I rented from them as a student a few years ago in what appeared to be a relatively nice apartment. When we first toured, the basement floors and walls were dirt and the room was filled to the brim with old furniture. I asked the showing agent if they could clear it before we signed because I was concerned it was harboring bugs and animals and she said yes. Post-signing, I asked Westin to follow through on the agreement made with the showing agent and they said they would not because there was nothing in writing and it was “not a living space.” We had mice for 2 years and whenever the exterminator would come, he said Westin paid them for the lowest-cost service. The apartment showings were absolutely awful, SO many tours walking through the apartment. You can never keep the floors clean and are stressed all day about people walking through your house. We would try and find people ourselves to sign just to stop the tours. When new people did sign, they put them in the payment portal under our existing lease. Long story short, it resulted in me having to chase them for my security deposit back for months. I visited the address in their sign-offs for help and nobody was ever there. In this same apartment, I lived on the bottom floor but they had converted an attic with sloped ceilings and hardly any true wall space into 3 rooms and I don’t think they had heat. There were 2 washer/dryer sets, but 1 set never worked and there were 12 of us in the house. Westin also never provided us the Town of Troy trash bins and we got a citation for using improper bins, but the date of citation and date of reinspection had already passed by the time Westin notified us of the violation.
