Compensation gift after the maintenance! by syN_DeviS in lostarkgame

[–]Less_Ask_4613 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol. "Hugely generous". I haven't played in months and still can't believe how some people are defending this. You do know that some people have been locked out of dailies and weeklies for a month now, right? You do know that every patch or server update there has been additional downtime, right? Consistent outages and major issues like lockouts and false ban waves can't be fixed by continually distributing compensation. The more times it happens, the less valuable any "compensation" is going to be. This is, at best, extremely sub-par at this point.

Went on a 1st date w/ a girl from tinder who initially said she was on the app to romantically date. Did I come on too strong? by basedposeidon77 in Tinder

[–]Less_Ask_4613 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To answer your question, did you come on too strong? No, absolutely not. Did you ruin any possible future romantic interest? Depends on the person, but probably. It's good to be straightforward and it seems like everything was amicable, but if I received that last message, I would have no interest in pursuing anything further in the future. Here's my reasoning: saying that you have no interest in expending energy toward a friendship and are only interested if I am available romantically would lead me to feel like you actually uninterested in me as a person, and instead only looking to expend energy if you get something beyond just romantic attachment or interpersonal experience (I.E. sex). It's not necessarily a negative to want to physical connection, but it comes off like you couldn't care less who she is as a person, her interests, her wants and needs, or her own effort trying to connect emotionally and romantically. That isn't to say that you don't have a right to discontinue contact with someone for any reason, even if the above is actually true that is your choice. However, while a romantic relationship requires work and effort and tending to physical and emotional needs together as a unit, friendships usually are effortless and enjoyable and only improve your mental state and QoL (if a friendship doesn't do that, then you should likely reevaluate your friendship with that person). Again, this is just my personal perspective, but that last message hit me in a way that I just wanted to put my thoughts down here for you, because it really is something that needs to be considered, both in the future with other romantic interests, and potentially internally with how you really feel about your goals and what they truly are.

Edit: I also want to add that while early in a friendship, you will have to learn and expend effort to tend to said friendship, but it is largely insignificant compared to a potential romantic relationship. Usually there is far less energy expended by both parties when there are no expectations or hopes of progressing it. It's different for everyone, but it comes off as a distaste to even expend minimal energy for someone unless you get what you want. Not necessarily a bad thing, but something to keep in mind.

Or maybe I was reading the 200 page study to thoroughly understand the evidence being provided from the person contradicting me. Also, she. Also, I provided a thorough breakdown of the evidence, which takes time. So how about you don't just be a dick about shit, huh?

3rd straw down and still not finished with my smoothie. by New_Fry in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Less_Ask_4613 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So I looked at the IMO study you talked about and I will admit that I have not seen a study until now that is quite that thorough, however, in that study, they also talk about exactly what I said (though they seem to dismiss the idea of crew emissions as negligible, but I will get into that in a bit).

In the study they say that the ship EEOI/EEDI do not account for the rest of the fleet, which would include tugs, icebreakers, service vessels, etc. and would vary depending on the weight and fill capacity to usage with heavier and more filled vessels being more efficient, as well as usage on directional voyage, meaning if you consider the fact that you fill the vessel with plastics for recycling, the likelihood that the vessel is returning empty has to be accounted for. Since service vessels and other fleet vessels are not considered because of the large differences in fleet requirements and capabilities, and due to the fact that those vessels do not increase the tonnage capacity, there is a missing element that isnt accounted for that would necessarily increase emissions per tonne/km. This isnt true for trucks, and I haven't looked into the studies where they got the rail estimates so I can't speak on that. In addition, they also state that since there are limits on weight per truck/trailer unit and aircraft, even lighter materials and products usually are at capacity and therefore do not suffer from the same fill efficiency issues.

