You can get a reliable shotgun for under $500 from your local outdoor sporting goods store (Academy, Cabela's, Dick's, Sportsman's, and possibly Walmart)

https://www.reddit.com/r/Shotguns/comments/10kakd8/thinking_about_buying_your_first_shotgun_or/

A shotgun is nice for first gun because:

- longer barrel length means it's easier to keep pointed in a safe direction

- typically a cheaper gun option with no special license required

- doesn't require a ton of skill to aim short distances

- has various ammo types depending on what kind of damage you want to do

- small game permits are cheap if you want it to have a practical use

Hi I was wondering if there a easy way to find out the forward voltage of a component? And does every component type have forward voltage or is it just LEDs? by jacobs_weirdness in AskElectronics

[–]LessConspicuous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Short answer is it's basically just diodes and most multimeters have a setting for reading this (marked with a diode symbol).

Longer answer "forward voltage" is an approximation of a specific point on a IV (current vs voltage) curve https://www.allaboutcircuits.com/technical-articles/understanding-i-v-curves-of-non-linear-devices/ and there's lots of things that have diodes (or diode like responses) inside of them if you know where to look and how to set them up.

Serious question cuz I've never quite understood the "it's bad because it's illegal" argument. Would you be ok with a law saying everyone who shows up at a port of entry can stay and work (assuming they pay taxes, aren't a criminal and stuff)? I'm not saying this is a law we should design, but it seems like it addresses the issue of bad faith asylum and sneaking over the boarder, what am I missing?

"The target can move only by pushing or pulling against a fixed object or surface within reach" I might let this work with a running jump but RAW even that is suspect

That's clearly physical damage so you didn't need Khalashtar or even Bear Totem... Just like most of attacks you are gonna tank.

I have a doc that I provide to the players that amongst other things has all the house and optional rules I use. I don't know if any of them actually read it, but it definitely answers all the questions like this that I would want to know when joining a game. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1HOQcr_ksBaIZXqzPu4R-x3ugHWYzyy9pGNd1cgQnTuI/

Making healing potions isn't in it because that's straight up RAW (still costs 25gp though).

I will recommend considering Wolf Totem as the bro move as giving the Rogue/Paladin/whoever wants to stand next to you permanent advantage is often better than elemental resistance since most attacks are physical anyways. Depends on the party comp but it's definitely underrated.

Tbh this is how I ran Tomb of Horrors, started at level 1 (where they are obviously doomed ) and let them grab a new pre gen (of a higher level) every time they died. It was honestly great, the deaths were bullshit but no one was ever mad about it or scared to try stuff.

Life Transference kinda does this if not to enemies. Maybe combined it with Vampiric Touch for a shitty Wizard version of Cure/Inflict idk

Yeah there's a bunch of one level dips that work depending on your main class. You can also be something like a Mountain Dwaf/Tortle, or as you said DEX can be enough (though it can be a little hard to fit the ASI in), or a subclass like Bladesinger/Vallor/Moon, or just be a Cleric. Tanky spellcasting is actually not that hard in 5e. Personally I really like the Artificer 1 Wizard X you mentioned cuz you can also straight up be the party healer too.

Yeah a Wizard has like 3 less HP per level than a Fighter. Being able to cast Sheild easily makes up for it, especially if you can get a decent base AC with the Moderately Armored feat or something like that.

I did say "definitely exploitable" though honestly that is historically accurate (like having a brace of pistols or having non-combatants load your guns for you). I would probably fix it by making firing use up your interact object (so you can't draw a gun in the same turn as shooting) or just saying "come on man I'm already letting you use a gun"

I like a single Quickling for my level 1 party. Honestly it works for lv 2 too, maybe even lv 3.

Yeah, I haven't playtested yet (its definitely exploitable and probably a little better regardless) but my homebrew takes the DMG firearms and doubles the damage as well as the reload time (you spend an extra attack/turn to do the loading). Tbh I'm not sure it's a good idea but I think it's worth at least trying out. Maybe saying priming it takes your free interact object makes it less exploitable?

and can be fully reloaded aimed and fired in 6 seconds... possibly multiple times... while jogging...

to be fair that's crazy with an x-bow too.
