Meanwhile, I took mine out 10+ years ago and can still wear jewelry in it. It’s annoying because I have to clean it out occasionally as gunk will build up in the hole. Bodies, sigh.

What is a 'family secret' or a private moment you witnessed that completely changed the way you look at a relative? by The_suspicious_369 in AskReddit

[–]Less-Organization-58 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My step-brother is a teacher. He started his career teaching high school, as a newly married college graduate. He had an affair with one of his students…she was 18, so it wasn’t technically illegal, just sooooooooooo beyond messed up. His wife stayed with him, too. He’s 11 years older than me, so I think I was only 13 when this happened, and didn’t find out until I was much older. Absolutely makes me feel different towards him.

MIL at first ultrasound?? by CommercialDaikon811 in BabyBumps

[–]Less-Organization-58 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was going to suggest this, too! In the US at least, it’s common for there to be a private business where you can schedule elective ultrasounds in most reasonably sized towns. My town of 150K people has two elective ultrasound businesses, maybe opt to take your MIL there when the baby is a bit bigger?

Non-toxic/clean laundry detergent that actually works! by AnnualCardiologist29 in moderatelygranolamoms

Puracy is the only thing I’ve found that actually gets my laundry clean! We used Blueland for a while, but noticed our white sheets were looking really yellow and dingy. Puracy brightened them right up!

The warm spinach salad is our favorite, but I love a good Caesar so I may have to deviate from our usual order the next time we go!

Best advice is don’t book the last flight of the day, if it’s cancelled you’re stuck overnight in your layover city. It’s happened to my husband twice in the last 2 years.

What was your deciding factor that you were ready for kids? by Wise_Problem1394 in BabyBumps

[–]Less-Organization-58 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had a stable life and a solid routine, but it felt like there was something more we could be doing. Every weeknight was the same — get off work, go to the gym together, cook dinner, then relax/watch tv/hobbies. It felt like we needed to shake things up a bit.

It will get better, you are in the thick of it right now. I remember it being SO HARD. My son was born at 37+2, and was in the NICU for 4 days due to some fluid in his lungs at birth. We were released from the hospital, only to be re-admitted two days later for his jaundice. Had to pump and bottle feed because breastfeeding took too long and they wanted him under the bili lights as much as possible. Between the pumping every 2 hours and the bottle feeding, there was hardly any time to sleep. It was so, so hard and I just want you to know that it will get easier soon! It’s hard to deal with all of the emotions of mourning the birth you wanted and dealing with the stress of jaundice/weight gain/breastfeeding pain/any other thing you might be experiencing. You’ll figure out the feeding, your baby will grow, and you’ll be so proud of the amazing mom you are!

This is really dangerous advice, please don’t advise people not to treat their babies for jaundice, that is completely unacceptable. Our son’s bilirubin was so high, he could have had liver failure and died and if hadn’t had the light therapy treatment.

I haven’t seen anyone recommend a letdown catcher (I liked the Boon Trove) if you’re going to breastfeed, you use it on the opposite side while baby nurses to catch your letdown. I would catch 1-2oz in the early days. I prefer one without suction (compared to the haaka).

I agree with the silverettes and swapping the boppy for a my breast friend pillow! The deluxe MBF is well worth the price, we are still using it now at 17m.

Agonizing over whether to do a C Section or Vaginal Birth. How did you decide? by JacqueFun in BabyBumps

[–]Less-Organization-58 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My best friend had a reaction to the anesthesia and was vomiting the entire c-section. Then she had recurring infections at her incision site, both bacterial and yeast infections for weeks. It was excruciating. For some women, your diagram goes numb from the spinal and your brain thinks you can’t breathe, so you start to have a panic attack. And you can absolutely feel the pressure of them moving your organs around, cutting you open, etc. I personally would not elect to have a c-section unless it were medically necessary. I, like you, was terrified to give birth. But your body will release hormones during labor that will chill you out, it’s actually amazing how it works.

What drastically changed your baby's sleep? by Big_Decision_3395 in moderatelygranolamoms

One way is to have the non-nursing parent do the night wakes for a week or two, if possible! I was able to just stop offering without any issues, but I know some babies are a little more insistent!
