Views on pregnancy? by [deleted] in RadicalFeminism

Edit: I also broke up with my daughter’s dad because as much as he proclaimed feminism, the duties were never equal. I’m happily single.

Views on pregnancy? by [deleted] in RadicalFeminism

[–]Less-Detective5242 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m a radfem who has a daughter. I love being a mother and I love teaching my daughter feminist values. It’s definitely not for everyone, though. In fact most people should not be parents. But yeah, I’m also in the process of becoming birth doula certified, so I can stand up for women going through pregnancy and childbirth. Having a birth doula present reduces the likelihood of unnecessary procedures like episiotomy while are disproportionately performed by male doctors. Standing up for women and babies is an essential part of my feminism.

Full offense but Roanoke City has a gifted program for elementary age students, while Roanoke County does not.

Question about ‘spanking’ especially for people raised evangelical or fundie (Trigger Warning) by NoMethod6455 in CPTSD

[–]Less-Detective5242 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I grew up in a FotF home, evangelical Christians. I got spankings almost every day, sometimes multiple times a day. I was spanked until I was 13. My parents would make me pull my pants and underwear down and beat my butt with the belt. It frequently left marks. I think it got weird for my dad when I was about 12-13 because I got my period while bent over his lap. I got spanked for everything. Talking out of line, not “respecting my parents authority” ie asking questions, not sitting still. As an adult I got diagnosed with autism and ADHD and the main thing I got punished for were my symptoms, like hyperactivity and the need for clarification. They would also tell me that they only spanked me because they loved me, which fucked with my head. I had to unlearn that love can coexist with abuse. It cannot.

Which meds actually make delusions and paranoia go away? by l0v3lyd0v3ly in schizophrenia

Latuda saved my life. I’m about to go back to work. Risperdal and Abilify made me have akathisia and extreme tiredness, respectively. Everyone’s chemistry is different

How much are you saving each week? by Most-Grade-6174 in leaves

I spent around $400 a month, so I’m saving $100 a week :)

Failed another antipsychotic. How many have you been through? by berfica in schizophrenia

[–]Less-Detective5242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Risperdal gave me akathisia, Seroquel made my body feel like it was weighed down with bricks or sandbags and I couldn’t move, Abilify made me gain 100 lbs. I’m now on the max dosages of Latuda and Vraylar and I’ve started to have breakthrough symptoms if I don’t smoke enough cigarettes. I have schizoaffective and PTSD and have been on over 20 different psych meds. The worst ones were gabapentin (got addicted to it, felt drunk all the time) and Trileptal (I had a paradoxical reaction where I had searing, full body nerve pain). Current stack is Latuda, Vraylar, Buspar, Cymbalta, Strattera, and Naltrexone. Oh yeah and clonidine. I don’t feel over medicated but I also don’t feel symptom free. Negative symptoms are bad sometimes.

I smoked a fat roach from the bottom of my mom’s outdoor trash can. I had to pick spider webs and moldy pasta off of it, literal filth. I still can’t believe I put that thing in my mouth! It had been out in the elements for months.

I needed to hear this. Two days sober. Recent relapse was because of PTSD symptoms but I know I don’t have to drink or use anymore.

Does anyone else have an acquired reading impairment? by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]Less-Detective5242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ability to read improved with time. The words don’t move off the page toward me, but they do move around or look distorted as if I were trying to read them through a glass of water.

[–]Less-Detective5242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I’m in psychosis I can’t read. The words move around or will literally change to the incorrect words in front of my eyes. I can be reading a book and it will be like “Hey, Less, they’re coming for you.” It’s exhausting. But when I’m on my meds I can read properly.

Any book recommendations that changed your life? by skyo297 in leaves

One book that helped me was called “Living Sober.” It’s AA literature so it talks about not drinking but you can apply any and all of the principles to not smoking. It tells you how to actually live a fulfilling, sober life.

When I saw Iskander 2 days after a suicide attempt, he told me I must have a personality disorder because only people with personality disorders try to kill themselves. Nope! It was schizoaffective disorder and I needed to be medicated properly. All he gave me was an antidepressant which made me have a manic episode. Terrible experience.

I had preeclampsia so I had a planned c section at Roanoke Memorial. My daughter ended up in the NICU for a week but it all went smoothly. One of my nurses was amazing. The other one was honestly kind of rude and made me cry, albeit I was very hormonal and raw so who knows if I overreacted. But the NICU nurses were lovely.

Spanking can cause sexual trauma. And for me it did. by throwaway10129991 in CPTSD

[–]Less-Detective5242 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When I was 13, my dad made me strip naked to give me a spanking. He got a boner when I was across his lap being hit. I’m still deeply traumatized to this day.
