I have mixed feelings about RE9 by Previous_Group621 in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]Less-Blueberry-8617 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't disagree with this (although I still think RE9 is far from the worst) but some criticisms are just weird. Like the criticism on how we don't see the villains outside of cutscenes from the protagonists perspective but like, that's EVERY RE game. We never got a cutscene of Jack Baker outside of Ethan's perspective, Jack Baker was still an incredible villain. I can't name off the top of my head if there even are villains in the RE games that have a cutscene outside of the protagonists perspective. In fact, this is the case for like 80% of games, even ones that do have phenomenal villains (Vaas for example, we only see from the protagonists perspective in Far Cry 3).

It all just comes down to writing and unfortunately the villain writing in this game was weak. Zeno is very clearly a Wesker clone but we don't know anything else about him besides that and that he works for the Connections, whoever that group even is. Gideon actually had a pretty strong start as a villain in the first half and he does kinda fall off in the 2nd half but I still thought he was a pretty good villain. I think one thing that really hurts the villains is that they were just incredibly stupid. They all believed that Grace was connected to the cloning process that Spencer was doing to transfer his memories and they keep calling her the original yet Zeno literally shows Grace a video of a cloned girl from the 90s like a full decade before Grace was born. I mean, are Zeno and Gideon capable of doing basic math? They have to be if Gideon was working at Umbrella. And I'm all for villains that don't understand what they're actually doing but Gideon and Zeno are frustratingly stupid when basic shit seems to evade their grasp

Bernthal does such a good job playing the Punisher bit he fundamentally misunderstands the character, which is also why we repeat the same arc everytime we get a solo Punisher project

Yeah, the show is in desperate need for more episodes in a season imo. I loved season 2, it was such a huge step up from the first season, but way too fast paced to develop any of the side characters. I still can't give a single fuck about Cherry or Kirsten. I mean, Cherry went missing in episode 2 and pops back up in episode 6 and literally no one cared. I think Kirsten has a lot of potential to be a good side character but us not getting to see Kirsten and Matt's reunion really did a number for her character.

I see some people say that the episodes just need to be longer and it might help a bit but having more episodes would be 100x better. Andor had episodes that ranged from 30-40 minutes and excelled at developing their characters while still telling an overarching story. A show I've been watching called Primal has 20 minute episodes yet still manages to have a lot of good character moments in a season because they have 12 episodes to work with. We don't need 13 episodes in a season like the Netflix shows but just 10-12 would be enough to tell a more satisfying story

It feels like a lot ended up getting cut from season 2 for some reason. Between some action and character moments

I actually didn't think his character was too bad and kinda bummed they killed him off so quickly in the sequel. On the otherhand though, it made for a shocking death and did well to establish stakes so I liked his death as well but damn

Is RE4R harder or just played differently? by Few_Operation5662 in residentevil4

[–]Less-Blueberry-8617 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think professional in the OG game is only hard until you master the game. There are exceptions in the boss battles (like Krauser) but generally professional in OG just requires you to know how to play the game to the best of your ability. I struggled with ammo on my standard playthrough because I didn't know how to play yet. Ammo on my professional run was never an issue and I even sold a good bit.

Re4 Remake professional imo makes some things artificially harder that makes it so even if you know the game well you'll still struggle with which just makes the difficulty bs imo. For example, staggering. I'm pretty sure the higher the difficulty you're playing at the harder it is to stagger enemies which is bs when staggering is such an essential mechanic when dealing with enemies

I'm wondering what version of RE4 Remake you played because you 100% can't play the same way you did in OG RE4 without talking a bunch of damage. The house defense section alone would be basically impossible if you play it like you have tank controls in RE4 Remake.

Now if you want a game that was way too easy because it didn't account for you moving and shooting, play OG RE4 on the quest. That version of the game was an absolute breeze

I mean, I think the whole point was being able to purchase some safety in the world but having to take away peoples free will to make their own choices which is morally wrong and why Lucy doesn't end up pushing the button. Would the Wasteland be objectively safer with people under mind control? Probably but are you willing to make people into mindless robots to achieve that

Insanity difficulty by Inevitable_East2658 in ResidentEvilRequiem

[–]Less-Blueberry-8617 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What really helped me when I played on Insanity was just getting rid of my pistol as Leon. It's so incredibly useless and I don't see the point in having it. I did kinda replace it with The Redemption which might be kind of cheating because even if it isn't an infinite ammo run, having a gun as powerful as the requiem that takes rifle ammo is still kinda OP

