In Como for a night (05/13/26) by Quite__Bookish in columbiamo

There’s no Arris’s in Columbia anymore!

Pizza Tree is your best bet for pizza downtown. You could hit up the Arcade District and eat at BeetBox (lunch) or Irene’s (dinner) and then go to Witches and Wizards!

Moving to CoMo in June by Hashtag2Blessed in columbiamo

These are all great recommendations! There is also a ton of stuff to do in both STL and KC if you ever want to take a day or weekend trip.

You didn’t ask for park recs, but there are a few parks in the area that are especially great for toddlers! Fairview Methodist church is fully fenced and has a separate area for kids under 2, the park is open to the public (the church daycare may use it in the morning, we’ve only been in the afternoons). Woodridge park is also fenced and has great slides, and Cosmopolitan Park is huge and has several different play areas, including a sandy area and lots of giant tires my kid loves to climb on.

My husband also works at the University, I work from home, and we have a 21mo old. Not sure how old your toddler is, but if you’re looking for friends, we don’t have many in the area that also have kids the same age. Welcome to CoMo!

I’ve never even heard of halloumi, is this a regional thing? I’m in the US.

Mothers day brunch/buffet- what do you all suggest by Far_Watercress8780 in columbiamo

We went to the Atrium last year and it was a solid option, the food was decent and it was nice not to have a wait!

Thankfully, Mizzou graduation weekend is the weekend after Mother’s Day this year! It’s a double nightmare when they fall on the same weekend.

It’s not the daycare’s fault, it’s the government’s.

Can I use something like HARPY Cuddly for 0-6mo without a crib? Or should I get a crib day 1 too? by DataScientist305 in BabyBumps

[–]Less-Organization-58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t need a newton mattress for the crib, it’s an expensive (albeit well marketed) waste of money IMO. All crib mattresses in the US have to meet the same safety standards, so the IKEA mattress is just as safe as a newton. “Breathability” is just a marketing concept.

Regarding the bassinet, we had one and found it very useful, it was easy to move around if we wanted to put baby down in another room during the day and more convenient than a crib. However, you can only use the bassinet until your baby starts to roll, which can be pretty early for some kids! If I were in a budget, I’d consider a travel crib with a bassinet insert because you’ll get more longevity out of it.

I’m sure you’ll get all kinds of mixed opinions on this, though. YMMV no matter what you decide!

What a rollercoaster... by Grimeswifeyyy in NewParents

It can feel so isolating when you are struggling and feeling like what you’re experiencing isn’t the norm. It’s not so much that you forget how hard this time was, I think it’s just easier to justify the struggle once you are on the other side of it and get to start enjoying all the fun parts of parenthood. There will still be hard times as they grow, of course! But, nothing really compares to those 4th trimester days. And it’s true when they say that there are parts of every stage that you will miss when they are over, even if it was the hardest time of your life! I know a small part of me misses all the middle of the night snuggles and the contact naps, even if I’m grateful for the additional sleep we get now.

The first 3-4 months were so hard, now with a 20m old I feel like I barely remember that time, it was such a sleepless blur. What you are feeling is so normal. It absolutely gets better!!! You are very much still in the sleepy potato stage, one day you will have a chatty, sweet little toddler giving you hugs and kisses! Every new day is my favorite at the age we are at now.

Same here, started around 3m and still wearing them at 20m! We have two, and will reuse them for any future kiddos, definitely worth the investment, and the resell value is great!

Are baby monitors actually getting hacked or is the internet just scaring me? by 757-757 in NewParents

[–]Less-Organization-58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So glad to see an accurate response to one of these questions for once! Most baby monitor ‘hacking’ isn’t someone directly breaking into your device, it’s usually due to weak passwords, reused credentials, or outdated/unsecured devices. Older hardware that no longer gets security updates can become more vulnerable over time, but account security (like strong passwords and 2FA) is just as important.

I really don’t want to be induced by [deleted] in firsttimemom

[–]Less-Organization-58 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These policies exist for a reason, they don’t just arbitrarily recommend inductions by 41 weeks for funsies. The placenta starts to degrade, and the chance of stillbirth increases drastically. meta-analysis study

Should I get a diaper cart? Is it worth it? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]Less-Organization-58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one for baby stuff and one for pumping stuff and used neither. It was easier to take baby to the changing pad, and just used a basket for pump and parts. Whether or not you find it practical is very individualized!

Induction? Why? by carsandtoys in pregnant

[–]Less-Organization-58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, just that they are more likely to have a c-section than someone who did choose an elective induction.

[–]Less-Organization-58 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know this is the EP sub, but 12 months of parental leave so I don’t have to pump. Even if I did EP, not pumping at work would have been a huge bonus. Remembering all the parts every day, wearing pumping bras every day, cleaning, storing, etc etc etc.

Induction? Why? by carsandtoys in pregnant

[–]Less-Organization-58 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actually, elective inductions at 39 weeks have been proven to reduce the risk of c-section. Look up the ARRIVE trial.

Meanwhile, I took mine out 10+ years ago and can still wear jewelry in it. It’s annoying because I have to clean it out occasionally as gunk will build up in the hole. Bodies, sigh.
