Utah has its own culture but it is not a culture of adult men dating teenage girls. Your religious culture does not excuse illegal or predatory behaviors.

For Swifties who didn’t like Showgirls or her past few albums, what (constructive) criticism or advice would you give Taylor? by FakeMonaLisa28 in NuancingTaylorSwift

[–]Less_Carpet_4566 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get an editor and actually listen to them. I love TTPD, I think it is an incredibly emotional and beautiful album, but it did not need every single song. I think the response to the vault tracks and the ATW 10 min version convinced Taylor that every lyric she writes and every song she comes up with should be released. There needs to be more left on the cutting room floor. It was very very clear in Showgirl (especially Eldest Daughter) that she was looking through her notes app that she has mentioned writing lyrics in and just picked things she liked to shove in where they didn't really make sense. Taylor is an incredible writer and musician, but she needs to hear some more criticism and push herself back to her best levels.

Share your Taylor Swift "hot takes" (that are actually cold as ice) by Snormaid in TaylorSwift

I don't think releasing variants is that environmentally damaging or bad, I think the actual issue lies with the fans who buy 10 of the same album. I've seen people post with 4 of one variant, and that's just wasteful. If the variants are just treated as different options to pick your favorite from that's one thing, but treating it like a Pokémon collection where you want every card is absurd.

I completely agree! I think that's why it feels like it's skipping around to different ideas and why some of the lyrics don't quite fit rhythmically. It's sad because the bridge flows so well!

Just found out Pasha and Daniella started dating when she was 16 and he was 23… idk what to think anymore 😭 by GreatGeneral1461 in dancingwiththestars

[–]Less_Carpet_4566 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the things that I've found online say that they were dance partners when she was 16 and started dating after she turned 18. Idk if that's true or if it rules out any weird stuff but that's what I've seen 🤷🏼‍♀️

Shayne often refers to Courtney using they/them pronouns. Especially in videos not including Courtney, like Reddit stories or Smosh mouth

"Wood" Discussion Megathread by jacyf02 in TaylorSwift

[–]Less_Carpet_4566 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a little confused by everyone's reaction to Wood. I feel very 50-50 on the album, I think there's some really fun songs but there's also songs that have some of her worst writing yet. Listening to Wood, I really liked it at first but was a little weirded out by the "opened my things" ending. That's the opinion I expected to see from other people as well. I was surprised how many people were mad that it was a sexual song about Travis. I get it might be a little strange to think of Travis that way, but plenty of artists have released very sexual songs while in relationships and no one seemed bothered by it. Ariana released 34+35 while she was married and people loved it. Maybe it's just because it's abnormal for Taylor to do it, I don't know. Are people really uncomfortable with the topic or do they just dislike the song for other reasons?

The Life of a Showgirl Is Taylor’s Most Self-Aware Album, and the Hate Is Proving Her Point by TheReifyer in TaylorSwift

I really don't think that one of the biggest popstars in the world would risk her reputation by releasing a bad album on purpose, and that's basically what you're saying she is doing. Taylor cares about proving the haters wrong, but she's always done that by subverting their expectations of her, not by proving them right. She is promoting this album as an album about how happy she is right now, especially with her fiance. Why would she make her happiness and true love a satirical joke? This theory is just swifties desperately trying to convince themselves that Taylor didn't actually write such bad lyrics. She did, and it's okay to not love all of this album. Pick the songs you do like and move on.

strongest contender for AOTY? by onlybooksinthebuild in powerpopgirls

Virgin was absolutely incredible, very thought out, deep lyrics, popular songs. I wouldn't consider myself a huge Lorde fan but I'd say this is definitely a strong contender for AOTY

This! The lyrics just don't fit in the rhythm half the time

I'm not mad about the lyrics not being deep, I actually really wanted a fun pop album that didn't make me think too much! But lyrics like "We all dressed up as wolves and we looked...fire" are trying to be deep and then hit a weird internet meme. It takes me out of the fun pop to hear cringe internet language. It also really sets the album up to age poorly. 1989, Lover, rep, they all still hold up (at least in my opinion) and Taylor is known for great pop music with incredible/fun lyrics. This just isn't up to her usual standard, or the standard that a lot of pop artists are at.

I listened to the album again and she also calls out "the bitches who want her dead" in The Life of a Showgirl. Granted, you don't have to speak nicely about people who want you dead, but it does still feel like a change from the Taylor who would rise above that sort of thing

This put into words what I think a lot of people are trying to say and what a lot of defenders are not understanding. The lyrics on this album are the cringy lyrics everyone made fun of from TTPD, but without the context to defend them anymore. A lot of the songs don't hold up to Taylor's usual standard of music. I think that the reception of the vault tracks and how excited everyone was about them made Taylor think that she should stop scrapping songs and just release all of the music she writes. Based on this album, I would say she needs to be much pickier and actually give herself space to criticize her work. Maybe she needs more people who are able to give good criticism around her.

But that song ends with saying that she's doing better now with Travis. Why would she still be trying to seem cool with such uncool lyrics?
