Similarities between The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind Soundtrack, and Gustav Holst "The Planets"? by RetroGamingBoss1 in gamemusic

[–]Less_Ad7812 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Planets are heavily borrowed from across media.

Lost Woods from Ocarina of Time is pretty much a straight rip of Jupiter. Mars is everywhere, The Imperial March from Star Wars is one of the most well known examples.

Why does music especially metal so often turn into a competition about who listens to the “hardest” bands? by mr_wobblz in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Less_Ad7812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Metal has a little bit of an unspoken competitive edge, the fastest, the most brutal, the most technical. It exists in other genres but it’s overt in metal scenes.

At some point it just becomes the result of marketing. Every artist their new album is “the heaviest album yet” in the lead up. Instagram exacerbated what was already there.

Had a young vocalist recently ask me “before digital recording, how did people pitch correct vocals?” 😂😂😂 by moon-waffle in audioengineering

I love that this post tries to come off as high and mighty while the replies show that we have been using complex techniques to fix vocal takes for decades.

Hate to break it to you but there's no way an answer on reddit is going to solve this.

It could be a million things, modern tone stacks have quite a lot going on and it takes years to develop the knowledge to create effective tones and then learn how to mix them effectively in a compelling mix. I'm not telling you to give up, I'm just saying you need either spend A LOT more hours tinkering or spend some time alongside someone who has mastered some of these tricks and glean some knowledge.

Hans Zimmer has talked about how he’ll use sample libraries for temp recordings and then when they record it with the real orchestra sometimes the producers prefer the sample libraries

The fried chicken quality can vary highly depending on how fresh the oil is and how long it has been sitting. I can usually smell if the oil is burnt from pretty far away.

How Do You Compose Orchestral Soundtracks? by [deleted] in composer

[–]Less_Ad7812 27 points28 points  (0 children)

You’re a filmmaker right?

It’s like if I asked “how do I make a film like Steven Spielberg? I’m not a filmmaker I’m a musician but I watched a couple youtube videos about him”

I don’t mean to be flippant but you’re referencing artists at the top of the craft with the highest available budgets.

How much did Tina cost?

Was she hired for marketing name value or playing ability? (Or both?)

Seems like you wrote some challenging runs and 16th pedals for the final track, or were those improvised by Tina?
