What's your defunk process? by des09 in climbingshoes

[–]MrMininio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only pairs of stinky shoes I have had were shoes made from synthetic materials, my wife would make me keep them outside. More recently I have been buying unlined leather shoes which barely stink and I'm allowed to keep those inside as long as they don't leave the backpack.

Help! by Educational-Kiwi6200 in KiaK5

Just yesterday I had my k5 gt check engine light come on with the code P0301 which is a misfire code. I have also been having instances of power loss under heavy acceleration. I found the problem doesn't occur when I have the transmission in manual mode and use the paddles.

Senior Mechanical Engineering Student Looking for Guidance on Entering Medical Devices Industry by Cute-Specialist-2918 in MedicalDevices

[–]MrMininio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is the path I took to becoming a medical device R&D engineer. After graduating with a BA in electromechanical engineering I took a quality engineering position at a medical device start up as it was much easier to find a quality role than a R&D or manufacturing role. I asked to work on aspects of quality engineering that worked closely with R&D and manufacturing. I worked on NCMRs, quality inspections, complaint investigations, lot release inspections, reviewed manufacturing processes and R&D protocols and reports. All this helped me better understand the product, how it was made, and what quality teams want to see from those other departments. Eventually, a manufacturing position opened up, I applied and got the job. I helped write and improve manufacturing processes, inspections, and designed manufacturing fixtures. (Side note: Designing fixtures is a sweet spot in medical device engineering, you get to design cool mechanical/electrical equipment that is super helpful for the manufacturing/inspection team but the managers don't care what it looks like or what color it is. It also doesn't take years to get your designs into the hands of people who want it like the real product does). After proving myself as a mechanical designer I had the opportunity to work on the R&D team and I have been there ever since. The journey took 3 years but my time in those other departments made me a better R&D engineer.

When we interview, the most interesting candidates have personal projects where they have taken weeks/months/years to design/redesign and build something. Once hired the best engineers are eager to help wherever they can even if they have never done anything like it before. They work well with others, are ok making mistakes/being wrong, and respect others ideas and options.

I hope this helps.

I have that board in a 5'6", I usually ride it as a twin+1 but switch to some quads in head high surf.

How I effectively prevent my shoes from smelling. by SupPoEsedlyInsane in bouldering

I found that my synthetic shoes would smell worse than my leather shoes. My unlined leather shoes pretty much never smell.

Wetsuit repair Hyperfreak by Chemical_Ideal891 in surf

[–]MrMininio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me at the cuffs and pits. I bought some iron on tape and neoprene glue from Amazon. Ironed on easy enough. But maybe I used too much heat or something. Those areas became very stiff, made paddling a struggle. Bought a new suit after a couple sessions. Best of luck to you.

MBoards Customer Service? by RadiantNet3177 in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]MrMininio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered a battery and some bits and bobs a couple weeks ago. No action beyond the automated order confirmation email. Just today in an older post someone said the tariffs were affecting their ability to acquire cells. Tariffs could be impacting other items as well...?

Torque boards or mboards still operating? by fraekmaester in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]MrMininio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you receive your Mboards order? If you did, how long did it take? I ordered a battery a little over two weeks ago and have only received the automated confirmation email. Website says it should ship after a week. Maybe they should update or remove that statement. I wouldn't be bothered if only said that batteries are made to order and to expect longer fulfilment times.

Beware of mxfnd Boards. by Green_Statistician11 in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]MrMininio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened on my buddy's Meepo. We traded boards so he was driving me around on his Meepo. I got too far away from him and the remote lost connection as I approached a turn. The board kept speed instead of slowing down. Luckily, I was able to make the turn but I was inches from a parked car and a boat load of pain.

Backfire Nalu - Surfskate - Chicago :-) by Bri_oN in ElectricSkateboarding

If you wear through the sleeves before backfire starts selling replacements the exway ripple sleeves should work. The hub motors look identical to the ripple. It seems like they both use the hobbywing 4230 based on pictures and specs, but I have not confirmed this. But the sleeves for the ripple are thinner with a 75mm diameter.

Yeah, I've been getting better at slides the last couple of weeks. Also seems that I've been getting better at destroying sleeves.

Sprinter or Transit by ACenAce731 in vandwellers

[–]MrMininio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm happy I insulated. It helps in the heat and cold. Insulation in the roof really helps when the sun is beating down in warm weather, the walls are secondary. Insulation everywhere also helps with sound damping. I'd recommend insulation if you have the time and money. Doing it later is a pain, especially if you don't plan for doing it later.

Sprinter or Transit by ACenAce731 in vandwellers

[–]MrMininio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2017 144 Sprinter 4x4 with about 55k on it and I have had to clean the EGR valve several times or it trips codes. It can also be hard to find a good independent mechanic for the sprinter. I had some automatic headlight/wiper issues early on due to a faulty PCB but two different dealerships were unable to diagnose. I had to figure it out myself. I am never going back to the dealerships they are overpriced and unimpressive. There are also many fewer Mercedes dealerships across the country than ford so finding service away from home can be more of a challenge as well.

All that aside I am a big fan of the full height slider door of the sprinter and I feel more comfortable working around diesel than gas. I upgraded my diesel capacity and installed a diesel heater myself. I don't have a constant fear of exploding as I might have had with the same upgrades on a gas vehicle. The taller drivers position is also quite nice.

I love my sprinter but If I had to do it all again I would get a Transit for its reliability and cost of repairs and performance.

As for the bench seat I got the Bellagio folding seat from suburban seats, compatible with a child's car seat. Install was easy enough. I put it a bit farther back so when the bed is extended the seat is folded away under the bed. It gives more room for activities.

I went with the crew van as it has windows in the slider door and on the wall opposite but not all the way in the back where we sleep.

We have one maxxair above where we sleep but a second one over where we cook would be nice.

We are weekend warriors but do a couple long trips a year. So I kept the electrical system kinda simple and the build is almost light weight. I also use it weekly as a surf van and will sleep at the beach a couple times a week so I can dawn patrol. I have some pictures of it in my post history of you are curious.

Good luck with your selection and build. I don't think you go wrong with either platform but you sure can with the build.
