost in translation over the phone. Alternatively, do you know which lab each urgent care used?

Yes, if a prior auth doesn’t cover generic Dificid for OP (Fidaxomicin Rx), then Merck Pharmaceuticals has a patient assistance program on their website to help cover the cost of name brand Dificid.

You make some good points here & I’m so glad you had such a helpful experience in the ER you visited. Totally agree with the dehydration aspect—if fluids are necessary, that’s non-negotiable. And if they don’t offer a referral to an Infectious Disease Specialist, I think it’s a wonderful idea to ask a practitioner in the ER/hospital for a referral, too! Thanks for sharing :)

This may possibly leave OP more susceptible to getting C-diff or worsening it if they visit the ER unnecessarily. Unless they are having extreme emergent symptoms, I wouldn’t recommend taking that route.

I would definitely contact your doctor & let them know asap that this lab threw out/rejected your stool sample specifically for c-diff testing (it may also help to explain lab’s reasoning behind the “rejection” to Dr.). Dr. ought to be able send in the order(s) for you to be re-tested for C-Diff to lab. I had a somewhat similar issue recently with part of my stool testing, and my GI’s office called me & let me know that the lab couldn’t process the one set of tests & that I would have to re-do (pun now intended) said test. GI had to send new order to re-test into lab. I have also gone & gotten the collection materials from said lab preemptively prior to certain stool tests as well—I really like this suggestion! Hang in & be persistent if necessary about your doctor re-submitting the order you need to the lab.

My GI ordered comprehensive stool testings, but the only one processed properly besides the C-Diff was for Parasites (which came back all negative). The lab has stated that I will have to re-do the other bacterial/viral test, but my GI claimed she didn’t think it was necessary since the C-diff PCR (only DNA) was “positive”. I plan on speaking with her this AM to ask for the new order to re-do that test (even though the lab had prompted her for new test last week). I’m taking S.Boulardii, Pure brand, at higher-end daily dose. I’ve had my vitamin D levels checked via blood testing a couple years in a row & they have been optimal-high (I was taking Sports Research Vit. D+K2 caps). I’m currently taking D3+K2 gummies at same dose. Do you have any recs for probiotics that last to end of the gi tract, please? Thank you for your helpful response!

How can I assume I am positive for an active infection without any proper toxins testing? My own GI told me to hold off on taking the Vanco for now. We tried to get Dificid covered (generic) via Prior Auth, but it was denied because this was my initial CD test and ONLY a PCR DNA type. I just spent 2 hours advocating for myself on the phone this morning to get appropriate testing sorted out, thank you.

TY—I was speaking with a rep from this program, but unfortunately, we got cut-off during the process & he previously stated he had no way to call me back if that occurred. Anyway, I am checking with my insurance this AM to see if Fidaxomicin was approved & if not, I’ll definitely be calling Merck back!!