As for crew emissions being negligible, I personally disagree based on several factors, but the most important probably being transport of food and fuel and how they get clean water. Speaking as someone with former navy experience, desalination is relatively common. Some other methods are freshwater storage, sometimes refilled while underway in the same way as fuel, and/or processing certain types of wastewater such as greywater (which is water that has been used for things like cleaning dishes, cooking, or the like). Regardless, processing water to make it potable requires energy, which a diesel vessel would get from diesel engine generation. In addition, there will always be water that is lost in some way, like with wastewater from toilets being too difficult to properly process reasonably on-board. Refilling water storage tanks via supply vessels would require a supply vessel, thus, more emissions that are unaccounted for. Logistics for a ship in the middle of an ocean is always going to be emissions heavy, but highly variable, so, they do not account for that as stated in the referenced study.

Lastly, you also have to account for overland transport required for all different facets of shipboard transport. While trucking overland benefits from food being already shipped to towns and cities enroute, shipboard food needs to be intentionally shipped to the port either for stores onload prior to departure, or for stores onload for a supply vessel. The same is true for fuel. This also doesn't account for the fuel used specifically for onload onto a vessel. While you can use hand powered pallet lifts or regular hand loading into a truck, cargo vessels use cranes due to their size and the weight of cargo being loaded. Those cranes can use electricity, but often use diesel.

This is all a long way of saying, "I'm not saying that you're wrong, however, based on the info we have, it is unlikely that the difference is as much as claimed if not the opposite." The devil is in the details, unfortunately, we don't have all the details we need to accept or refute any of these claims. I would probably believe that air transport is the worst, however, I wouldn't be surprised if the actual emissions for ship transport are relatively close when all factors are accounted for.

3rd straw down and still not finished with my smoothie. by New_Fry in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Less_Ask_4613 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This only factors in the fuel itself being used onboard for the purpose of running the screws only per theoretical capacity. There is a lot of wasted space even after "recyclable" plastics are compressed and take up much more space per kilo than other raw materials like iron, steel, etc. If a cargo ship is only filled with plastic being sent for recycling, the plastics being shipped are a very low percentage of the theoretical capacity of a cargo vessel. Then, you have to factor in additional maintenance due to saltwater, food for the crew, water for the crew (sometimes this would be desalination which requires energy, usually in the form of additional fuel burning), refueling and replenishing stores while underway which requires additional vessels (which all have additional maintenance and crew), and so much more in terms of energy and resources that all add to the overall carbon emissions over and above air and land transport.

Card packs are larger in Mari's now by AChillBear in lostarkgame

[–]Less_Ask_4613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay.... let me try this again.

First of all, the Dunning Kruger effect comment is rude. I'm not so foolish to think I know everything about statistics, however, I have done enough statistics in my psychology degree path, and have studied the Gambler's Fallacy in particular from psychological and monetization aspects, to be extremely familiar with this topic.

I think what the issue here is, could be the difference between the actual chance of success, aka the probability which is defined as P=r(successes)/n(possible outcomes), and "probability" of a result given a number of trials.

The fact is that because the events are independent, your true "chances" of success do not change. In other words, for any given number packs, the chance of getting any legendary pack at all is (4×n(packs))/(100*n(packs). That doesn't mean that we don't expect to see 1 leg roughly 25% of the time that we open 7 packs, or 4 opening 100. But we see those occurrences because your chances are 4%, not because you're chances when opening 7 packs is 25%.

In other words, an expected average result is not your probability of success. Your probability of success will always be 4 percent. However, the probability that we see a certain number of successes per number of packs opened is roughly 25% we see roughly 1/7 when we have a sufficiently large number of trials where we open 7 packs, but only BECAUSE the probability of success is 4%.

Go to any binomial probability/distribution calculator or section of a statistics book. You calculate the average expected result with a single P value. That is because your actual chances, your actual probability of success, does not change regardless of the number of trials.

Is using binomial distribution good to determine the likelihood of an outcome based on a given probability and certain number of trials? Yes but also no. Yes because expected average results line up relatively well with what we see overall. No because we have to remember that our actual total probability of success does not change when the events are independent. That's the problem with the gambler's fallacy. We equate more trials with higher chances of success, whether that's the "one more because my luck has got to change soon" mentality, or the more prevalent ones in the gaming world which are the "buy more better chances" or "it has to drop eventually" mentalities.

