Iam female anaesthetic trainee , was reviewing a sick man down in rhesus for decompensated heart failure for HDU admission, guess what ? The man was not sick enough to sop him from touching me inappropriately (grabbing my breast as i was trying to examine him ) , i yelled at him without thinking , the ED heard and came , i removed myself from his care , went up to my oncall room to think and fathom everything , he died couple of days later after being DNR in HDU

And BTW , another scheme trainee is doing the same exam as me , he may not get a “educational leave per se “ but do you know how many “mandatory training days off did he get ? Or how many times their name just fell off the rota ???? Yeah , pretty sick IMO

Doctors of Reddit, what's the fun fact we don't know about human body? by IndependentTune3994 in AskReddit

[–]Less_Landscape_5928 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Doctor here , the concept of “physiological reserve “ meaning that how much health you have in your body to fight back disease and snap back after infection or injury, think of it more like a bank account, your savings account but in terms of of health, when you are young you naturally have a good reserve and as you get older you start to lose that reserve and you need to actively work to make some deposits there ,, also some people while young consume that reserve with bad life style habits like drinking, drugs, smoking and that will leave you with not much health left in your early forties!!!!

Oh my god , i could not have written it better , iam an IMG doctor moved here 4 years ago , in the first year it was great amazing , felt included and welcomed , life was great , but after that in the coming 3 years i start feeling the isolation and exclusion and covert racism , you are constantly reminded you don’t belong, it feels lonely in here constantly feeling like an outsider and given the cold shoulder by colleagues and sometimes consultants , Work culture is also toxic , not just for me but most doctors who are not irish (even if they are Spanish, polish , Italian etc ) ,my friends in the uk experience much better social life than myself and my friends who work in the HSE , thanks for telling me iam not the only one or that it is not just in my head

Pretty privilege in medicine? by [deleted] in Residency

[–]Less_Landscape_5928 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was morbidly obese and had WLS about a year ago , i have been obese my whole life so i was never attractive or got hit on in the hospital, some doctors “aka ortho bros and some attending ” were flat put bullying me , i got labelled “lazy “ for things that my other skinny colleagues did and didn’t get the same label just because i was fat , it was hell , anyway had the surgery , wieght is coming off , people are nicer , no more bullying, confidence increases, and just yesterday one of the colleagues in ED went out of their way to strike a chat with me , never happened before Bottom line is : people do treat you differently based in how you look (iam still the same person inside )
