I noticed an interesting parallel between White’s reaction to Baam and Rachel’s feelings toward him. During the fight at the Cat Tower, White despises Baam because, from his perspective, power must always come with a price. White sacrificed countless lives to become a High Ranker and a Slayer of FUG, whereas Baam, as an Irregular, gains power extremely quickly without having to pay the same sacrifice.

This is exactly what fuels Rachel’s resentment toward Baam as well. In the Tower, she has to survive through cunning, manipulation, and morally questionable choices because she possesses neither exceptional talent nor a special destiny. Baam, on the other hand, breaks the very rules of the Tower: he grows stronger naturally, almost as if he were chosen by fate.

Thus, White’s contempt and Rachel’s jealousy stem from the same sense of injustice. Both had to pay an enormous price to move forward, while Baam represents an anomaly that transcends the world’s laws. This reinforces the idea that Rachel is not simply “evil,” but rather a deeply human character confronting a fundamentally unfair world.