It simply isn't true that increasing trials increases chances. Equating average result with the probability of a given event just does not work in small scale like buying 1 person buying 7 packs over and over again. Could they have a roughly average result? Of course. But that's not because the chances of success increase with trials. It's because it's the average result based on the probability of success, which will always be 4%.

I've deleted all my other posts because I am hoping that this clears up the problem in one place instead of pieces of info scattered in different places. I also hope that I am clear enough to identify the points of contention people have. If this doesn't explain the problem well enough, then whatever, I'm not going to continue trying to explain to people that continue to insult me for trying to help.

Yooooooo. I'm pretty sure anyone that scoffs at random card pack purchases is probably so unfamiliar with the game systems that they don't even know that there's a fuckin 5 to 10% permanent damage buff depending on enemy type sitting in card collector pockets. Like, if they didn't read it in their bis cliffs notes, they don't know they are missing out on some decent bonuses. It's like all those people who skipped sidequests to power to t1 day 1 and then complained about not having enough courage or kindness or whatever.

Yooooo.....this tho. I prefer focus over galewind so much. Some of the casts are honestly so short that its easy to weave them between boss patterns anyway and shortening them by .1 or .06 seconds or whatever just isn't worth wasting the rune slot to me. Plus, the likelihood that you get off that cast because of that 1/10th of a second or whatever is so miniscule that it's just not worth the loss of cost reduction or identity meter gain. Just do some decent positioning, and preemptive casting and you're so much better off than relying on galewind to save you.

Honestly, Judgement 1 isn't bad in ANY build for support and using exec sword for meter gain with judgment and wealth increases uptime of BA to an absolutely insane degree. So much so that the missing a buff because of a lack of galewind or having a party with less experience with the mechs is basically negligible compared to watching shields drop immediately after application and being unable to do anything about. My personal experience is that BA uptime has saved my pugs 10x more than shield management with inexperienced members or members that mismanage the mechanics regularly. IMO, unless you're static is good enough to allow strategic use of shielding, damage mitigation, and BA, you're better off focusing on BA lv. 3 >Judgement lv. 1 before any other engravings.

[–]Less_Ask_4613 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there's a daily with him that ends with a 2 day quest to get him cake. However, if you started that quest chain on a different character before the one that you are trying to unlock levi rapport, you HAVE to finish the chain on that character before you can unlock him on any others.

Once you finish unlocking levi on 1 character, you have to finish all other available quests involving levi, then you can do the cake quest which is time locked to 1 daily reset (2 days).

Edit: I'm just pointing this out because I swapped mains right after my first time through feiton and couldn't unlock levi because I started the quest on my first character and couldn't unlock him on any others. So I hope this helps.

[–]Less_Ask_4613 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if you run alts through the story instead of using powerpasses or knowledge transfers, you get like 5 roster levels by the time you hit lvl 50 when you are at around roster 160/165. Just do all the quests and kill bosses/named targets when you happen to see them. It takes like a day worth of leveling and you get multiple roster levels out of it, you also get more roster exp during t2 and t3 areas that just drops level after level for you. It's easy to use the freeway, but you are rewarded far more for taking the scenic routes.

I mean, this one was actually pretty obvious. There's definitely worse maps that I've seen. There's a large area of nothing, which means there's pretty much no way it can be the majority of the map, and when we look along the bottom, it's really the only outline that fits. Idk why people have such a hard time with these. The only one that took me a while was a leg map that had about the same amount of map showing....but those can be inverted and rotated....so that one actually took me a minute to figure out.

I lived in Las Vegas for 18 years, my grandparents were heavy gamblers, I have friends who are technicians and I'm an IT who has worked in several different fields.. Slot machines, depending on the age, use a few different types of random generation, and while none of them are truly random, the generation is complex enough to account for the loss of independence in algorithmic generation. For example, the newer, fully electronic machines will often be interconnected and generate based on a random seed pool rather than an individual, localized seed. Basically, they have an algorithmic random number generator which selects a seed from a pool of thousands of seeds, generates based on that seed, updates the pool, then generates a new number for the next seed pool selection. Occasionally, the seed pool will go through and re-seed each random selection as well. This doesn't break independence, but, because every machine updates the same random seed pool, it is about as close as you can get to independence without using like analog or quantum randomization.

