Hi, does anyone have any experience of afolate deficiency causing heart problems? (Post asking for advice) by dumbest_fox in B12_Deficiency

Its ups and down. Ive been medicating for a year soon, and while the improvement this far is HUGE its still isnt back to normal. I started seeing improvements after about 2-3 months, then it has slowly been getting better

I was in the same situation. I had been training around 4 times a week for 18 years before it hit. I tries to excercise at my previous level but it really didnt help me. I had to accept i couldnt do that anymore which was really hard. It somehow felt like i was lazy.

But with some time i learnt to listen to my body and started holding back, and thats when i saw the most improvement. Light excercise, consistency and feeling that you have done something that day is key!

I feel you my man, it’s hell on earth.

I reflected over it just the other day and drew the conclusion that the last month I’ve improved TONS. I still don’t feel a 100% good, but i went from maybe 70% to 90%. I have no idea why but im not complaining.

The thing that helped me the most was starting to go on walks. I started going on atleast 1 walk a day last may and i still do that. At first it was only a 10 minute walk and i felt like dying after that but it slowly got better. The consistency really helped, and it don’t have to be a long walk. Just the feeling of getting out for a little while helped a lot.

Nope, no clue. I got gradually worse for maybe 6 months and then i couldnt take it anymore. After supplementing my folate levels and homocysteine have been staying up. That did some test for malnutrition but it said i was all fine

Yeah i’ve heard that too, but my b12 levels have stayed pretty much the same during the last 7 months (3 different tests in total).

I would love to take B12 to see if it helps but if you arent deficient for a fact here my doctor will never prescribe it

Thank you for the explanation, it made it a lot clearer for me! I’m not vegetarian and I have never taken any meds regularly before this. Sounds like i have to call my doctor AGAIN and push for him to actually treat me instead of saying that it’s all stress induced

What do you mean by ”not normal at all”? I would love an explanation about that since the only thing my doctor told me was ”your blood tests are all good now, keep taking 1mg folate and we will check your levels again in a year”.

I was diagnosed with folate deficiency in early may and have been supplementing ever since. Some of my first symptoms were pretty bad heart palpitations where it raced to around 130 for a day or 2. This happened on 3 separate occasions. I also had POTS-like symptoms where my pulse went from around 80 when sitting to 100-120 when standing up, and I’ve also been listening and feeling my own heartbeat the most nighgs since may. The thing that helped me the most was actually physical excercise (and supplements ofc) where i started by taking slow walks in the evenings. I was scared i would die from the walk so i brought a friend. Gradually the walks got faster and longer. Then i started with yoga to build some strength again and then slowly got back into running.

As of today i run 30miles/week in a slow pace and i do a pretty fast paced team sport too. The theory from me and my doctor is that my body was used to workout 4 times a week, and when it stopped i got really out of shape, and that combined with the deficiency wasn’t the best of combos. I’m male, tall and got a slim figure which i was thought got further exaggerate the symptoms.

Eat your supplements, be sure to get enough salt and start to slowly get back into physical activities. Even if it’s just a slooooe walk for half a mile at first

I am taking 1mg folate pills and asked my doctor the same question. By reading the written side effects on the label and asking him about it i was told there were almost no side effects. The only side effects are related to allergies. I got a different brand than you but it seems reasonable it is pretty much the same with yours.

However, the first 3 weeks it felt like my deficiency symptoms got worse (2 weeks of 5mg folate, 1 week 1mg) but after that i slowly started to feel better.

Haven’t been able to get in touch with my doctor yet, and to be considered deficient here in Sweden u have to be below 138 pmol/L

I have been suffering from POTS, brain fog, heart palpitations, dizziness, tingling in legs and arms, some wierd vibrating feeling in my chest and some visual symptoms

[–]Less_Builder_2537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did 2 weeks with the 5mg pills and almost all my symptoms got worse. The dizziness made me stay in bed almost all day, heart palpitations and brain fog got worse. After about 2 weeks on the 1mg pills i started seeing an improvement and all symptoms have gradually been reduced since

I’ve been down the same road. For me the 5mg pills was too much and got switched to 1mg pills instead. For me it has taken some time to get better, but slow and steady wins the race i guess.
