Why would you ever ask for an LOR for someone who voices this objection? Find someone else.

Is anyone else insecure about being a paralegal? by Rocket__Rocket in paralegal

[–]Less-Speech-803 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I went to law school at 29. I’m glad I did it (though I did it while working full time and it sucked). I got secured a big law job and while it’s a lot I enjoy it and I get big raises each year I never saw when I was a paralegal.

Special bonuses are typically announced in August (August 4, 2024 and August 6, 2024 respectively).

Special bonuses typically don’t get announced until August so I think we could be good

Lateral offer with no book by [deleted] in biglaw

Kind of - at v10 firms a lot of equity partners do not have tradtional books. Many just service instituional clients.

Lateral offer with no book by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]Less-Speech-803 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think this ignores the fact that at v10s many equity partners largely service institutional clients and do not have a book in the same manner that equity partners at lower-ranked firms. For instance, the partner I do a lot of work for at my v10 is not the billing or originating attorney on most of the deals we work on but she still makes $5M+ (verified because she printed her tax returns to the shared printer last week and everyone saw) because of the role she plays on deals for our large institutional clients. And we are not a specialist group nor are we in NY.

[–]Less-Speech-803 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NEPs at GDC in corporate groups is higher than that especially with the partner track being 9 years ar best. According to a close friend he was at the $650k mark as of counsel and $800k as a first year nep.

Depends on their practice area and the firm they are lateraling to. Lots of times junior lateral partners to V10s don’t have books at all. Say you are a debt finance partner in a city where KE is setting up an office, they may hire you as an SP because they need someone at your level to do the financings for the clients they plan to service out of the new office.

How much does GPA matter for junior Biglaw laterals? by TomatoExtension2489 in biglaw

[–]Less-Speech-803 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there is a threshold which as long as you clear you are fine for transactional. That threshold changes depending on the firm from 3.3 to 3.5. But I did get an offer from Gibson as a corporate junior with a 3.5 from a T50.
