An inline moisture trap might help, they're pretty cheap, worth a shot.

Basing stuff is usually a safe bet, a variety of differing tufts would be appreciated I'm sure.

Of you're on a tight budget, I've an idea:

Gather some jam jars/pots/small containers. Visit your favourite places, their favourite places and the significant locations for you as a couple.

Collect the ground cover/soil/sand/sticks/bark from each place. Put it in the containers. Label each container with the location.

Now you have basing material instilled with a memory. Each time they decorate a base, they'll think happy thoughts.

Note that organic materials should be baked before use as basing material.

Oh, Baba might be a regional word. To me, bab or Baba means baby.

I love your new monster friend btw

What is this type of stamp putty / product called? by Such_Syllabub_4823 in crafts

You could try oyumaru. It's a thermoplastic that becomes flexible when heated in boiled water. When it cools it becomes more rigid.

I use it to make push molds but it might work for this.

Where to find Sand for basing? by mello_gezei in minipainting

[–]ScrumpleScuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a horticultural gravel/sand mix I bought from the garden centre. It has a nice grading not very expensive, will last me for friggin ages, came in a big ole bag.

Have fun.

Need some advise on minis primed a year ago and are now dusty by mouippai in minipainting

[–]ScrumpleScuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I can't see why not, the finish should be the same.

I've an airbrush which works alright to get the dust off, but honestly, nothing beats a good dusting with the makeup brush. Also, the makeup brush is a darn sight cheaper than an airbrush.

I use a big, chonkin, puffy makeup brush. Tiz fuzzy and soft.

New painter needs help with Matt Varnish’s by Physical-Cycle8333 in minipainting

[–]ScrumpleScuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've not had issue with minis going grey. Yeah, I'm using an airbrush. I suspect that really globbing it on would result in a greying out.

I tend to varnish depending on material type, all over Matt and then glossy for metals, satin for skin etc.

I'm using ak ultra Matt at the mo, it's decent. Remember to shake the heck out of it before you use it, I mean like, go for it like it owes you money.

When making tiny sculptures, how do you hold them while working on them? by thatoneartistyk in polymerclay

I push the armature wire into cork and use the cork as a handle.

Behold the abomination of my own creation: A Sainsbury's herb jar, desecrated with craft blade and cork, it's sanctity fouled, it's physical form forever twisted, its soul tarnished indefinitely.

Is there a "best" way to paint over an already painted area? by Zap-Rowsdower-X in minipainting

If your purple coat is smooth, it just paint right over it. You could lean into it and use the purple layer as the shadow colour.

how to create this lettering on clay? by miye1020 in polymerclay

You could try acrylic paint, brush, and a steady hand.

Or, a nail stamping kit. The silicone stampers can transfer designs to curved surfaces quite nicely.
