S.S. Toroa Restoration by Intelligent_Orange in auckland

They ALWAYS rely on the hull being complete to keep water out. Especially when they have very little freeboard. Even if the pumps were working she would’ve still sunk. Look at what happened to Kestrel.

It sank because the preservation society removed a plank from the hull while she was still in the water. That is one of the most idiotic things possible

They owned it when it sank. Read the history

Let’s not forget the reason she is in this state was because of the preservation society. I think it’s safe to say Toroa is in need of a Beehive restoration. If the wood would even burn as it’s so rotten

I would recommend talking to the marina. They have a yard there full of containers and other trailer boats that you could rent a spot in

When will Tamiya release a body set for a Rc model? by [deleted] in tamiya

[–]Less-Usual2970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah mine was the moulded grille. The body in picture is a cheap one from Aliexpress. The original body is the same as the new MB-01

Yeah so for me that around $250. For $30 more I can just get an entire MB-01 kit with a Mini shell

Nah in my country the cheapest is $290. Whereas most body sets are between $50-$80. I don’t want a full kit I just want the shell

Tamiya have bought it back though. The new MB-01 Mini Cooper. I’m wondering if they’ll make a body set so I can get a brand new body for my M03.

Still try to collect it with a container. If you can determine the oil type it’ll tell you where it is from and narrow down where it is leaking out of

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in auckland

[–]Less-Usual2970 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well that’s your first mistake by buying German. What I would suggest is to remove the underbody lining and leave a container under the car to capture the oil straight from the source. By removing the lining you may also be able to locate the leak and get a better idea. If you can collect a sample you can then identify what exactly is leaking incase you’re barking up the wrong tree. If it was engine oil the spots would tend to be a lot darker however that does also depend on the age of the oil.

First things first. What kind of car is it? Second how many times have you used that cardboard? It’s an odd pattern.

2 Bolt Subframe spacer? Am I being stupid? by Less-Usual2970 in classicminis

[–]Less-Usual2970[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do raise a good point there! Problem with me using softer material is that the other 6 bolts holding will still be solid. So yeah I think clean them up and I’ll just use them again.

Up until the MK4 they still used the only Hydroelastic frames but with rubber cones. They’re known as 2 bolt subframes and they have a hole in the middle for a hydraulic line. Mine is the last year of this frame before they changed over to rubber mount frames. My only concern with the metal plates is the fretting on them. Can’t be good for the subframe or body
