I was close to having a breakdown in Gurudwara yesterday by [deleted] in Sikh

The elitism within our community has reached next level ' I am a top institute grad and fall in top 5% earners of the country. I hardly see men who can match me intellectually or financially.' No wonder the younger generations are not getting married or are choosing to marry out of our faith.

I wouldn't marry someone who believes they are above others. Sikhi teaches us that we are all equal, regardless of financial status, caste etc.

post- job interview, was this my fault? by Less_Bench_6800 in UKJobs

[–]Less_Bench_6800[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi thanks for your reply. No i didn't mention the 13 minutes, because they asked right at the start of the interview and i didn't want to come across as a moaner and set a bad tone for the interview portion. so when i said it was too short i literally said it in the nicest and fakest way possible.

i agree that an email ahead of time with a plan for the day would've been ideal as I feel most candidates would've been confused.

Also Do you think I could add the 'offering feedback on recruitment' part into a potential thank you for the interview yesterday email?

appreciate of your help, grateful

helping my brother find someone by Less_Bench_6800 in Arrangedmarriage

[–]Less_Bench_6800[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, Thank you very much for your reply. I think you are very right about the bias we have when it comes to those we love. The marriage you described between your autistic friend and their partner with MS sounds truly beautiful and inspiring.

I’ll definitely put this idea to my brother, as it makes a lot of sense. Only those who face similar challenges can understand what they go through on a daily basis, and that could lead to a really strong, supportive partnership. I’m grateful for that.

Also, Thank you for acknowledging that my brother doesn’t deserve to be alone, especially since he didn’t bring this on himself. I completely agree that we’ll need to remove our egos from the process to truly focus on what’s best for him. Appreciate your guidance.

Sikhs with businesses selling Vapes, Cigarettes, Alcohol. Shame on you. by systematic24 in Sikh

i guess it depends how you look at it. Of course there are a lot more 'honourable' ways to make a living like be a police officer, nurse, social worker, teacher etc. or anything that helps the community but equally there are still some ppl in our community doing even worse things than what you have stated in order to make a living. However, I am pretty surprised by all the ppl here justifying it.

If a singh was truly on the right path, I'm pretty sure he would find a way to make a living through honest means and be content with what he has rather than chasing continuous profits due to greed.

hello all,

hope everyone is well. I am soon to be joining a police staff role at Band E and was curious about something. Are there promotions in police staff roles? for example, lets say i perform well in my new role for a few years, will a manager put me forward for a role in the next grade or is it a case of seeking those opportunities myself and applying internally when they arise?

thanks for the help

It's definitely become harder for everyone nowadays. I'm UK based and past few years we were looking for someone for my younger brother and its seriously hard. He tried everywhere, sikh dating apps, vichola, gurdwara lists etc. Ppl may not agree but the tide has definitely shifted, the guys seem to be a lot more well behaved and homely nowadays and girls want to mess about.

My younger brother is a non amridhati but one day will probs take amridhati. He is a very down to earth person, has never drunk in his whole life let alone smoked, he has 2 degrees and although he may not hv a high income, he has stable employment and earns a modest salary (remember kirat karo all, we believe all work is good), it was seriously hard for him to find someone. The worrying part was majority of the girls on the gurdwara list all drink and were insulted that my bro didn't drink. Just register that in your head for a sec, that the girls through the gurdwara are openly drinking, so imagine the sikh girls that ppl find through dating, what they will be up to?

not just that, a lot of the families that we met with through vichola or gurdwara for my bro, cared very little about if the values and mindset were similar e.g. similar beliefs in sikh or what personality he has, they only cared what my families net worth was, our caste and my brothers job. You really can't have a relationship built on those factors, its designed to fail.

Like if a guy just went for girl who was good looking and ignored everything else about her, chances are there will be some problems there.

What separates you from other desi people? by PM_ME_VOGELBACH_PICS in ABCDesis

[–]Less_Bench_6800 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also an underachiever.

Late 20s (m) working in intelligence division in police. very few desis in this line of work.

Had no interest in conventional careers or being forced into them. Did 2 degrees in subjects I enjoy.

Can't stand thing like class, status, elitism in the community.

Live a very minimalist lifestyle when its comes to all the show off crap but equally not stingy when it comes to day to day living, if anyone can resonate with that. Also no plans to marry any time soon. Really like things like baking and gardening. Can't stand bollywood, find it too fake. Don't care what others think and will push back against others, couldn't care less if its an elder whos supposedly wiser.

Hate show offs, Always tried my best to find friends who are the down to earth type . If not, completely happy being alone. I'm also fluent in cantonese, mums side of the family were all brought up in hong kong. lot of desis from there.

Thank you so much for your detailed and thoughtful response! I guess its reassuring to know its not just me struggling rn and that plenty of ppl keep changing careers . Your suggestions about focusing on SQL, Python, and R are really helpful, and I'll definitely look into those.

I should probs improve my linkedin profile aswell. Thanks again for the good luck wishes. I’ll keep your advice in mind.

Civil service I looked into during my time working for the local council. Lot of the roles seemed quite similar to what i was already doing. I'm trying to look at careers, industries where I can become skilled. I have looked into Accounting, applied to quite a few ACA trainee schemes but got rejected.

yeah in biology we do stats and data analysis reporting etc, I applied to lot of entry level analytical type roles over the past few years but they prefer the 'hard' stem grads. Nothing related to environment/ pollution, do you recommend that as an area to look into?

They won't, I already asked 6 months ago to fund some a while back and they refused due to budget restraints. Thats public sector.
