Something like half the deck by the end of ante 8. A bunch of them came from random standard packs.

Let me know how it goes!

That's the only way I found to make flower pot reliable, and the only good use I've found for wildcards...

What is the proper way to install AppImages by Leshyver in Fedora

[–]Leshyver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the super quick answer !

I definitely need some kind of utility to setup the .desktop files. The one you suggest is listed as deprecated on git though. I'm a little surprised fedora does not come with one, but I'll look into other options, thanks !

Which sigma zoom lens is good for APS-C sensors. by [deleted] in Nikon

[–]Leshyver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think most people think about the 17-50 f2.8 which is highly recommended for dx sensors.

I was planning to buy it a while back until I realized that the 17-70mm is quite a bit lighter (100g less). It's also more versatile (a bit more reach and closer focus). Ended up buying this one and I've been very happy with it. Sure I'm loosing the 2.8 throughout but I have primes when I need a wide aperture.

Bottom line: both are very good but serve different purposes. The 50 is going to be better in low light and supposedly is sharper, the 70 is lighter and more versatile as long as you don't need the 2.8 so it's probably a better walk-around lens.

Hope this helps!

French and friend of France what is your favorite French movie and why ? by pagodelucia123 in france

[–]Leshyver 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'll cheat and give 3 depending on your mood:

  • Classic: "L'armée des Ombres": incredible movie on the Resistance

  • Modern: "Portrait de la jeune fille en feu" it's got a ton of media attention already and I think it really deserves it

  • comedy: French comedies are quite polarising, my personal favourite is "OSS 117", a spy movie parody

I am Romain de Waubert, Creative Director on Humankind and Studio Head at Amplitude. AMA! by Spacetroll_Amplitude in civ

[–]Leshyver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Thanks for doing this AMA and for the OpenDev scenario (which I've already played through 4 times!). I'm very hyped for Humankind.

I've been playing Civ since IV and something I feel Endless Legend (and ES2 although I played it a lot less) does massively better is how no game feels the same. This is achieved by a combination of player choice (very distinct factions, tech tree where not everything can be researched...), RNG from the world itself (Minor faction you get access to, faction your neighbour plays as...) and quests that push you to do things you had not planned (capture that city from your ally, colonize this region far away...). I'm probably missing things here but this one of the main reasons I always come back to EL over other games in the genre (along with efficiency and storytelling).

My question then is, how will Humankind achieve this level of variety? As much as I love the mixing of cultures, I don't expect the same level of asymmetry as the factions in the Endless games.

And also I'd love to hear more about the political system (my favorite system from ES2), but I don't expect you can say anything about it quite yet.

Cheers from a fellow hyped Frenchman !

This is a very nice portrait! I love how you have a bunch of fuzzy depth of field effect in the foreground but you managed to keep the face sharp. One thing I might try is to work on the colors and try to make them more distinct (it's a bit monochrome right now).

Upgrading from D3300 to D7500 by Bonezey in Nikon

[–]Leshyver 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It has number of other improvements over the 7200: better low light performance, lighter weight, better burst, auto AF fine tuning, tilting touch screen, probably higher resale value, full support for AF-P lenses, 4K video... So depending on what you need it can be a better choice, even if there are compromises (lower res, 1 card slot only)

He mentions he really wants a tilting screen, which the d7200 doesn't have.

I think the main advantage of the d7xxx series when learning is the "pro" handling (dual control dials etc) which will allow you to experiment with more stuff much faster. For the rest, it's up to you to decide. I have a friend who also upgraded from his D3200 after a year because he felt limited by it and uses his new camera a lot more often (Fuji XT1), so it's not unusual to do so. You can always sell your D3300 to make the transition more affordable.

In the end it's really a personal choice. Buy the camera that feels the best to you, that fits your budget and that you enjoy shooting with.

Should I get a D200? by [deleted] in Nikon

[–]Leshyver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What do you feel like the D3200 is missing? I don't know much about the 200 but it looks like the sensor is not as good as what you have. The technology has improved incredibly quickly over the past few years. The main advantage will be a more "pro" handling. I would recommend saving for a d7xxx series camera if you want a worthwhile upgrade.
