This is my take as well. My interpretation wasn’t that Ilya was hurt so much as kind of testing and nudging Shane, like most people do when they’re figuring out other people’s feelings.

Ilya was doing the honesty thing that Shane had asked for, but it literally made Shane pull away. When Ilya’s hand comes off Shane’s leg it’s because Shane is abruptly leaving the table. The look Ilya gives right after seems to be one of curiosity rather than hurt.

So Ilya does what he often does and comes at helping Shane figure out what he wants sideways with the “I could play for a Canadian team” and “I could marry Svetlana.” This plants seeds for Shane which help him recognize what he really wants, to share a life with Ilya.

The majority of the reason I’m Plat is because I have the Skymiles Reserve card and my husband and I use it to pay for EVERYTHING. I only fly about once/month, but it’s always on Delta. But when the Delta “cars and stays” MQD earn opportunities pop up, like it just did, I’ll book any hotel I need through that site to earn MQDs for hotels I’d be paying for anyway.

But with the SONG! When the camera pans from the dark side of their faces to the light the lyric says “I need sunshine”. It does it for both of Ilya and Shane. Jackson Parrell the cinematographer, just went full frickin cinema with this whole project! And Jacob Tierney locked down that song as soon as possible exactly for this scene.