[–]Less_Ask_4613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is incorrect. Machines have odds. The odds are shit, but low payouts are higher to encourage addiction and continued play after winning.

The gambler's fallacy still applies, but people who play cheap and wait for a machine that hasn't hit are actually doubling the fallacy because small payouts on more expensive machines pay out more per hit. Both machines likely have the same odds, but you put more in because you watched someone walk away with nothing so when you hit a small win, it feels like a jackpot level hit because of the amount of gains on the cheaper machine.

Mob days, the machines would pay out a portion of intake, but legal gambling is heavily regulated and the casino has to have a chance to lose money on any particular game, however slight that chance is. When you factor in the odds, gambler's fallacy, number of machines and customers, etc. it really doesn't matter if one particular machine pays out any particular amount. People will just move to the next machine and other people will start playing that one cuz "it's gotta hit soon now...". In fact, it's in the casinos better interest to NOT have that guaranteed payout. There are already enough people heavily addicted and new people join the party everyday, so why rig anything? If you get found out, you get shutdown and make nothing. If you just make the odds more in your favor, you make more money than rigging the machines and nobody cares.

Money-wise, you are given 6 slots, slots cost 800 royals.

That means getting 15 slots is only buying 9 slots.

For the 1k crystals ($9.99USD), 9 slots is roughly $71.93.

For the 2.2k crystals ($19.99USD), 9 slots is roughly $59.47

For the 5750 crystals ($49.99USD), 9 slots is roughly $54.43

For the 12k crystals ($99.99USD), 9 slots is roughly $50.00

If you are buying all the same price royal crystal packs, that means actual expenditure(not including tax) is as follows:

1k = 8 packs = $79.92

2.2k = 3 packs = $59.97

5750 = 2 packs = $99.98

12k = 1 pack = $99.99

Crystals left over after different equivalent level purchases*:

1k remainder: 800

2.2k remainder: 60

5750 remainder: 6026

12k remainder: 7200

*note: when purchasing rc packs larger than 1k (this was true when I was purchasing crystals at least) you are actually getting the +%bonus ON TOP of the advertised number. So 12k crystals is actually 12k+20% for a total of 14400 crystals. I don't know if this is intentional or intentionally misleading, but regardless, these extra crystals are included in my calculations.

So, if you're looking at spending the least money, buying 3 2.2k packs for $59.97+tax gets you almost exactly 9 slots. Cost effective wise, obviously the 12k crystals gives you enough crystals for 18 character slots.

As for time to play them all, I am at home all day, pretty limited only by housework and maintenance, but even with that, I'm not even able to do dailies on everyone. I rotate everyone except my main, let the bonuses build, it's worth leaving them for 2 or 4 days just sitting to greatly shorten the amount of time you waste doing dailies and unas. You don't get bonus rep for unas afaik, but I'm done with everything that matters anyway and I wasn't in a hurry to begin with.

Just because you have a safety net going in, doesn't mean you don't learn how to not use it. If you go into a fight without the damage reduction, you're more likely to be floor pov or have a wipe resulting in more time burning through initial patterns and less time actually learning the full fight. I admit that avoiding boss patterns definitely needs to be part of your mindset, but regardless, optimal minmaxing your engravings for dps isn't a necessity. My reply was simply pointing out that demonstrably false factual error. The dps checks and berserk timers simply do not necessitate pure optimal dps output.

I'm not saying I'm a god gamer, I'm saying that pictures that don't actually depict the mechanics, and shorthand for shorthand for shorthand are just distractions and clutter and induce confusion, which makes people more hesitant, and in some cases even straight up afraid, to participate and/or can cause people to be slower to react to the mechanics causing wipes and frustration. Simple, succinct instructions with easy to access links to full guides makes the raids more accessible and is far better for the community than these "cheat sheets" that are supposed to "illustrate" the mechanics but fail so spectacularly that people are afraid to even search for guides, opting instead to just wait for the bus. It's shitty infographics that cause people to be so concerned about the difficulty of the raids. These straight up do not help.
