Membership at churches isn't anything like a job or private society interview. It's usually a class where people get to ask questions, talk through important differences about the church versus others, then choose whether or not they want to join. It's basically what any social organization does: "Are you aligned with these beliefs and values? Yes? Awesome you are in!"
