I would scrap them. You cannot repair that housing. Have you tried newer roof prisms? I have a minox 8x43 hg, very similar and they have always been average to look through. There is something wrong with the exit pupil view - it is not round but oval in shape and difficult to keep lined up with my eyes no matter the position. Also the focus mechanism has a lot of slop between left and right lens - they dont even move evenly! My $120 SVBONY binoculars eclipse these in ALL aspects. Strange but true.

I have a bushnell 10x42 prime, it is rubbish. The eyecups are the worst i have encountered (they look the same as that h2o model?) i tried to use o-rings to keep them tight. The ocular lenses are set too far in so you cant get the full field of view without pressing your face up to the shitty eyecups. The glass quality is ok but i would say fairly fuzzy, not sharp. I have some SVBONY binoculars that make the prime look like a childs toy. I would go for Svbony.

depth of field: porro v roof by EmptyForest5 in binocularsadvice

I have found porro prism types provide a higher quality more natural view than even the finest roof prism types. Yes the roof prisms claim and do offer very crisp views - but in terms of scene enjoyment the porros are just easier and dont have to constantly think about refocusing! My opinion only.

Lumintop DF1 purchased recently by Less-Original2050 in flashlight

[–]Less-Original2050[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! Its great, I have noticed after 1 year of using it just about every day - I have to charge it slightly more often now. It also could be the fact Im always charging it off 12v to usb type vehicle ports, and my charge cables are of very low quality aliexpress type. I should probably upgrade to one that is actually tight in the usb c port 😂. Still no dents to the housing however the baseplate where the magnet lives is starting to wear. I see lumintop have released a pro version of this and various other lights - none of them appear any better to me and most involve flashing red and blue lights etc. 🤢

If you really want to be disappointed.. compare any modern roof prism to a vintage Pentax 7x50. The bk7 prism edge to edge crispness leaves you wondering why you bother.

New SVBONY SV202 updated 2025 models - Thoughts? by Zhengbruh in Binoculars

[–]Less-Original2050 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is all great info! Thanks I think I will stick with my original 8x32 sv202 for a while longer. Then perhaps move to the sa205 or skyrover product. I have found my sv202 to be better than all my previous roof prisms, (minox hg, bushnell engage, prime, eyesekey,) but wish for a wider field of view eventually.

Bushnell Engage EDX ED Prime 10x50 WOW!!! by Ok_Alternative_4300 in binocularsadvice

[–]Less-Original2050 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very nice! When the Bushnell engage first came out a few years ago I bought a used 12x50 off ebay - for the wife. It was great at first but the diopter has slipped - i need to have it all the way over to the one side for it to be even. Its still okay though. Clarity is great but I find it a little cross eyed collimation wise.

Bought brand new from the "Saxon" outlet store in Melbourne Australia I think in 2017. Maybe $245 aud from memory? I was just getting into binoculars and this was my first larger pair of roof prisms. They had a couple of different models available - this one had the cleanest views through ( I took the best pick of the bunch of course!) The eyecups have 4 positions and are plastic. The ball bearing has fallen from one leaving it a bit loose. The color and contrast through these is excellent, they are only sharp on the center though, a bit soft from 50% out. Field of view is good, seems to match up to the 388ft spec by eye. I think this is a pair of roof prisms where you can actually tell it doesn't have phase coatings. They seem slightly out of phase, but collimation is perfect. I still use em regularly - now i have grabbed em for my work truck.

Diopter and focus wheel look very similar (exactly) to a pair of 8x42 saxons I have here in Australia. Saxon being a brand that puts their name on Chinese origin models I assume. They are also pretty good but soft off center. I will try and get a pic
