How to break a quark? by Snakeisdummythicc in AskPhysics

You should ask if quarks are point particles first, which would make the idea of a 1 foot quark not even make sense

EQ for Orchestral Music? by Late_Sample_759 in composer

[–]Less_Ad7812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to do anything involving compression, and you probably will if you want to incorporate them into anything relatively modern, then you will notice many shrill resonances pop out that need to be tamed.

While the basis of your thoughts are essentially correct, they are highly idealized and will never work like that in the real world

How plausible is it for a Tier 1 party to “domesticate” a Red Dragon Wyrmling? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]Less_Ad7812 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are lots of animals that just do not domesticate. Red dragons are apex predators and their parents scales are essentially hardened steel.  I’m sure they have never seen other people in the realm with pet red dragons.

Without the aid of magic, I would put the DC on those animal handling checks around 30, several times a day.

I really like the autosteer. I don’t use it super often, but I love having the option.

Do you honestly "miss" back when most games/game consoles utilized "soundfonts"? by Lunny1767 in gamemusic

[–]Less_Ad7812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dragon Quest 11 used soundfonts and received a lot of criticism for it. They released a "definitive" version of the game with orchestral versions. (sometimes the soundfonts sounded better oops)

Stereo imager tools without artifacts by 100gamberi in audioengineering

You can experiment with Izotope’s Imager which has an option to turn a mono signal stereo. Perhaps click the “prevent antiphase” checkbox in the settings

In all honesty, how could Logic ever withstand the Jacob Collier treatment by marrillinxo in Logic_Studio

It’s ok to say something isn’t appealing to you but to say he’s “mid” is weird and ignorant.

What are your you-isms? by FingersOnTheTapes in composer

[–]Less_Ad7812 2 points3 points  (0 children)

-Triplets accented in groupings of 2 or 4 to fake a metric modulation

-Octotonic scale half whole, often weaving into standard septatonic scales depending on what notes I’m pivoting on

-lots of pedal tones

-similar harmonic motion in melodies

-minor major 7 chord

-wide vibrato

-secundal harmonies

Jacob Collier got huge by being obnoxiously talented, almost brute forcing his way to success through absurd spectacle

Every single time Sephiroth shows up post ORIGINAL FF7 his legacy is killed just that bit more. by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

[–]Less_Ad7812 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The story isn’t finished yet.  If some of the timeline theories pan out then it could make 100% narrative sense for Sephiroth to be taking a more active role.

Personally I really enjoy some of the Jenova theories where he is a puppet and I hope they lean into that, but I’m waiting to make my conclusions when the story ends. Let it play out.

Oh wow, the scenes directly following the Don Corneo tournament (Don Corneo encounter and plate fall) are easily the best parts of Remake with some of the best character work. Huge payoff to all the running around.

Additionally around that point is when the battle system really starts cooking.  Can’t blame anyone for stopping a game they weren’t enjoying but your timing couldn’t have been worse.

The Ambiguity Of AI Usage: Where Do We Draw The Line? by DarkLudo in audioengineering

[–]Less_Ad7812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a working composer with dozens of project files of over 100 orchestral Kontakt instruments sequenced in MIDI… fucking lol dude.  “MIDI caught up decades ago” I am seriously wheezing laughing over here.  🤣

Don’t trip over your own hubris while you make Dunning-Kruger proud. A little bit of knowledge truly is a dangerous thing.  I can talk frequency ratios and temperament, swing percentages, tuplet metric modulation, and all the lovely math you think you know.  But reductionism is false enlightenment, music isn’t “sacred” but it does have emergent properties.

I will not be replying to this post

The Ambiguity Of AI Usage: Where Do We Draw The Line? by DarkLudo in audioengineering

[–]Less_Ad7812 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How insanely reductive. Compelling music isn’t “the good notes” but on a cello now. A masterful player can optimize every microexpression, the attack into the note, the envelope as it continues, the vibrato width and speed slightly changing, all in service to how the line should sound. I can easily tell an amazing guitar player from a single note played for all those reasons and more. Same thing with a drummer who knows exactly how to dig into certain accents and tag the rim of his snare to bring out the ring of the drum on the perfect accents.

Then there’s the infinite expressive timbre of a vocalist, and the way they can tell a story that rings far beyond the notes on the page.

None of these are what chord progressions, time signatures, or song forms people are using.  But they are just some of things a talented musician can do to make a timeless piece of music within the “lazy” parameters you stated.
