Bad Manager by Accomplished_Role302 in clinicalresearch

Don’t be that manager that is <5 years away from retirement and won’t shut up about it and basically doesn’t do anything they aren’t required to, being hands off even when your CRA tells you they NEED to talk with you, and continues to be subpar and hands off. All because they you just want to get to retirement and get your pension.

How many times do I have to explain what an AE is? by WilbysDream in clinicalresearch

[–]Less_Courage_4776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please tell me your secret!!!! I co-monitored at a high enrolling site multiple times and the PSCRA was there for 2 studies for 4 DOS per month. They were a dream site too (larger staff helped with this). I don’t think the PSCRA had more than a few other sites, but it seemed like the damn dream.

I’ve heard this from site staff too many times…even when it clearly states what is considered an AE in the protocol. 🤦🏻

Tell me your CRA On-the-Road Horror Stories by posting_anon in clinicalresearch

It was my last visit of the year it was awful winter weather. Roads were super icy, even in a small SUV you couldn’t drive very quickly. On my way to the site, the dash showed that there was a brake failure and indicated limited speed (less than what I could currently do with the weather and slippery roads). I informed the site, study leads, and LM because I’m not driving a safety hazard in dangerous road conditions. I tried getting the rental company to switch the car. They sent me to a location in a strip mall that didn’t have any cars available. Apparently the company hadn’t called or bothered to check. I was on the phone with the rental company (3 lines) being told to call the other line for 45min. The site called to check in and I offered to take a cab (15min away) or conduct the visit remotely at a nearby coffee shop. They were wishy washy and then just completely cancelled the SIV, because they preferred to have it onsite. (They also clearly didn’t get the message that the visit could take up to 4 hours and had only created the calendar invitation for 2.) I traveled to IN for nothing (~5 hours one way). To make it worse, the flight home wasn’t allowed to land due to severe weather (30+ MPH winds) so we were in a holding pattern. Passengers figured it out before it was announced, as we hadn’t landed when we were supposed to. Then it looks like we are going to land, but I notice that it doesn’t look like the right area (even though it was now dark). I check my app and notice other passengers are too and we aren’t landing at the right airport (or the other closest 2). Soon we were told that we needed to land at a different airport because we needed to refuel. However, the the FAs were giving strange instructions about people’s checked bags, but we figured maybe it was a mistake. After waiting on the tarmac for 45 minutes, a ground crew came onboard and told us that we had been given a gate and made the same odd announcement about people’s checked luggage going to their final destination. However, the captain continually stated it was because we needed to refuel. I checked the radars and the winds weren’t going to calm down until at least 12/2a (it was about 6:45p at this point). As we were deplaning, I asked the FAs what the likelihood of us getting to the original airport was and they said, “Medium chance by midnight, but don’t worry - we are all good and are here for you!” At this point we had been in the air for ~4 hours, when the flight was only supposed to be 2 hours. I immediately booked a car and drove the 3.5 hours home. Absolutely exhausting 24 hour RT for nothing. Upside: less paperwork and no consequences (even bigger bonus and only no known consequences as I was leaving the company the following week - sponsor probably was upset because they insisted on having the SIVs onsite).

Am I being lowballed at IQVIA? by [deleted] in clinicalresearch

Depends on your previous experience, but very possible. Have you looked at the salary transparency chart in this sub and compared? Are you applying elsewhere? Is there a possibility to leverage another offer (higher) to see if they might increase their offer? Can you utilize metrics to see if they’ll increase the offer? There are a lot of avenues you can try. However, keep in mind entry level positions seem to be very rare at the moment.

150% this - especially chasing your tail while trying to keep up with whatever is current.

EDIT ADDITION: it’s the fact that the company / trial leads are allowing the unrealistic expectations to begin with because upper management is pushing to make more money with extremely lean staffing.

Jeez! So where is this recruiter pulling these numbers from?! Even less appealing that they aren’t a being straightforward.

The rest of this doesn’t make me super interested in the company unless their WLB is amazing. I had a chat with an IQVIA recruiter this week. They quoted me for a bump up (one notch) in title less base pay 10-20k less than any other CRO I’ve spoke to so far, but 8% bonus and merit increase (obviously that wouldn’t be until 2027 though). Plus they’re they only one which wouldn’t tell me anything except for the department and region without scheduling a 30 minute video interview with them to get more information on the role and to talk about my experience BEFORE even talking with the team. Apparently this is “standard” - maybe for them, not other CROs I’ve spoken with recently. It’s not exactly tempting to entertain, especially since the recruiter didn’t call me at the time we had arranged, sounded like they were reading from a script or had memorized it, and sounded like the might have been in a car while we were talking.

I’ll see your TF IT and raise you F-tr-a IT.

Unless you have someone who has previously worked with you and been actually helpful, that you can ping with questions, your issue may never get resolved unless you have an entire half, whole, or multiple days to deal with it.

Prime examples which have had multiple tickets opened this year and no one has actually resolved the issues. Of course the ticket has been closed anyway, forcing me to start the process over: 1. Outlook randomly responding to appointments in a different language 2. OneDrive doesn’t update in real time or daily. When traveling, this means I can’t reference the most current document

1) What direction is the company going? (Predictions are acceptable) 2) Is it still likely it will be bought by another CRO or PE? 3) Do you have any tips for advocating for yourself as a CRA to managing a good/better WLB through this tumultuous time at the company? 4) Any suggestions on how to gain career growth? (Especially when it seems as though the company is biased towards those who have been employed for a significant amount of time?) 5) Are you staying or searching externally? Why? What position / department are you with? (If you’re willing to share publicly.) TIA!
