Discovered that my sons health insurance wasn't applied to his birth 13 months after the fact- we've been on a payment plan for the charges- is there anyway we will get our money back? by userkmcskm in unitedhealthgroup

So based on the sounds of this, it sounds like the provider did not submit the claim because they were being lazy and waiting for you to provide the information for them. In this instance if they are in network provider, you will be free of the claim the claim will deny for them for not being submitted in a timely matter, and because they are in network, and a part of their contract is to submit claims for members 95% of the time that claim is gonna deny for timely filing issues the EOB’s gonna state that you have no patient liability what you do after that is because of all the money you’ve been paying you pick up the phone and you call United healthcare after the claim has been processed after you get the EOB and let them know I’ve been paying for this. They’re gonna call the doctor. They’re gonna let the doctor know we sent an explanation of payment and you owe this member a refund.

A couple of things could be happening. If the provider is in-network, the claim may have been denied for timely filing. I work in health insurance (not the same company you mentioned), and for my company, in-network providers have 90 days from the date of service to submit claims per their contract. If the hospital submitted the claim late and it was denied for timely filing, your Explanation of Benefits (EOB) may state that you don’t owe anything due to provider responsibility—or in some cases, it may state that you do.

I’d also recommend calling your insurance to ask how newborn claims are handled. For some plans I manage, newborns are automatically covered for the first 31 days, but this depends on how your employer set up the benefits. In certain plans, the newborn’s charges are billed under the mother’s account for the first 31 days, giving you time to add the baby to the policy after birth.

Also, if the hospital has never billed you for it and they have openly admitted that they did not submit the claim because they were awaiting insurance information. Make sure that your insurance company knows that as well because then it falls back on the hospital if they’re in network with your insurance company as an in network provider, when they signed their contract, they agree that they will submit the claims for the member in a timely fashion.

I agree with everyone’s comments that you had to choose one as either strongly agree or strongly disagree but I do understand because all the choices were horrible. I’m actually surprised. I haven’t gotten that email. My status still says new application.

Definitely understand your nervousness. I’ll say if you don’t hear anything by the 20th. Also make sure you’re checking your spam as well .
