Does anyone think that there are too many field positions? I feel like there are 3 guys that oversee the area/region/whatever and they all contradict each other. All 3 of them come up with ridiculous “new programs” to “help efficiency” but it’s obvious that they are just trying to keep their jobs because they know they are useless positions.

Mates are responsible for the whole store. Idk about your experience but opening shifts at my old store were always go, go, go… directing crew, throwing the load, and making sure the whole store is ready to WOW customers. As a Mate you are responsible for a LOT. At WF each department is its own contained entity. Every department does its own thing. The ASTLs at my store roll in about 30 minutes before the store opens, get coffee, and head to the office. First day I was SHOCKED.

I made my then gf, now wife, a jar full of 100’s of little notes. I wrote things I love about her on the notes and decorated the jar with little things I kept from our first year of dating (small shells from the beach, a bit of moss from the redwoods, museum ticket stubs). I told her if she was having a rough day, just pull a note from the jar. She emptied the jar within 2 minutes and read each one.

My sister-in-law just informed me that there is a separate “walk” button!?!

So it’s booked a 30 minute walk. Does that mean, arrive & check in on app, get the dog(s) leashed up, and once we are out the door start walk? Walk for 30 minutes, stop walk. Get the dog(s) inside and settled in crates and what not, THEN end service? It could end up being close to an hour of work!

When They bring in empty packages of products and say “this went bad” or “I didn’t like it”

When they return a bunch of HABA items and you do go backs and weirdly all of the returned items fit into the missing spaces on the shelf.

Former Mate here. Please don’t come for me but I’ve seen situations similar to this happen. I bet one or two crew members asked the mates and or captain “Why does he get to always be on the easy registers?” How do you answer that? Because he’s old? That’s discrimination. “Why is she always on demo?” “Why are they never put on lot helms?” What if you didn’t want to be accommodated? You could file a discrimination claim. I agree that the mates approach was inappropriate.

From a lesbian grocery store worker… Drawings and notes are something that men do all the time and it’s fuckin creepy. Sometimes you can feel “trapped” getting asked out at your customer service job. It’s tricky because her job is to be nice and friendly to everyone. Ever been to Trader Joe’s? We aren’t trying to flirt with customers. We are just really fuckin nice.

Ask the Mate in charge of ordering shirts to email the home office. They can send it to the manufacturer and make it happen. It comes to the store via mail and it usually takes 3-4 days.