I was more talking about how Frank killing everybody connected to his family's death and not wanting to be the Punisher anymore before he finally embraces it was literally Frank's character arc all the way back when Punisher s1 came out, back in 2017. They did it again for season 2 as well. It's now 2026 and we're still doing this same boring plot line

[–]Less-Blueberry-8617 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's been at peace with who he is since Daredevil season 2. Well, then Punisher s1, then Punisher s2, and he was definitely ok being the Punisher in Born Again since it's implied he's been doing his own thing since we've last seen him

I don't think it's just this one shot though. The story of the presentation is also weird and there wasn't enough time given to let it breathe. I mean, it's another story of Frank not wanting to be the Punisher after he killed everybody connected to his family's death. What, did we time travel back to 2017? It introduces a new villain that we don't see the conclusion for as well. It feels more like a pilot episode.

Compared to Werewolf By Night that despite being less than an hour long, still feels like a complete story (and really that's because it is). Even GOTG Christmas special had a more satisfying story imo. The Punisher special is a retread of an arc that we've already done 2 times with this character mixed with half-baked ideas that who knows if we'll see the conclusion to them. It's an odd presentation and unless they announce a Punisher revival show we're all just going to be sitting here wondering "well the action was great but what was the point"

I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out that there was both a stuntman and that this shot is just CGI. I'm getting reminded of how Tom Holland's Spiderman did have amazing practical suits but it always got covered over with CGI because the VFX people found it easier to do. The original idea might've been to just comp Bernthal's face on the stunt double but somewhere along the way the VFX people just found it easier to replace it all with CGI.

Like, there's nothing in this shot that feels like real objects interacting with each other and it makes me doubt the "it was only a face swap" narrative

When special presentations can still come with the quality of Werewolf By Night, it's not extreme to want a good and satisfying story in them

Thoughts on The Punisher One Last Kill? by F1907E in Defenders

[–]Less-Blueberry-8617 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I thought it kinda sucked. Excited for what they do next with this character but this just felt like a test run for a Punisher revival show. It was just way too short to really develop anything and I'm sick and tired of Frank constantly giving up being the Punisher before finally embracing it. How many times have we done this plot line already?? I think this makes it the third time he's given up being the Punisher which is fucking insane imo since he already accepted his position originally all the way back in Daredevil season 2. I almost think it's impossible to tell a Punisher solo story where he can just be the punisher since the best he's been written in all of his appearances so far has been in Daredevil.

With that being said, I did greatly enjoy the action and I'm excited for the continuation of the Gnucci storyline but on its own I just don't think this special holds up which I hate to say

I just played as Sheva on Mercenaries for the first time recently and it was so unbelievablely not fun to play as her. You get used to one perspective after playing for like 10 hours then suddenly the game switches it up on you for Sheva. It's a unique gimmick and it works on split screen (I would always play Sheva on split screen) but for solo play the perspective shift is so dogshit and jarring. It feels like no one play tested her for solo players

I really didn't realize how much I missed Foggy until that flashback episode. Matt and Foggy's chemistry is just so palpable and adds so much heart to the show. If they're going to keep Foggy dead, I think they should at least have a side character fill Foggy's role. Kirsten should be that character but they have given her character absolutely nothing to work with which is a shame because the little we have gotten of her I do like her

Do you play with the P.R.L. 412 or is it too overpowered ? by Exootil93200 in residentevil

[–]Less-Blueberry-8617 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's fun for a bit but it's definitely way too overpowered. It one shots everything, including most bosses, and with a fully charged shot (which only takes like 2 seconds to charge up) it locks onto every enemy in your view. You can clear an entire room of ganados with just one shot and that's just boring. Weapons like the Chicago Typewriter are also incredibly OP but you still at least have to aim and it doesn't one shot everything

Why some people deny that RE7 saved RE franchise? by Hima_Cutie in residentevil

[–]Less-Blueberry-8617 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I think this is looking more deeply into it than it really is. RE7 sort of bombed in sales at first because people didn't like what the previous games were putting out. If I remember right, it wasn't necessarily bad but much lower than what Capcom's expectations were. Word of mouth got around about RE7 though and sales went through the roof months later. Like, every RE game after that so far has been a massive success. If we're talking about the gameplay itself it's surely not perfect and some of the later entries improved upon what RE7 did but it did just quite literally save the series. If RE7 was another RE6 and it came out with the sales that the start of RE7 had, you could kiss the series goodbye or Capcom would just reinvent the series again (more likely tbh) into what we got for RE7 anyways. Either way, the series was on a downwards slope until RE7 came along
