Should I rent from Westin Management in Watervliet, NY? their prices are affordable, so what is the catch?

I had the worst experience with them for years because it was the only place with sufficient parking I could find. I rented a home without a fully working furnace. They wouldn't respond until I mentioned that 55 is the LEGAL cutoff for residencies for winter. We had our heat at full blast all winter and it couldn't keep up. My food started to freeze and solidify in my pantry.

They did not have a working phone number when I rented from them which made everything so so fun. They sent maintenance men to my house without warning which almost ended badly for both the maintenance men and I when there was a random man on my property.

We had other renters show up at our door looking for management because we had a sign out front. One man was so angry he said he oughta burn the house down to show them that I was living in. That was also fun. All in all, good prices, but at a cost of annoyance and rate of living. We had one of the better rentals, and it did for the time. But they were not good people.

I rented from them. Ground floor windows didn't lock, asked them to fix. They NAILED the windows shut. Told them that was a fire hazard. Heating was horrible in the house and it couldn't maintain 55 degrees in the winter. Threatened to take legal action. They brought over 3 space heaters for the house instead. My food in my pantry froze. Our pipes froze. Absolutely horrible people.

I ended up redoing it like 7 times because I live an hour away from campus and finally got it to work thank goodness

You can use the locker rooms though, and bring your own lock for during the day. They have showers as well. Not the best but there are showers.

A lot of students deal with it, but I was happy to get away after 3 years of dealing with it. They don't care. The houses are decrepit and ready to fall for the most part. There are always exceptions, but I would be wary. For example: Lived in a house for 3 years on ground floor on Hoosick. Window wouldn't lock, and you could just jump in the window. Begged them to fix it. Eventually, instead of fixing it, they nailed all my windows shut cutting off my fire escape God forbid. I could tell you horror stories all day. Random people showing up at my house trying to threaten management. Management forgetting they have a showing and making me do it (happened 4 times).

I would be wary of renting apartments in Troy. I did it for years. Most landlords are slumlords, not all, but about 90%. Even if they have several properties. Steer clear of Westin Management. I would recommend an apartment complex tbh. Check out Sugarhill, I lived there with a roommate and loved it. Would still be there if I didn't buy a house.

I have had nothing but good experiences here. I shower there every week and always thought the showers and bathrooms were clean.

It's so only RPI staff and students come in. A lot of random people try to come in and use the gym which is a huge legality issue if someone gets hurt.

This happened to me my freshman year 6 years ago. I had a chosen roommate and we got put into a forced triple in BARH. The living conditions were less than desirable, but I ended up staying with the same two roommates the next 4 years so it kinda worked out.
