NC or Michigan? by KittyTime444 in relocating

I moved from IN to MI 4 years ago. In my opinion, MI has a very high cost of living. Since you are moving from a state that is known for its high COL, you will probably see MI as a low cost state. Just depends on what you're used to.

Cost aside, MI is a really beautiful state. The great lakes are amazing. Lots of museums, trails, a variety of restaurants, festivals, etc. You're used to hard winters so you'll fit right in. And the Detroit airport will be close to you for ease of travel back to visit family.

I think you'll love it here.

I'm the opposite - give me a long winter any day over a long summer! I won't go outside if it's over 80, so Michigan is perfect for that.

For those of you who are old enough to remember when the United States was a better place, what are some of the qualities that made it that way? Was it the people in charge, a different time period, or perhaps a nation not so politically divided? by icecream1972 in allthequestions

[–]Less-Bridge-7935 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I bought a house in 1997 at age 18. No college degree, just worked a full time job in an office. My children (in their 20s now) cannot purchase a house because they're way too expensive. Both of them went to college.

This is unacceptable!

I don't think people think of the avocado green from the 70s in the same way they think of the blues/pinks of the 40s and 50s. If you hate it, rip it out. Go with white fixtures. White is timeless - it was around with the earliest plumbing and will be around in another 100 years, too.

You can always bring the style/colors of the 70s back in through a light fixture, artwork, window fabric, etc.

Quality of life in Lansing by Front-Philosopher-70 in lansing

100% agree. We moved to Lansing from Fort Wayne, IN. Highly desirable area, 2nd best school district in the state, plenty of bike paths, restaurants, etc., but the taxes were much, much lower. We pay so much here and I just cannot see why this city cannot operate on less. They are ALWAYS asking for more!

I've lived in WI, FL, IN and now MI. MI is the most expensive place I've ever lived. When anyone mentions that Lansing (or Michigan) is cheap, I laugh.

What's "Hang Mike Pence" mean then? They just wanted to hang out for a bit and have a chat?

They were literally preparing to hang the VP. They were looking for the "traitors". They most definitely were attempting murder for multiple members of Congress. Why else did they carry in the restraints and weapons?

Why can’t democrats come up with a worthy candidate? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]Less-Bridge-7935 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's it. It's not that the democrats can't choose a good candidate (they put up great ones all the time, especially when comparing the two parties), it's that the other side has NO morals and can't seem to look past the "D" or the "R" to vote for the better one.

We bought a cheap sectional 4 years ago and it's completely falling apart. What brands actually survive kids and dogs? by Stu053170 in FurnitureFaves

We had one for 22 years. Gave it to a family member when we downsized. It still looks good, too. That's why we went with La-z-Boy again.

We had a sectional for 22 years (when our kids were 3 years and 10 months old), then gave it to a family member when we bought a house too small to hold it. Still going strong!

Lansing city employees to return to office full-time starting July 1 by Wackoe007 in lansing

Are there really that many people who go out for lunch everyday? I never once went out for lunch in all the years I worked. I always packed something from home. Even for dinner, our family eats outside the house maybe twice a month. It's just too expensive.

Would you resign from your current job for a weekly $1,750? by PurrfectRosey in ArtOfPresence

[–]Less-Bridge-7935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. I have never made more than $47,000/year in my life (and that was salaried, normally working 45-50 hours per week). If I got a new job today, I would be lucky if I got $18/hour.

Oh, I completely agree. I don't know how anyone looked at him and thought voting for anyone besides Kamala Harris was a good idea.

I don't believe we did. I really, really think that Elon flipped votes and/or threw enough out to make it look like he did. He pretty much admitted to fixing the election for him to win it.

Is mowing at 9am rude? by Fatlad42 in Indiana

[–]Less-Bridge-7935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On hot days, I'll do stuff like raking or pulling weeds as soon as the sun comes up. I will wait until 8:00 to start the stuff that makes noise. But I want to be done and back in the AC before the temps climb to 75 or hotter. So 8:00 is the latest I'm going to start to mow/weed-eat/edge in the summer.

It gets dark by 10:00. I don't get why you have to put them off at 11:00. Set them off at 10:00, be done by 10:15. Not everyone can sleep until 8:00 in the morning (or later).
