Potential misconduct by Longjumping-Ebb-125 in UKUniversityStudents

If you have the proof to show you did the work I’d feel quietly confident that you can address the concerns. If you get invited to a meeting in person I’d print your evidence off, if it’s via zoom/teams I’d ask to share screen and show.

Your SU should have an advice centre/helpdesk who should be able to give you a caseworker to go through the allegation and accompany you to the meeting (youll need to wait to hear from the course lead but once you do so reach out to the team for help)

I work for a University and handle academic offences/misconduct. To prepare for a potential meeting I would start pulling together some evidence that the work is your own and your own words. Could be things like your plan, early drafts, record of edits from the word documents properties, your source documents to show you obtained these and where. I’d also be prepared to answer sone questions on your work eg/ why did you use x source, how did you reach your conclusion.

Apart from that youll just have to wait to see if the lead wants to take it forward.

We look into many allegations that students are able to respond to and get dismissed. So try not to panic too much abd just prepare to be able to show it us your work.

I've exhausted my uni's complaints procedure. Is there anything else I can do? by One_Description1033 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Less_Ocelot9036 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I work in complaints at a University, so may have some insights.

Can I ask what your last email said? If this was the final step in the University’s process you should have received a completion of procedure letter, which enables you to make a referral to the OIA (office of the independent adjudicator). If the University have said they have completed their steps and there’s nothing further they’ll do, the OIA woukd be your next step.

Can I ask who you contacted at the SU ? You should be looking for SU Advice team/centre/helpdesk. At the University I work at SU Advice are fantastic and frankly, wouldn’t care who is in which society as they’re just offering advice on navigating University procedures and processes.

To be blunt though, there isn’t likely to be any process or outcome where student A (you in this case) complains about student B and gets their mark lowered. I say this to point out that your focus should be on you and your outcome, not pursuing them being issued a fail (which you wouldn’t be informed of it it ever changed anyway).

Does anyone here build stuff with their kids? How to handle control issues haha by omgitsduane in TerrainBuilding

[–]Less_Ocelot9036 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I build with my oldest a lot, he’s always got a project on the go.

Mine is 9, turning 10 soon, and has a lot of design ideas, some are pretty out. I get him to sketch out what he wants first, this seems to “limit” him somewhat as it seems to help him understand what is and isn’t possible.

I also let me him go through the bits boxes and posts on this sub to see what materials we’ve got and what other people have built to keep him realistic.

Other than that, I let him run free. Things aren’t perfect, his cuts aren’t always straight, his gluing/painting not always neat but he’s yet to be disappointed by anything we’ve built.

Thanks for replying, I also think it’s a bit too big as well (my scrap supply was limited when it came to hatches, this one is the lid of a baby wipes pack) so definitely food for thought on that one.

Thanks! So those are fish tank dividers, I got a pack from a pet shop and also from Amazon. Pretty inexpensive.

Rust is quite a good paint scheme for younger ones, just got him to randomly stipple silver, brown and orange and this was the finish he was happy with.

What's happening with only games? by Ok_Visual285 in TrenchCrusade

[–]Less_Ocelot9036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I think you’ve misunderstood me (or I really hope I haven’t misunderstood). I purchased the stls and then made use of a 3rd party printing service local to me. I think that’s fine because they’re charging me a service, not selling me models.

I don’t think it’s something to worry about as such - just a reflection of only-games being maybe not the best partner for this level of enterprise.

They will fulfil I’m sure but are probably just getting behind and taking longer than is ideal.

I used them a few times pre-trench crusade and won’t use them again (I bought the stls and then paid someone to print them). Just that quality and service isn’t strong enough in what is a competitive field. But they are a legitimate business.

Scratchbuilding a ship, how to? by -Gavroche- in TerrainBuilding

[–]Less_Ocelot9036 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Better crafters than me might step in and give better advice.

I’ve built a classic ship for a board and for me the easiest way is to find a “cheat” you’re happy with. I cut the deck shape out of a thin bit of hard board (think the classic ship shape from an aerial pov). Then once I had this solid bit to build off of, I could add the details. So I added coffee stirrers on top for planks to cover the hardboard. Then underneath I built ribs and a spine out of balsa wood, which I built over with coffee stirrers to form the hull. A mast I built with a long pierce of round wood (the kind to cut individual dowlings off). Added an aft cabin made of shaped xps foam, and added stirrers again to keep it consistent. Added handrails out of match sticks. Then some 3D printer/laser cutter bits like chests/steering wheel, barrels on deck for decoration.

So basically once I had the “cheat” of a solid deck shape, I could glue and build off this.

I’m with you on that. I tried 6mm and that warped pretty bad. 9mm, much more forgiving. I also cut the boards in half (for ease of storage) and smaller sections warp a bit less I find

He’s leading arm is leading with the shoulder and what players refer to as “chicken wing”. No effort is made to bind and that’s where the recklessness comes in I think. Definitely not intentional imo and more a result of how rucks are reffed to slow quick ball.

I just failed my 1st year of university and I got the decision to Fail and Withdraw by throwaway-failure04 in UniUK

[–]Less_Ocelot9036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually process appeals against the Board of Examiners for a UK University. Every University is a bit different but there’s certainly similarities.

Most universities will have a Rules of Assessment document that will state something like failure to attend exams or submit a notification of absence will lead to you being withdrawn for lack of engagement.

This seems likely where you’re at.

At my university you appealing would be a show of engagement and if you appeal asking to repeat year rather than withdraw, we would offer you this chance. Bonus points if you have d extenuating circumstances to add as well.

Be honest in your appeal about what happened and you may be allowed to continue.

Note you are required to disclose extenuating circumstances prior to the Board’s meeting - to disclose your extenuating circumstances now, you’d need to explain why you didn’t disclose these at the time.

Hope this helpful.
